Robert Novak diagnosed with brain tumor

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 28, 2008 01:46 PM

The Chicago Tribune reports that veteran columnist, author, and TV commentator Robert Novak has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. He’s suspending his legendary journalistic work for the time being, but, he says, “God willing,” he’ll be back writing soon. Godspeed, Mr. Novak.

Novak has had a huge influence on my career. During a college conservative journalists’ confab, he urged us to seek metro newspaper jobs, pay our dues, and try to stay out of Washington for as long as possible. I took the advice to heart and left D.C. after a year as an intern at NBC to take my first newspaper job at the L.A. Daily News and then the Seattle Times. “Pundits” and “strategists” come and go, but Novak’s longevity is a tribute to–and result of–his newspaperman sensibilities and investigative chops. The MSM has always shortchanged the journalistic accomplishments of those on the Right. See, for example, how the AP sums up Novak’s career–mentioning only his role in the Valerie Plame case and the traffic accident he was involved in last week. Typical.

There will, of course, be gloating and death wishes on the nutroots side of the Internet aisle. Ignore it all.

Instead, I recommend Novak’s fascinating memoir of his 50 years of reporting in Washington. Get the story straight from the source. That’s Novak’s way.

I have been surprised that nobody has been making an association between Bob Novak’s recent vehicular mishap and that of CNN’s Jack Cafferty back in 2003.

Then I did a google search for Jack Cafferty’s 2003 guilty plea to a lesser charge that I remember reading on the ‘Smoking Gun’ years ago, but it looks like most all previous stories have been removed, except for an old post on D.U.! Pretty ironic.

    Prayers for the Novak family.

He is a public figure not above criticism, and nobody knew about his brain tumor when she wrote the column.

She was correct about Novak. To drive around in a black corvette dangerously and then to hit a pedestrian and speed off is atrocious behavior. She correctly criticized his lack of support for Israel and his support of Hamas. Again, she brought this up BEFORE the brain tumor news.

So what she wrote was not in bad taste, unlike liberals gleefully pouncing on the fact that Novak has a brain tumor.

Please show some tolerance. She is the best blogger out there, along with Michelle Malkin for defending our country and Israel and our Western values from the Islamic onslaught and the cultural pollution of liberals. She does the work that the MSM and our government refuse to do. If you disagree with her, fine. But at least she defends our democracy, something that socialists, communists, Hamas, and Al Qaeda all want to overthrow.

Nice try! As if one is a big supporter of Israel, then one is an Israeli. That is like saying if a foreigner is a big supporter of America, then that foreigner is an American.

I live in Northern Virginia and was born in Georgia. I’m a true American, and my religion is Catholic, which is why I so strongly oppose Islam and support the Jewish religion and Israel. We orthodox Catholics have learned from history and know the true nature of Islam, unlike liberals.

I pointed out that Henry Hyde was a vehement supporter of Sami Al-Arian and other jihadists and that he and his staff harassed me endlessly for writing a column about the campaign contributions Hyde took from the Al-Arians and how he constantly held hearings to help them out.

Not sure how this is a “vicious attack.” It was and remains fact, facts–his support of jihadists and Islamic terrorists–that needed to be mentioned, but weren’t by any of the slobbering revisionists who wrote about Hyde like he was some sort of saint. He was not.

When Jimmy Carter dies, I’m sure you all will remember him fondly with nothin’ but praise and goodness, right? You’ll never mention his horrid presidency, his absurd lust for Palestinian terrorism, etc. Because that would be a “vicious attack,” right?

As for Bob Novak, what I wrote about him was before I knew he had a brain tumor. But it does not change the fact that he has spent his life defending jihadists and engaging in Jew- and Israel-hatred and saying he’s a supporter of HAMAS. If you have a problem with me disagreeing, today, with Ed @ Hot Air that this is “incisive commentary,” then that is your problem. Whether or not someone is sick or dead, does not change their record or make it that I must take down past posts about them.

Again, when Jimmy Carter dies, I will see what kind wonderful things you have to say about him. I won’t be joining you in that endeavor, in which you, yourself, also won’t be engaging. Also, I look forward to your kind, love-filled remembrances of Bill and Hillary Clinton and Al Gore. Won’t be joining you in those either.
