Sifting through the usual sack of hate mail, I thought I’d share a real winner with you for your amusement–and mine:
Hello Ms. Malkin,
My name is Stephanie and I m a 20 year old college student from Atlanta, Georgia. After watching you on Fox News Channel, I decided to read your writings. I would like to express my complete and total disdain for you. You are so racist. Yes,I said it. You hate yourself. You are Asian my dear not white. The way you talk about other minorities is disgusting. The condescending tone a lot of your writings have show what kind of person you are. It saddens me to see someone with your talent and charisma use it for such disgusting things. I’m sure you’re satisfied with yourself but I just wanted to let you know that you shouldn’t be. You can do so much better for yourself. Read up on your history and figure out who you are because it is very apparent that you have no clue. The biggest waste of time screw-job for the writers of these emails would be that you never actually read them.
Publishing these emails feeds the ego of the writer. Not only does it confirm that you actually read the email, but the email affected you enough to share with others. Now you’re publishing the email on one of the most popular conservative blogs for the world to see. As an accomplished businesswoman, media pundit, and best selling author, it amuses me you’d take the time to indulge an, angry 20 year old college student. Call me a shallow man but when I look at a picture of Michelle all I see is WOW! She is one beautiful woman. Mr. Malkin is indeed a very blessed man.
I began reading Michelle’s syndicated column years ago and was impressed by her unapologetic patriotism and her ability to express herself in a very methodical intelligent manner. But, most of all I was struck by her compassion. She speaks and writes so clearly because she cares for people. She cares for America.

Her thesis: “I would like to express my complete and total disdain for you.” Ok, so we should expect to see some reasons to support this claim.
1. “You are so racist.” This is an ad hominem fallacy. Now, if she said, “This comment or that was racist in nature because you judge solely upon race and no other criteria,” then yes, she may have a point. Otherwise, to call a person “racist” is an ad hominem.
2. “You are Asian my dear not white.” And? Again, a fallacy of relevance. On a side note, to judge someone by race alone is a racist judgment, yes?
3. “The way you talk about other minorities is disgusting.” How so? Examples?
4. “The condescending tone a lot of your writings have show what kind of person you are.” Example(s)?
5. “I will readily admit that you are very intelligent, however your ignorance overshadows anything that i could have learned from you.” So, you willingly commit the fault of “throwing the baby out with the bathwater?” This is not a sign of wisdom. For example, children may not know much, but they do teach adults a thing or two from time to time, right?
Bottom line: Plugging together a series of emotional conclusive statements, absent of objective facts, does not further one’s cause.
I am always left wondering why people think that conservatives are the racist ones. Liberals are easily less color blind, and for all the complaints about stereotyping, responses like Stephanie’s show who really assign traits based on skin tone.
But I guess we cannot begrudge her too much. She cannot recognize condescension as she stares it in the eyes in the mirror every morning.
