Looking Down the Ticket
What’s a disgruntled conservative blogger to do this election?
A: open up the five hundredth “Lesser of Two Evils” should-I-actually-vote-for-that-squish-McCain debate, or
B: Look around for some actual conservatives to back?
You might not find any at the top of the ticket, but the real conservatives are out there, running for Congress all around the country. I was thinking about writing a post summarizing some of the hotter races, where some support from bloggers and local activists and small donors could make a big difference.
But then some guys went and started up a whole blog dedicated to exactly that subject: Down The Ticket.
Which is pretty cool. They’re covering some of the races I’m interested in: Harris in Maryland, McClintock in California, Barletta in Pennsylvania, and several more.
I’d point out that they’re missing Florida’s Allen West, who I would really like to see in Congress.
I’d also recommend they follow Keith Fimian in Northern Virginia–not so much that he’s a rock-solid conservative (he might be, I just can’t tell yet) as that his Democratic opponent is Gerry Connolly, who as Fairfax County supervisor maintained a sanctuary policy for illegal aliens and also backed the county’s relationship with a Saudi-funded radical Islamic school.
So even if Fimian turns out to be a RINO who makes McCain look Reaganesque, I don’t think there’s any reason to let this district go to Connolly. And even if it is trending a little Whole-Foods soccer-mom nanny-state around NoVa, Connolly’s spent a lot to win his primary and he’s made those very bad decisions on illegals and madrassas that Fimian’s campaign–or his surrogates–ought to be able to exploit.
Anyway, conservatives. They’re out there, and they need some lovin’. I’m not big on telling you what to do, but if you were to ask my advice, I’d say to pick out a name from Downtheticket’s list–or maybe one of my additions–and send them twenty bucks along with a short note explaining why you’re doing this and which issues are important to you.*
And when your paycheck comes in next month, do it again. Repeat until November.
We’ve got plenty of time to decide what to do about McCain, and frankly I’m already tired of him. But we can never have enough principled conservatives in Congress. Even if we don’t reclaim a majority, we’ll need stalwarts in there who will do their best to delay and disable the new shamnesty bill that will be headed our way pretty soon–under either new president.
*If you do this, please mention where you got the idea–because if these candidates aren’t reading this site, they should at least know that their donors are.
Also, this doesn’t constitute an “endorsement” of any of those candidates, for whatever that’s worth. I’m just saying it’s a pretty good list. If you know of anybody who ought to be added to it, let us know in the comments.

Spend your money and time on Congressional Conservatives. Not the RNC, but individual Conservatives.
Thanks S/D
This is a good idea. We need all the help we can get to see Conservatives are elected.
L
I continually tell the RNC that I will not send money to them to give to RINO’s. I only want to give money to those running that I know will support my views. They get mad and sometimes hang up, but within two days, they are calling again. My answer is always NO.
It makes enormous sense for conservatives to shift their attention this year from the presidential contest to the congressional races, where there are real opportunities if only Republicans (there have been sightings, not extinct yet!) would reach out and grab them.
We’ll certainly have more influence over our congress people then we will over whichever libroid occupies the White House the next four years. Though maybe that is not saying much.
So plug away, send cash, do whatever you can, just don’t get your hopes up too high.
Republican Keith Fimian will get my support along with Barletta in Pennsylvania. Still, i won’t forget to help Mac, especially if he picks Mitt.
I would like to see the Shamnesty people come to Iowa and take a look at the meat packing business. We have “illegal aliens” shipped here to do slave labor. Some are as young as 15. They are in a strange country and forced to put in slave hours. Not even the sugar plantations treated its workers this inhumanely.
Time for conservatives to jump on this issue. They need to turn AGAINST the Chamber of Commerce and the American Medical Association and start pitching for Human Rights and Individual Rights. The Greens are in the process of destroying all individual rights in the name of carbon credits. If McCain can get the message, then I would consider voting for him, but instead he pandors to the coyotes and drug dealers.
He needs to come out and petition Bush to release Ramos and Capian TODAY.
Lets preserve this country as it was founded.
This is something I have thought was missing for a long time. I want conservatives but don’t have time to really follow each candidate and election. People who do this for a living do have the time and knowledge, and there are a few conservatives that I trust, like MM.
Perhaps it’s time for new party
not in independat paarty
not the green party
not the libertarian party
how about THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY
rhinos need not apply
Michelle, this is an EXCELLENT idea! I would love to hear more from you (and other bloggers) on how we can “take back our country”… and then put together a dynamic action plan for accomplishing it!
The best manager I worked for had a saying… “Don’t just come to me with your problems… bring your solutions also!“
I know onr thing for sure if I would have known sooner that no-one was running against Richardson in Wrong Beach Ca. I would have got an apartment there and gone door to door to make sure I won her spot down ticket. As it stands right now I can’t but wish someone there would have stepped up to do so. Instead it seems they are all ill informed we get another Cynthia McKinney type loon from Ca. going to DC.
Anyone know of any loopholes to get on that race from an out of town resident?
No Texas races? hmm.. Let me help the Houston area:
John Faulk vs. Queen Sheila Jackson Lee in Dist 18
Pete Olson vs. ACLU lawyer Nick Lampson in Dist 22
Not that I’m “endorsing” either..
NM’s republican senator, Domenici, is retiring. We have two choices, Tom Udall, a Udall and a weasel and a lawyer, but I’m being redundant. Or is it threedundant? Running against him is Steve Pearce, a real conservative and guy who has actually worked for a living. Unfortunately, there are only two conservative areas in NM and the rest are folks with their hands out. I fear we are about to end up with Jeff Bingaman and a Udall as our senators.
It’s enough to give you the shivers.
This is the only way to get the COUNTRY moving CONSERVATIVE again… Pick your candidate very carefully, then support them with all your worth… Maybe the HOUSE and SENATE will start on the path to CONSERVATIVE VALUES… The POTUS is a lost cause, so go back to basics…
maine yankee has a great idea about creating a conservative party. The party can then get conservatives from a district that is up for a vote for a person to go to D.C. if for some reason there is not a person in that district then the conservative party can relocate a person willing to live in that district for a short time until after the election where either that person can then go to D.C. or move out of the district. Heck, the democrats do it. I don’t know of too many politicians who really live in their district where they are elected. Folks, this can happen. It might just take a few years. All that has to be done is, ‘just do it’.
You act as though there is a right and a wrong position on every issue that somehow you know better than anyone else. Even among very conservative people there are disagreements. For example, true libertarians oppose restrictions on which people (except criminals) can live in America. They also may oppose the invasion of Iraq (like Ron Paul).
Some very religious Christians who are very conservative socially worry about global warming and want restrictions on carbon use.
Having no doubts is not the sign of a thoughtful person.
At the end of the day, there’s not a stinking dime’s worth of difference between the parties. Sure, it can be argued that one party favors taxing and spending more than the other or life is held more sacred, but the bigger issues aren’t addressed in elections. The corruption, moral, ethical and legal are rife in our system. Simply looking at party or ticket misses the mark. Love him or hate him, Ron Paul has my respect for addressing the issues on a straight-forward constitutional basis.
Dick Zimmer (R) vs. Frank Lautenberg (D) for Senate in NJ. Unseating the incumbent Lautenberg would be huge. He’s been a rotten no good liberal for years.
From wikipedia:
Zimmer served three terms in the House, winning reelection in 1992 and 1994. As a Congressman, Zimmer is best known[citation needed] for writing Megan’s Law (U.S. Public Law 104-145), which requires notification when a convicted sex offender moves into a residential area. It was named after Megan Kanka, a New Jersey resident who was raped and murdered by convicted sex offender Jesse Timmendequas. He also introduced “no-frills” prison legislation, requiring the elimination of luxurious prison conditions.[6]
As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, he sought the elimination of wasteful spending and undue taxation. He was ranked the most fiscally conservative member of the United States Congress three times by the National Taxpayers Union and was designated a Taxpayer Hero by Citizens Against Government Waste every year he was in office.[3]
MM does know right and wrong. Libtards just know what feels right or wrong.
I meant seedubya with that last comment… habit
Nifty little site, there. Thanks for rallying the troops to a good cause!
JT,
I caught wind of Zimmer not too long ago and have been keeping my eye on his campaign… he has the potential to get rid of Lautenberg and he has my vote.
I’m dropping downticket a note on Zimmer. The only disagreement I have with Zimmer is drilling off the Jersey Shore. Zimmer doesn’t want too.
But not having a clue is the sign of an idiot.
Thanks for the link See-Dub, and if anyone has a suggestion for Vintage on what conservative candidate should be featured, be sure to let him know at Down the Ticket, or at our place.
Mr. P, there were Congresspeople from New Jersey and California poking around Postville last weekend.
Of course, the only people they talked to were the ones whining about how mean and unfair it was that people were incarcerated for identity fraud. *shrug* They don’t want to know about how illegal aliens are used and abused with their blessing and they don’t care about their health and well-being–they only care about looking like they care.
Already on it, have been for a while now, and couldn’t agree with you more about the fine selection of conservative candidates running this election cycle.
Uh-huh. Thanks for the rubric on what comprises a thoughtful person; good to know!
Agree, but Mc Cain could make some noise. He could demand a townhall meeting in Postville. FoxNews can make a fuss. Time for conservatives to quit letting the liberal zealots control the news.
So you are saying that there is a legitimate debate on Global Warming? Are you saying carbon taxes should not be shoved down our throats? What Liberarians are for OPEN borders? Chamber of Commerce, yep, Libertarians – I don’t think so.
JT and 30 – I’m with ya on Lautenberg. He never returned my emails. Menendez is also on my hit list. He called me a biggot because I wanted him to vote for english. He said I just didn’t understand.
It’s not that hard. It’s McCain or Obama.*
* No disrespect intended to the fringe whack jobs voting for Nader, Barr, McKinney, ad liliputiam.
Rambler,
Menendez is part of the dirty Union and Essex county machine. He’s going to be a little harder to unseat. He’s got the hispanic and immigrant vote on lock.
Lautenberg stole his Senate seat back after Torricelli got in all that trouble. Forrester(R) had Torricelli beat due to the scandal. Then the Dems pulled a switcheroo and dug Lautenberg out of mothballs. Many NJ residents thought Lautenberg was the INCUMBENT.
If we can take out Lautenberg. Then we can focus Menendez. If we are unfortunate enough to get Obama, it will be easier to take out Menendez.
Chuck Baldwin would seem to appeal to some of the commenters here.
I was thinking yesterday, “it would be great if MM and HA spent more time on the House and Senate races and less on the POTUS one, maybe I should suggest it”. And my wish is granted!
Here’s a good site – Iraq Vets for Congress.
Wow! Thanks for the press, guys!
I was actually considering Fimian. As a former Fairfax resident, I know what a mess the House would be if ol’ Gerry got in.
I’ll look over all the suggestions today and hopefully get to posting tonight!
Or maybe “C” since it’s the lesser of three evils
– “look down” to 2010 with Human Events:
“Pay It Forward”
JT,
I have a friend in FL who gives me info regarding Menendez’s fund raising in the Cuba community there. His hispanic voters can’t seem to afford any contributions and I don’t like FL having input in NJ.
What a great topic to post on. Check out the Washington state governor’s race—an exciting re-match between democrat incumbent status-quo big government liberal Christine Gregoire, and totally awesome republican Dino Rossi (who has national potential, imo). Rossi came within a whisker of beating the liberal, and is neck and neck once again this time around. He is the kind of amazing individual the readers here could love. Contribute, follow, pray. It’s gonna be good. Go, Dino!
I forgot about Rossi! Thanks!
Ginny Brown-Waite, is a solid conservative Republican, running for re-election to Congress. She’s my representative.
Thanks! I’ll look into it, I’m trying to stick to candidates who are challengers, though.
Anyone catch Sarah Steelman on Glenn Beck tonight? If you didn’t, she is running for Governor of Missouri. Very impressive!! Check out her campaign site.
Read this from Glenn Beck’s web site (third paragraph).
flenser,
check out Vets for Freedom.
