"You can get anything you want at Alices' Restaurant..."

Arlo Guthrie

From Wiki:
<em>"On that Thanksgiving, November 25, 1965, the 18-year-old Guthrie and his friend Richard Robbins, 19, were arrested by Officer William "Obie" Obanhein for illegally dumping some of Alice's garbage after discovering that the dump was closed for the holiday. Two days later they pleaded guilty in court before a blind judge, James E. Hannon; the song describes to ironic effect the arresting officer's frustration at the judge being unable to see the "27 8-by-10 color glossy pictures with the circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was to be used as evidence against us". In the end, Guthrie and Robbins were fined $50 and told to pick up their garbage."</em>

Pretty late with the response, but I just wanted to advise that some of us should stop breathing for the sake of the planet. If they do so, I'll be able to think a little better.

That's a joke, people.

Re: comment #42 ---

The irony in your statement is that global warming causes earthquakes, or so I've read. Google it. Better yet, don't bother, because we all know it's true. It's just, ehh...common...sense...isn't it?

I missed this entry somehow.. wow, there is something seriously wrong with Newsome, and I'm quite serious in wondering if the pressure has got to him to the extent that his judgment has become impaired to the extant of mental retardation. These rules and regs and the severely skewed priorities they infer are not the acts of a sane man.

Sonny, why do you think I have been voting Republican most of my life? The idea is to keep the government the heck out of my life as much as possible. The Democrats intend to run it in detail. The Republican evangelicals merely want to run my bedroom. (Over my cold dead body.)

Now with Obama we have a real danger of a theocracy taking over the US as he falters with the defense of the country thing. I am hoping that the Republicans do not give in to the Evangelicals invading my person and home with their attempts at micromanaging my life. If they do - I give up. Until then I hold back the mild revulsion and vote for McCain come November.

(I've had an evangelical Christian mess up my life once already. That is more than enough.)

<blockquote>Garbage collectors would inspect San Francisco residents’ trash to make sure pizza crusts aren’t mixed in with chip bags or wine bottles under a proposal by Mayor Gavin Newsom.</blockquote>

Does Juan McAmnesty approve of this measure? IMHO, not very likely. :oP

easy way out of this..

leave a couple of cold pops sitting on top of the garbage pails when the guys come by to pick it all up..

doubt they would care if about pizza crust and wine bottles then..

if not sure pop would work, up the ante with a cold beer or two..

at our house in Michigan, I would compost for my garden only because it was cheap and easy.. coffee grounds, apple cores, banana peels.. egg shells.

but the fines on recycling?

if anything, that would force more people to throw things away en mass..

<blockquote>And if residents or businesses don’t separate the coffee grounds from the newspapers, they would face fines of up to $1,000 and eventually could have their garbage service stopped. </blockquote>
Aaah! Don't you just love the smell of Liberal Fascism in the morning!

But surely they have an exemption for poor illegal aliens, because a $1,000 fine for coffee grinds would be..., well, grinding the face of the poor.

If they stop garbage service, how does that save the earth or teach kids to recycle? Before long, the entire city of San Francisco would become a garbage heap. Wait, how long has this rule been in affect?

Ho.

Lee.

Crap.

<strike>Sodom and Gomorrah have</strike> <strike>The USSR</strike> San Francisco just gets astonishingly more ridiculous by the day. As a US city, they can be as free as they want; but freedom from Dumpster Diving Big Brother (DDBB) isn't a right, it's a privilege, and San Franciscans no longer have the privelege. I don't need to point out who would make a good DDBB employee, do I? (See comment #25 for a hint.)
