GOP revival: Twittering the House revolt; Hoekstra: “Our voices can’t be shut down”
Scroll for updates…
My main post on the House GOP revolt is here and I’ll keep updating it. But I’m breaking out a separate post on the Republicans’ very savvy use of Twitter to circumvent the Democrat blackout and overcome the absence of C-SPAN cameras– and their outreach to conservative blogs to spread the word.
This is the change we’ve been waiting for, Beltway GOP.
Finally!
As I mentioned earlier today, John Culberson is Twittering the speeches on the floor.
So is Pete Hoekstra, who reports that GOP Rep. Mike Rogers spoke in his shorts. Heh. More:
Mike Rogers (Mi). Speaking in shorts. Heard what we were doing. Came back. He wanted to be a part of it. 19 minutes ago from TwitterBerry
Standing applause for last speaker. People on the floor cheering wildly. They love it. They’re into it. 25 minutes ago from TwitterBerry
For other updates or tweets check johnculberson. 28 minutes ago from TwitterBerry
A lot of policeman assembling off of floor. What does that mean? House is full. 29 minutes ago from TwitterBerry
Thanks for tweeting with me. Thanks for new technology. Real shame Speaker turned off lights, mikes, C span. Our voices can’t be shut down. 38 minutes ago from TwitterBerry
Let’s have more leadership like this, and less Leftist mimickry and capitulation to the global warming alarmists.
If you lead…

Hey, C-SPAN: Turn the cameras back on!
Update: Speaking of C-SPAN, they’ve linked up Rep. Culberson’s Twitter page on their website, as well as his Qik video.

Awesome…
Finally, some backbone. Now President Bush needs to get back to the basics and stand for something and reconvene Congress.
How long before Pelosi, et al, admonishes Mike Rogers for his lack of decorum? After all, it’s all about image, right?
Love it.
lgm and friends…when’s the last time that your representatives did anything like this? And had to go hunting down the press?
Now, if the GOP would actually tackle all of the issues we have with this kind of tenacity, we might actually get more done.
Let’s see if this trend continues, or if this is a one shot deal.
Keep it up-keep it up R’s. I hope this on gobs of blogs keeping people up-dated. Gads, this is a great Friday for me.

Senate Republicans needs to join them. Show some solidarity.
.
BOOYAAA x’s 3!!!
The question BEGS to be asked:
Is the RNC listening and watching?
This is what conservatives want – leaders with “Malkins”.
Republicans are finally showing they have gum balls.
Maybe they’ll develop some brass balls.
Then, maybe, I’ll have faith in them again.
Be even better yet to see some democrates join in also.
Sarge
shhhhhh….is that the sound of backbones and testicles growing…..why I think it might be! Hooray!
Going on vacation is not an order that must be followed. Good job (R)’s for showing some backbone and standing up for the American public who even in California are in the majority % in favor of drilling for more oil here at home to solve our energy dependence on foreign oil.
Democrats don’t want more refineries here in the U.S., Democrats don’t want new drilling for oil on U.S. coastlines and artic tundra. Democrats want you to suffer for daring to pollute “Mother Earth” and wait for new technology to eventually come around, one-day-over-the-rainbow so the U.S. can be oil free. If they bring the economy and planes and trains and shipping trucks and people driving to work and tractors plowing the fields to a grinding halt then too bad, we deserve it so sayeth the Demoncrats (D).
Not to seem tech ignorant – but what is “twitter”?
Rep. Hoekstra: Capitol Hill Police under orders to shut down Capitol by 4:30 PM.
I have Fox news on and they are getting this out and will have it on next. FINALLY, let the American public know what is happening. WOW, great for our R’s.
L
Do you think the capitol police will arrest our reps on the floor of the house? This keeps getting more interesting. HANG TOUGH!
No WAY!! Will they make arrests? That would be awesome if our reps were to get arrested over this. Some real back bone that would be!!!
wrc:
Twitter is a social micro-blog site. You have 140 characters to state a thought–what you’re doing, something you’re thinking about, etc.
You can follow friends or people who interest you, and reply to other people’s tweets.

I’m addicted.
If a few democrats would join with the republicans they would have a quorum.
Is this legal??
The Republicans MUST take advantage of this move!!
jellibean – thanks. I will check it out.
They should record it in chunks and upload it to the Internet. More viewers this way ;P
The house Republicans has 5 weeks to get their voices heard unimpeeded…this has the potential to change the face of modern american politics. This is a true fillibuster that must continue. Everyone in this BLOG who supports this act must now come awake and act. Contact your Congressman or Senator, tell them how you feel.
It’s “Mr. Smith comes to Washington”, and despite the efforts to squelch this, if it can last as long as the democrats wish to stay on vacation, you’ll see them return to a totally different political dynamic with the popular opinion being handed over to the minority party. The American people LOVE the underdog and will support this as long as the effort is honest and sincere.
Besides, arn’t you upset that they can vote themselves a FIVE WEEK paid vacation?
KEEP THE CAUSE ALIVE!
I was thinking of “Mr Smith Goes to Washington” too. This effort is worthy of its own movie, especially if it wakes up more people.
Good luck getting Hollywood to make a movie like that. Well they may take some “artistic liberty” with the facts and change it so the demoncrats are doing the right think for America.
Were they arrested? 4 minutes to go and see if the Rep’s get arrested.
Are we keeping roll call even if it is unofficial?
Never “got” Twitter but it sure is paying off now…
Except when the Dems did it three years ago, it was make-believe. A fake impeachment inquiry isn’t exactly the same thing….
In the Capitol basement yesterday, long-suffering House Democrats took a trip to the land of make-believe.
chap, this isnt even remotely close to being the same thing. Those guys staged a mock commitee and tried to make things official, as i’ve noted above from the link provided.
They were pretending to do work. They weren’t actually trying to accomplish anything other than some media attention. notice there were MSM cameras, coverage, etc.
I believe, in this case, this is something completely different. And much more important.
Also three years ago they didn’t have to go find the MSM and drag them kicking and screaming over to cover it either. you couldn’t beat the cameras off with a stick! Shiela Jackson Lee was writhing on the floor of the house in total orgasmic ecstasy for all the cameras in her vicinity.
17600+ views on Qik so far since 5:15 PM ET.
Partial list of patriotic Republicans:

Hey, that reminds me of win I was a kid playing ‘make believe games’. We had fun doing it too. I do not think I would enjoy is now and haven’t for decads.
*decades
As I go back and read the posts I see many of you picked out the childs ‘make believe game’.
It does not surprise me that the left would take this serously because they prefer living in ‘fantasy’ then ‘reality’.
*seriously
not a good typing day for me

OK one thing I’m noticing from all the major tech blogs (TechCrunch, TechDirt, Engadget, Gizmodo and others) is total silence. On any other issue, you’d see them tripping over themselves (Gizmodo and Engadget especially) to bring this sort of news to readers everywhere. I’m rather surprised by TechCrunch and TechDirt, which are usually known for being politically neutral and for chiding each side where necessary (their editors and core bloggers are quite careful to maintain neutrality or the semblance thereof). No word from any of them on how Twitter and Qik have successfully and quite obviously circumvented restrictions that old media could never have blown past.
I for one will start following these gentlemen on Twitter from here on.
??? Pandering for votes masquerading as pretend outrage?
Big spending, corrupt, open borders, me-too Republicans are still the same big spending, corrupt, open borders, me-too Republicans.
