Obama’s chair on his jet reads “President”; LA Times analyst says his arrogance is a “myth”

By see-dubya  •  August 4, 2008 10:31 AM

Front and center on the LA Times’ site is an article by media analyst James Rainey, sniffing at the commentariat who have tried to brand Obama as “arrogant”, “presumptuous”, “elitist”, or “a hollow pompous arugula-snarfing windbag in love with the sound of his own voice” (er, that last one’s more or less my coinage) and jumping the gun by acting “too presidential“:

We have reporters, columnists and TV talking heads to thank for exposing these outrageous displays. So apparently the verdict is in: Sen. Barack Obama, too confident to govern.

It all would be quite funny if many people didn’t seem to be inhaling this multimedia stink bomb as if it were fragrant truth.

So who are you going to believe: credentialed mainstream media analyst James Rainey of the extremely important (and credible) Los Angeles Times…

…or your own lyin’ eyes?

It’s a bit of a stretch to think this is a sign of Obama’s hubris or arrogance. “Obama – President,” rather than “Obama for President” is a fairly common sort of thing for a candidate. Look in any neighborhood around election time, and you’ll see “[Candidate] – U.S. Senate” or “[Candidate] – Governor,” or even “[Candidate] – President.” They don’t always include the “for,” and that doesn’t mean they think they’ve already got the position.

Clearly, the ‘08 makes this is a campaign logo. If this were on a bumper sticker on the back of someone’s car, no one would say anything. If the chair said “President Obama,” such talk would be justified, but it doesn’t. It says “Obama ‘08 President.” Big difference.

That’s a cool picture of the side of the plane, Artbyruth. Looks like a bumper sticker. I don’t know when candidates graphic designers left off the “for” on buttons and side of planes. On a chair, like a director’s chair, people often put their name and title. I don’t think that the GOP is going to make this a commercial to say that Obama thinks he president, but this is just the latest amusing story to come from Obama.

I did an image search for McCain’s bus, and no where does it say “McCain. President.” And on his plane, just his name on the door, and his chair that does not claim that he is president.

Again, this is just another example of Obama’s “you’re not president yet” moments.

As Michelle Malkin pointed out the other day, we needed to have 1976 to have 1980. Who knows? I don’t believe we’ll be stronger as a nation as a result of Obama’s presidency, but I believe that if we do experience 4 years of a BO administration, we might end up being better off because of the NEXT election. Perhaps a house cleaning is just what the doctor ordered for the Republican party.

It may be a necessary condition but it is not sufficient. Bad times do not cause Reagans to appear out of thin air. I have no idea why some people seem to think there is a law of nature requiring a Reagan to come to the rescue whenever the country has endured a Carter, but there isn’t. Makes no sense whatever. It might happen (you see a Reagan lurking about anywhere?). But I really wouldn’t count on it. And certainly not with McCain-Feingold in place (h/t to Ann Coulter).

The huge out-of-control danger with Obama is race. We have already seen that the mildest criticism leads to the damning cry of “Racism!” I don’t have to watch the news to know it. I have experienced at work. Moreover, while Obama presumably harbors no ambitions to be an American Mugabe, plenty of his supporters do want to cast him in that role. Sorry, but Obama is a weak, ignorant man fronting for forces he does not understand and cannot possibly control. Let me second that. Right now there are a lot of people advocating a direction to take that sees Obama winning, and telling us all that we can get through it. It won’t be that bad. For them, I would like to make sure that they haven’t been slipped any “tryforgettin” into their drink from a hillary supporter who doesn’t need their daily dose.

If it’s unacceptable to mention anti-christ to Obama, then it should also be unacceptable to inflate the dangers of McCain.

One thing is certain in this hungry world: No regulation or law should be allowed if it results in crops rotting in the fields for lack of harvesters.”

Answer: Your hero, Ronald Reagan, in 1977! I guess with your logic about not voting for McCain because he supported amnesty AND the enforcement of our borders, that you would have voted for Jimmy Carter in 1980. Then the Cold War would never have ended.

Hmmmm, Reagan was a “moderate” Californian who turned into an excellent conservative president. Why can’t McCain go from being a “moderate” senator to an excellent conservative president? In any case, anyone is better than Barack Hussein Obama.

McCain actually is more conservative on immigration than Reagan was. McCain supports enforcement but also amnesty. Reagan supported NO enforcement AND amnesty.

So you are looking back with nostalgia but without any logic.

The “View” with Babwa Wawa replayed their previous audience with the “Chosen One” today.

It was obviously a moment back in May, when Obama had already taken the position that “Reverend” Wright’s statements weren’t the man he knew, but he hadn’t thrown him under the bus yet.

Obama’s defense of “never” hearing Wright’s racist, anti-US, anti-semitic and bigoted beliefs over 20 years were so tortured and so lame, that even Babwa Wawa was seen wrinkling her nose at some of his answers.

Now that Obama is the Democrat nominee, I guarantee that you will never see her wrinkle her nose at “The Chosen One” ever again.

    there! fixed it!

When my son, Gid, read this post, he broke out (litterally) rotfl. Curious, I asked what was so funny.

He gasped: “The mental picture! Read Michelle’s blog.”

When I couldn’t see it, he told me… but he’d misread it, (it is that wierd font he uses, I’m certain…).

His misread does produce a humorous mental picture, though…

    I thought I’d share…

A couple of you are putting words in my mouth, and frankly I would appreciate an apology for the impolite manner in which I have been addressed by some of you.

I never said that I wouldn’t vote for McCain. I never said that others shouldn’t vote for McCain. I never said that I don’t believe McCain would make a good president. I never said that we would get another Reagan by electing Obama.

I did say that MM said that she wasn’t voting for McCain. I did say that perhaps the Republican party could use a good housecleaning. I did say that I think that this great country could withstand a Barack Obama presidency.

If my faith in the American people makes me naive, atheling, or illogical, Gabe, so be it. For every Jimmy Carter the American people have elected, there’s been a Ronald Reagan. For every Bill Clinton, there’s been a George W. Bush. The people have made mistakes, without question, but our Constitution is such that our government can’t be completely hijacked in the course of a 4 or 8 year administration.

I believe that, in the end, conservatism wins when pitted against liberalism. We’ve certainly moved left as a country in the last fifty years, but there is no reason to think that we can’t move right in the next fifty. I believe that the hand of God Almighty is on this great country, and has been since Day 1.

I respectfully disagree with some of you, with the key word being “respectfully.”

Obama having “President” tagged on the seat of his campaign plane is a non-story. Running for the presidency demands a great deal of confidence, and the seat is a logical extension of that confidence.

In contrast, here’s a story of some importance: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=71431

On the positive side, this means that if Obama wins the election, it will be his second term as president and he will not be able to run again. :)
