Oops: Democrat on VP shortlist underscores Obama’s inexperience
This is definitely snort-worthy. The foot of Democrat VP shortlister Bill Ritter, governor of Colorado, meets his mouth. From a reader:
“Michelle – check out Colorado Governor Bill Ritter’s oops this morning on the Mike Rosen show, hour two (www.850koa.com). When asked about rumors that he was on the list as a vice presidential candidate he remarked (not quoting) that his 18 months of gubernatorial experience were insufficient to be considered for vice president. When asked to compare this to [Obama's] 143 days of experience [in the Senate], he quickly changed the subject.”
I’ve transcribed the relevant parts of the exchanges, in which Ritter first downplays the rumors that Obama is considering him…
Rosen: “Why don’t you think you’d be a good choice?”
Ritter: “Well, just because, I think there are a lot of things that he has to take into consideration. I’ve been governor for 18 months. My experience before that was as a district attorney. I loved being a district attorney…but I don’t think that’s what Barack Obama’s looking for in a vice president. I’ve been governor for 18 months. It’s been a great experience. But it’s just 18 months…Obama has to think about experience…levels of experience…”
[Ritter then discusses other VP possibilities...Tim Kaine, Evan Bayh...praises their experience, foreign policy creds...Joe Biden/chair of Senate Foreign Relations committee..."Any of those three would make sense to me"...Kathleen Sibelius is a great woman...]
…and then during Q&A, Ritter fields an excellent question:
Caller Richard from Windsor: “Governor, you said 18 months’ experience wasn’t enough experience as governor to be the vice president. Would you want to contrast that with the 143 days’ experience Obama as senator before he decided he had enough experience to be president.”
Ritter: All I can tell ya is I am a fan of Barack Obama’s. Met him in 2004 during his campaign for Senate…You meet him and discover there’s something very different about him. That’s all I’ll say.
Har.

Friggin’ awesome. Too bad NO ONE will run with this story in the MSM.
What size is Ritter’s foot?
Great post, Michelle. I love the line ’something very different about him’. You bet you bippy there is.
L
Hope the shoe laces go down fine.
I hear Obama starting up the bus!!!!!
Better hide your dumb @ss Ritter cause Obama gonna run it over.
Under da bus for you.

I think I may have the answer to that question Cosmo.A little bigger then Sideshow Bob’s foot. D’OH!
ROFLMAO
Ooooof! If he was on the short list, he isn’t any longer! Off to the bus wheels for you, Governor!
well one thing for sure he has to pick a VP that speaks and understands fluently er, uh and um.
Best laugh I have had all day. What a campaign commercial that would make.
ROLF!!!!!!!!
ask his DENTIST.
Yesterday on “Meet the Press,” some political guy from MSNBC, Chuck Todd, reminded the panel about how piss-poor President Bush I’s choice of Senator Dan Quayle for Vice-President was due to his “inexperience.”
I believe he also cited that Senator Quayle was the least qualified VP choice to date.
Dan Quayle:
-Two term US Representative from Indiana’s 4th District.
-Two term US Senator from Indiana.
Tom Brokaw never questioned Chuck Todd’s statement.
I still wonder how Brokaw and Todd comfortably measure Obama’s 143 days of Congressional experience as a Presidential candidate against Quayle’s “inadequate” 10 years of Congressional experience as a VP candidate?
Does anyone else smell a political “bias” here? NBC News really is pathetic.
Obama: This is not the Ritter I knew. His comments do not help my children. UNDER THE BUS WITH HIM!
. . darn. . someone already beat me to the bus comment.
This is about someone who some Republican operative speculates might be on Obama’s VP short list. Not exactly a direct hit against Obama.
On the other hand, there is plenty of direct video evidence that McCain is too old and confused to be President.
Heh.
while i’m certainly not on mccain’s cheering squad….
Do you REALLY know how crazy you sound when you say that?
“republican operative”? The radio host? Looks like he asked a question, and a caller nailed him between the eyes with the experience question.
It’s not a direct hit on Obama, btw. But it does highlight a problem he has. But dont let that get in your way of being a blind follower of the Obamessiah.
Again, it must be so easy for you to be so weakminded. You’re not even trying anymore. It’s almost sinful to deconstruct your posts at this point
Remember when Bush Sr. selected Dan Quayle as his running mate & the MSM was beside themselves over Quayle’s lack of experience? Well, compared to Obama, Quayle was an elder statesman.
For the life of me, I can’t understand why the Republicans (yes, I talkin’ to you, McCain) don’t exploit Obama’s inexpience more. After all, if Quayle’s Senate career was insufficient to be Vice President, why is Obama’s Senate career sufficient experince to be President?
He doesn’t want to be called a racist.
hey, lgm
If you have the stones, take a minute from your Obamessiah prayers to go wish someone else well.
http://michellemalkin.com/2008/08/04/end-of-an-era-novak-retires/
That’s 19.
When even other liberal Democrats are saying, even indirectly, that you’re too inexperienced, you know you’re in trouble.
I think the campaign bus is getting high centered on the people he’s thrown under it.
ummmm, just wondering, exactly how many of those 143 days did Obama show up for work?
Is there really any room left under that bus? Gettin’ kind of crowded.
lgm - As least you never change your tactic… Defend Democrat topic by redirecting to how Republicans are worse. (Oh no, they brought up something about Obama’s experience… Quick! Change topic to McCain’s age!)
The point is not whether or not this man in actually on the short list. The point is that he is out there trying to garner support for Obama and he said that 18 months is not enough experience to be VP. The caller made an excellent point about Obama’s experience, something that is an important issue for this election. And the situation that occurred is humorous… to those with a sense of humor outside of Republican-bashing.
Well, if somebody can get the sound and some good images to go with it, we’ve got another viral/Youtube ad for McCain.
Desparate times call for desparate lgm breath.
Desperate spelling, too.
I’m almost jealous of lgm. He reminds me of a retarded guy I saw standing on a street corner once.
This guy would wave madly at cars, and if the driver would wave back, it made this guys day. And if a semi driver would blow his airhorn, the retard would almost faint from excitement.
I’ve often wondered if he was the lucky one. Every few seconds he was blissfully happy, and didn’t understand that he wasn’t smart enough to recognise his lot in life.
Sorta like lgm.
Ritter clearly was on a short list. Stop trying to cover up the cat crap lgm. Obie is sliding down the rabbit hole and all the scratching and shrieking in the world can’t stop him. An old McCain with five martinis in him trumps a trained puppet every time. No contest.
As Mr. Burns would say, “Excellent…“
Uhhhhhh, no. The talk has been out there already about Ritter possibly joining Obama’s ticket, especially from some of your cohorts.
I think we can find still images of the Governor and audio but an actual video with audio of the exchange would be great.
RedDog, is there another kind of McCain other than an old one?

Your attached video seems to show John McCain telling a gentleman that his question will be next, while, inadequately, asking a lady to please repeat her first of two questions. (I don’t understand what the “three” camera angles prove.)
I understand the importance of Obama supporters trying to equate John McCain’s competency with Barack’s many conflicting statements and poor delivery (ummmms and ahhhhhs.) But to classify McCain’s fumbling in asking someone to restate their first question, while he is telling someone else to wait, as being “too old and too confused” to be President is overplaying your hand, to say the least.
And this, just a day after you were telling us that Obama didn’t actually say what he said.
This is the best verbal fumble in weeks (and there have been many fantastic entries to compete with).
18 months as Governor = not enough executive experience to be Vice President of the United States
143 days as a U.S. Senator = enough executive experience to be President of the United States (in liberal la la land that is).
Thank you Richard
Outstanding. Reminds me of the CafePress T shirt ad I saw years ago,
“Even on Drugs, Rush is Right.”
I have to go here with the New Republic’s definition of a gaffe: it’s when a politician unwittingly tells the truth. And we got three more months of political degradation to go before election day.

Sure, Ritter met Barry Obama once back in 2004, and from that one meeting was able to discern his character and integrity? Trust is something earned over time and through experience. Character is something that manifests over time through action and deed.
From what I’ve seen of both Clowns: Obama and Ritter, they’d make a great circus act…and that’s about it.
AliasK said (#16):
It wasn’t the inexperience. Dan Quayle was instantly recognized as a moron.
Have a look at the McCain video I linked to and ask yourself whether you want a President who draws a blank when asked about what he did yesterday.
I didn’t either, back when ” Ilovemycountry ” posted the same thing. Maybe they got the same email of what to say on the blogs today. As I responded to him, Wow. A youtube video uploaded from an obama supporter. Three angles of McAmnesty not answering a question for 10 seconds and thinking of what to say, without a prompter. While his answer is cut off. Well that makes the world of difference, Thanks!
First he isn’t sure he hears it coming.
Then the bus is bouncing down the rutted road.
This thread was too funny BEFORE “The Idiot” made his statement. I laughed so hard I am crying.
Good one lgm. And I thought his posts could no longer be funny.
HHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
If anyone wants to see liberal snobbery and condescension at work, just go back and watch Brokaw during the 1988 debate between Quayle and Bentsen. Quayle was holding his own and Brokaw didn’t like it one bit. So he asked a stupid question to Quayle: “If you suddenly became president what would you do?”. The question is stupid because it doesn’t have any facts about what type of situation the country is in. Are we at war? Is there a terrorist attack looming? Brokaw added none of these things to his stupid question. So Quayle should have told him: “This is a stupid question. What are the facts on the ground and then I will try to answer your silly question”. But Quayle said “This goes to my qualifications”. Brokaw snickered and haughtily said “No” as if he is the professor shushing a silly freshman. Then Bentsen, who had ample time to think up an answer, responded by insulting Quayle. Interestingly, Bentsen’s claim to be a close friend of JFK was a lie. But the liberal media went wild with the Brokaw-Bentsen gangup on Quayle.
Sadly, thanks to gambling lobbyist Frank Farenkoph, the Republicans are locked in again to the MSM debates in which Brokaw, Gibson, Couric are lined up to be anchors of the debates. With these guys McCain has no chance.
You HAVE to meet him to discover he is a hardcore leftist. I mean really hardcore. I guess you’d have to be there…
And this is why McCain wants the town hall debates, marc.
143 days???!
My neighbor was school board President for 2 years!
Why isn’t he anointed President of the United States??
See?! he is good for something, Soap - comedic relief.
Well McCain can say age, years listening to democrats in the senate or 6 years of being a POW may have harmed some brain cells. What can Obama say. When he gets interviewed he stutters and stammers and has a difficult time getting a coherant sentence out. Maybe he can say it comes from snorting cocaine or smoking pot, or listening to Wright’s sermons.
But, Obama stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.
Oh, wait! No he didn’t. I forgot that his tastes are more along the lines of the Ritz, etc. There isn’t any arugula or $100 a pound ham at a Holiday Inn Express. My bad!
143 days???!
Yeah, but he’s been planning to be president for at least 15 years.
(And you know the funny thing, the link that I found was on the top of the page on the first page page from an internet search. THANKS Hillary!)
If that combination didn’t kill off some brain cells, nothing will.
Ritter’s comments make perfect sense if you are in the tin foil hat Bushitler Huffington Post crowd.
See, in their conception of how the government works, the Presidential candiate’s experience doesn’t matter as the President is merely a puppet with the VP pulling the strings.
Uh did Obama find him on these people’s list? It’s called the Internet people surf it
http://colorado.mediamatters.org/
lgm,
Yawn. 18 months vs. 143 days Gov Ritter was right.
Hopefully, the veep selected won’t have been elected by having his opponent drop out after being exposed by a messy divorce.

I remember it well. And I’m glad you brought it up.
Yesterday on “Meet the Press,” Brokaw was “moderating” a political guy from MSNBC who basically implied that Dan Quayle (10 years in Congress) had less qualification to be a VP than Obama (143 days in Congress before running for Predident) has to be President.
Brokaw never challenged this statement.
Then, either Andrea Mitchell or Judy Woodruff went on to reminisce about how Lloyd Bentsen “absolutely skewered” Dan Quayle during their ‘88 Debate with the “Jack Kennedy” comment, but how it was so ironic that Quayle was the one to become VP.
Slightly off subject, but yesterday’s episode just reminded me, for the umpteenth time, how unbearably biased that whole crew (Russert included)are/were. You basically have a group of either ex-democrat pols and/or operatives running entire news bureaus, and constantly telling us how “objective” they are.
Could you imagine the outcry if Rove, Libby and Fleischer ended up running the CBS, NBC and ABC News Washington Bureaus respectively?
“You meet him and discover there’s something very different about him.”</strong
Yeah, he’s different. He’s inexperienced, he’s got a funny name, he doesn’t look like those other presidents on the dollar bills, and, uh, did I mention, uh, did I happen to, uh, say, uh, that he, uh, that, uh, did I uh mention, uh, that’s he’s, uh, he’s, uh …
I have a question for lgm, can an ass kiss an ass?
I agree with Ritter. There IS something different about BO.
But not in a good way.
Ok, ok… Will you please leave the “breck girl” out of this?
The LAST things I worry about Barack Hussein Obama is inexperience, being an empty suit and such. I worry about a man who is mohammedan or sympathetic to mohammedans, a communist, anti-Semite/anti Israel and arrogant Chicago machine Democrat. With Pelosi and Reid in Congress and left over Carter/Clinton thugs in his cabinet it doesn’t matter what experience he has. He has Louis Farrakahn and Bro Jerry Wright and Michael Pfleger to provide experience in doing evil. Barack Hussein Obama and Sista Michelle Hussein Obama have plenty of experience being flat out dangerous.
The Leftist may well worship His Messiahship but no honest people do. Question is just how many honest people do we have? And yes, I always keep my tires properly inflated. Not real original there Your Messiahship.

What alternate universe do you live in?
Of course it was a direct hit against Obama. A man rumored to be on Obama’s short list for VP admitted that 18 months experience as a governor was not sufficient for the office yet we’re supposed to believe that 143 days in the Senate is sufficient for Presidential candidate Changey Hopiness?
Get a grip.
I felt that comment backfired. It showed Bentsen as mean spirited.
Similarily, Al Gore attempt to intimidate Bush by getting up in his personal space also backfired.
I think Democrats have a tough time hiding their arrogance.
lgm knows he’s on the losing side of any argument about these candidates based on rational thought, so he offers none. Thus his recent tendency to drop a single comment in a thread and not reappear to support it when it’s questioned.
P.S. Ritter is an idiot!
He comes out to Northeastern Colorado, where the only business is agriculture, during a drought, and his only solution for the dire straights that our fields and cattle herds are in is to tell us to build windmills!
Sent his lackey out here last week to tout the carbon credit plan. Says we farmers will now get rich buying up carbon credits and leaving our field to go fallow.
New carbon offset program planned in Colorado!!
radio relay #60 thanks for making me realize having to give up living in Colorado Springs for the middle of nowhere Idaho was a blessed event. I wonder what Governor hoof in mouth thinks the farmers will live off of with no crops planted when the meager savings many farmers are sustaining on until the next season’s crop is harvested if most of us free thinking folks don’t go for the Goracle’s carbon credit scam. Then again many of the Californian’s that have invaded the once beautiful state of Colorado just might be dumb enough to go for it, but I wonder what will happen when the food shortages kick in.
HI-larious!
Radio Relay….I like that Breck Girl!
Huhwhat,
Can an ass kiss an ass? Do you mean his own ass or someone elses?
Don’t forget, there was an earlier issue over experience…
The socialists lost that one, too.
Geez radio relay and boomer, I’m hungry already. Burned the last of the corn in my car today. sarc/
What are we going to do if Dumb and Dummer don’t wake up to what is coming out of their mouths?
There was a time when Colorado was considered both conservative and a little wild-west. I’m 1 year younger than dirt and can remember those times.
What has happened to them since they became a “Territory” of California is really a tragedy.
BTW: Don’t under any circumstances let a Colorado native have anything to do with Airport design. Whether on the design or approval side they really don’t do well.

The road to the DNC convention is paved with human road bumps.
I can’t wait to see how Gertrude (lgm) and Heathcliff (Rusty, the two seagulls, react when the object of their worship falls on his socialist two faces. I can just picture Red Skelton now…. “Hey Gertrude! Yea Heathcliff?”
Boomer, Colorado is, and remains, a beautiful state. Take your hyperbole and shove it up your tailpipe.
Wow,
dakine up late, staying on topic and making another great post. HEH
Soap, I’m not gonna let the guy get away with dissing my state. Again, another dumb blog post. Democrats, Republicans, the media, pundits, the blogosphere, regular ‘ole citizens, you name. Everybody has been talking about Obama’s inexperience since he entered the race. This is not some sort of newsflash. He’s wildly inexperienced. Where’s the story here? BTW, Ritter is a typically moderate politician out here in the Rocky Mountain west. We like ‘em pragmatic and non-ideological out here.
self edit: “you name it.”
Beautiful, I love this post MM.
Semper Fi
I’d say the Democrats having come up wirh a “wildly inexperienced” (to put it politely!) person as their best selection for President of the United States is, and will remain, quite newsworthy. It’s not like we’re talking a library board election here.
You miss my point purplepeep. All I’m saying is that Obama’s inexperience is not some sort of big secret. Hillary spent months talking about it every day. Where’s the gaffe?
Leave it to liberals like LGM to reference youtube to validate Obama:
For the record, my little sister wouldn’t be able to use that source in her senior English class.
I guess LGM and the liberals who posted this have different standards?
Anything to get Obama elected right, and step one: make him something he isn’t: qualified to LEAD.
At least he was honest for a minute. Has Obama ever been?
Naw, I get your point but I think you’re still missing mine. Bozo the Clown in February is still Bozo the Clown in November - it’s an ongoing, staggering “gaffe” by a major political party.
Which leaves the Dems with the embarrassing task of doing what we’ re talking about here; Obama seeking a VP choice who’s been around the block at least once. It’s an ongoing problem plaguing his campaign.
- lgm
Fine, we’ll go with the moron angle then (even though it’s not true, criticism of Quayle was based largely on his inexperience).
“I see many of our fallen war heroes in the audience today” - Obama
“My grandfather helped liberate Auschwitz.” - Obama
“I’ve campaigned in all fifty-seven states.” - Obama
I’m having a hard time seeing how Obama looks any better from this angle. His public gaffes are easily as moronic as Quayle’s. I’d think this sort of thing would be important to you, since in another comment thread today, you so eagerly pointed out a grammatical error by Bush. . .either that, or your double-standard is showing.
This is the same sort of spin the clintoons used when they wanted to defuse a potentially strong outbreak of people asking questions. “Oh, that’s old news.” And the liberal press was more than happy to go along.
Because Obama is “wildly inexperienced” is a reason he should not be president; the main reason is, he is a wack-a-doodle socialist that will cause more harm to this country than you can imagine.
AP this is absolutely GREAT… Open mouth, insert foot, never sounded more appropriate…
Obama makes Quayle seem like a genius.
Liberal Media didn’t cover this enough. Screw Georgia and Russia, THIS should be on every mainpage in the country. Damned liberals. They will burn and burn and burn in hell, and I’ll laugh at them.
