An invitation for pro-drilling Democrats
Put it in writing, pals.
GOP House leader John Boehner calls the bluff of “pro-energy” Democrats who say they support drilling:
- House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement in response to an article in today’s Politico that suggests Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has secretly signaled to rank-and-file House Democratic lawmakers that they should feel free to portray themselves publicly as pro-drilling if it helps them politically:
“My message to Democratic lawmakers is this: if you’re really for increased American energy production, then prove it by putting it in writing. Sign the discharge petitions House Republicans are circulating that will force votes on energy legislation Speaker Pelosi refuses to bring to the floor. And sign onto the American Energy Act, our ‘all of the above’ plan to increase conservation, innovation, and American energy production, instead of doing the Speaker’s bidding by voting against bringing it to a vote. If you aren’t willing to put it in writing, you’re fooling no one. You’re siding with the Speaker of the Drill-Nothing Congress and radical special interests that favor higher gas prices, at the expense of energy-strapped American families.”
NOTE: House Republican members have sponsored a series of discharge petitions on energy reform bills the House Democratic leadership refuses to allow to come to a vote on the House floor. Under House rules, if a discharge petition is signed by 218 or more House members, the majority leadership is required to schedule the legislation for a vote. House Republicans have also introduced the American Energy Act (H.R. 6566), a comprehensive energy reform bill to lower gas prices and move America toward energy independence through an “all of the above” approach. To date, however, rank-and-file Democrats have failed to demonstrate independence from Speaker Pelosi on American energy, refusing to sign onto the GOP discharge petitions and voting with Pelosi on procedural measures to prevent the American Energy Act from being considered on the House floor.

John Boehner should be on McCain’s short list.
Yeah, put your money where you mouth is and force a vote - Do they really think their constituents are so stupid to believe railing against Pelosi rather than backing a vote will suffice?
Asked and answered I suppose.
Sign the petition:

John Boehner expects them to back up their words with action!?
Well just who does he think he is!?
I don’t think that “pro-drilling” Dems will sign anything. They’re too invested in protected their “asses.” I don’t trust anything that Dems, even blue dogs, say they “support.” Saying you’re “for” something and “proving” it are two different things.
I would love to be a fly on the wall to hear how blue dog Dems explain why the hell the Dems are doing what they’re doing. For a party who professes to want to give the people “everything” or care about the people, they show little concern for their “suffering.”
Maybe. But we really need the man in Congress; he is a good parlimentarian and irritates the hell out of the botox bimbo.

I’d love to see who these so-called pro-drilling Dems are.
Calling their bluff.
Finally the Republicans get some cohones.
After the initial horror of McCain and then grudging “acceptance” of him, I now think guys like John Boehner look pretty darn good for 2012 POTUS. I guess that’s analygous(sp?) to shipwreck survivors delighting in eating fish eyes when they get the chance. I was not impressed with him prior to this crisis, but maybe it’s just a political instinct to go for the exposed Democrat jugular.
The more we talk about drilling, the more prices drop. DOE EIA gasoline prices
Democrats and Obama demand drastic action and say that talking or passing laws won’t change anything quickly. Meanwhile gas prices drop. Drill more, fill gas taks.
These Dems are are no more for drilling ANYWHERE than Obambi is. The leases he is talking about would be tied up for years in litigation. The leases that are ready to produce onshore and offshore almost immediately are off the table as far as they are concerned. A liberal is a liberal is a liberal. In their heart of hearts they cannot throw the environmentalists under the bus. Especially when caribou and fish are to be saved. Much less the whole planet.
Hit ‘em high and hit ‘em low. Hit ‘em till they drill. Go, go, go!
As much as I would like to see a strong conservative in the POTUS for 2012. I think that Boehner is good right where he is, for now. I prefer term limits so we can ease our suffering under these power hungry politicos.
Knowing that this (term limits) is most unlikely, I would rather have this type of Republican remain in congress. I could put up with a RINO in POTUS if we had a stronger Conservative base of Republicans in the Senate and House. Does anyone have the status state by state of the dems versus repubs and the new issue of drilling? I can only hope that the Republicans will begin to make this an campaign battle issue up through November.
It just might change the face of the two Houses from a strong blue to purple?
Aweseome. Don’t let the b*stards have their cake and eat it too - make them walk the walk if they are going to talk the talk.
Finally, Republicans showing some balls and the ability to master the obvious.
Ya gotta sympathize with those dems a little. The lobbying pressure against drilling from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Venezuela, Mexico, Russia, Nigeria must be immense. They wouldn’t want to offend their friends of the New World Order.
The only thing holding back the Repuks from winning the the WH, and Congress is themselves and not riding this oil, gas, energy problem for all it’s worth…through in some illegal alien info and the contest is over.
If 60% of the country is right of center, as I keeping on the radio and t.v. how is it the democraps are in charge?
There are no “Maverick” Dems that will sign a discharge petition.
They would immediatly be ostracised, have all their earmarks denied, and get no campaign cash from the party or George Soros.
Boehner is doing a great job pointing this out to the 2% of Americans who pay attention to facts, hope that’s enough.
And, that is precisely what I expect from the Democrats up for re-election and election this year - pretend to be in support of domestic oil exploration and production, while it politically expedient and then flip-flop, again, if they win. Why would a politician have a problem lying just to get votes. It’s not stopped any of them in the past, regardless of the party affiliation after their names but, espeically, not the Democrats.
Because they’re smart enough to go out and vote.
They really should make election day on a Saturday. We would probably get more Republican turnout because it’s not a workday. But I’m sure the Dimwitcrats would cry foul about that.
Now there’s an image I’d like to see in your rah! rah! suit.
Drill Here! Drill Now!
Geez … the idiot isn’t even in the White House yet and we’re already starting with the short jokes …
HAHAHAHA
RWR

Similar to the “show ID to vote” programs that sent them over the edge.
Dems are losing on:
The war.(they deny their is any improvement then quit talking about it.)
The ecomomy (they still are talking tax and spend which everyone knows is no way out of recession).
Energy (Nobody cares about polar bears when the gas price is 4 dollars).
Race (Why should Obama
keep looking foolish by bringing it up?)
This election should have been a slam dunk
I’m not convinced John Boehner isn’t doing this for any other reason than political expediency. I would not like to see him as VeeP. I think there are better candidates. Would I prefer Bobby
Jindall or Sarah Palen of Alaska? Sure, but I don’t think either is seasoned enough. I heard John Kasich’s name mentioned this morning. I think that would be a good match.
I don’t remember seeing this much passion and hard work from the Republicans in Congress since Gingrich. It’s sad that it has taken so long, but I hope it continues.
OK, help me out here - why the continual call for drilling when the vast consensus among experts (even the White House’s own energy office) says it will not have any effect for 10 years and even then it will be negligible? Is it just to say we’re doing something?
And what do you think of the Time Magazine study that says inflating your tires will actually save more oil than we’ll get 10 years from now by drilling?
And finally - if we still are desperate for oil in 10 years, than we have failed. We better be using a lot more alternative energy resources by then.
So again…why drill?
That was a rhetorical question, I agree…voter fraud along with major media deception and don’t forget the RINO’s.
1 of my senators is up for re-election and he advertises his 50% party voting record as a good thing…how he’ll reach across the aisle, yep he’s a RINO.
Sent him a question…”do the democrats ever reach across the aisle to the repubs?” no anwser of course.
Eagle - the question you should be asking is “why NOT drill?” Why can’t we inflate our tires AND finally access this country’s valuable resources that are sitting right there for the taking.
Also, even if we don’t see results for 10 years, it still has an effect on pricing today. That is the law of supply and demand. What if I told you that in 10 years we will find a huge stash of gold that will double the world supply of gold? It wouldn’t take 10 years for the price of gold to drop. The price would drop immediately because of the anticipation of the future increase in supply. Same with oil prices - they aren’t just based on how much oil is in the market today, they are based on many factors including anticipated future supply and future demand.
It take 10 years to drill, build power plants and to upgrade power infastructure only because lefties force us to spend 5 years in courts, spending millions of dollars proving we will not hurt a migrating lady bug.
This happens at every attempt to provide energy of any kind this is why we are short of oil and electricity, we are short by intention.
Do NOT think electric cars because we do not have the power in infrastructure to recharge them.
Eagle,
I’ll have to dig the reference links back up, but the reports I was reading showed there were approximately 260 Billion barrels of oil we could have access to…just in ANWR, there is approximately 80-90 billion barrels…enough oil for our entire country for the next 8 years.
The problem is, we dont keep oil. We end up sending alot of it overseas in exports to other countries. Its the same mistake, in respects, that Iran makes…they have all of those oil reserves, and no refineries. We refine it, and send it elsewhere. Were we to not send all of that overseas, we’d have enough oil in total to last approx. 35-40 years. But we wont. we’ll send it overseas and not keep it for ourselves, and the process continues.
I would also point out that if getting all those billions of barrels wouldnt make a dent, then what good would the meager amount Obama said to get from the strategic reserve do? It was what, a million barrels? If 90 billion would be negligible, then the reserve amount would be nonexistant in regards to fixing the problem.
Lets remember that oil is not just used for fuel, it is also used to produce plastics.
It or gas is also needed as fuel to make steel, imagine getting enough heat from solor to manufacture steel!! lol
Eagle, India and China’s economies are and will continue to grow as does ours.
Why be imperialistic (it’s always smacked me as imperialistic) to NOT drill in our own Country but pretty much demand other Countries drill. Never made sense to me.
I heard on Rush this morning that if we do drill offshore, in ANWAR and get oilshale reserves, it won’t just be our oil, it would be part of the world oil market and therefore subject to the going market rate for oil. (Which I don’t fully comprehend.)
Plus I don’t believe “getting” the oil out of the ground will take a full 10 years. Getting more refineries built could. There are Oil Refineries in Richmond,California (across the Bay from San Francisco) which could be expanded. Think Pelosi and Boxer should succomb to pressure to build out those?
Hmmmm?
Come on lets go and keep the heat up. DRILL AND REFINE MORE NOW right here in the US of A!!! NO restrictions of where. Drill now. Drill now. Drill now!
Do you politicians hear me? We need to drill a hole in some of your brains, too, cause some of you just don’t get it. Our very existence as a nation depends on it. Start drilling and building TOMORROW as we make every effort to come up with other technological solutions to energy. I am tired of being extorted over oil and it can only get worse.
You environmentalists want to save the earth so bad? Go over to Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Russia, Venezuela, Nigeria, etc., and protest there? OHHHH thats right you can’t manipulate them and you might lose your life as well as get no sympathy.
We need Energy Diversity. We need to expand Nuclear and Alternate sources for electricity purposes. We need oil for transportation. I thinf the Left’s reason for opposing drilling is they think we will all park our cars and start riding bicycles. I like the “All of the Above” approach.
A great way to push this is make it law that all domestic crude is to be used in the US except for humanitarian/emergency reasons. Also this would reduce the trade deficit, which is definetly a plus
And even if so, in 10 years we will be soooooooo glad we held our ground and got started. Our children will thank us and so will our grandchildren.
You aren’t going to see any Dems sign anything while Pelosi is in charge. Afraid mommy might spank them. She looks mean enough to do it too!
I think Obama just demonstrated once again what an idiot he is. Same goes for Time, and for that matter, you. Every time I take my car in for an oil change or other maintenance they check tire pressure, among other things. If you had any sense, you’d do it too, at least every other fill-up or so. It won’t make any significant difference in the amount of gas you use unless you’re running around on a flat (or nearly flat) tire.
Just to pretend you have enough intelligence to understand this, the “vast consensus” among “experts” is worth exactly as much as the “vast consensus” on global warming - i.e. nothing. The world doesn’t work on consensus. It works on fact based reality. The experts whose opinions I rely on, i.e. members of the industry, say we could be bringing new supplies on line in previously surveyed areas withing a matter of months to a couple of years, depending on the location. After all, they built the Alaskan Pipeline in only a year. The delay, as someone noted earlier, is in the litigation from such as yourself that would surely precede development. And furthermore, we don’t have to bring it all online at once, even if it were possible. Any significant increase in the supply will affect prices.
If we don’t drill, we’ll surely be desperate for more oil in 10 years - which means, by your standards, every solution proposed by the Democrats will be a failure. Thank you for understanding. As for alternate energy resources, nobody is trying to stop development on any of them. You’re more than welcome to spend every penny you can lay your little hands on to develop any and every alternative source of energy. Just don’t try to do it with my taxes.
Why not?
And had we started in 1996 when we last had this discussion, we wouldn’t be having it today. In addition to what has already been said regarding market speculation, we are currently unable to run farm equipment and trucks and trains on wind or solar power. How do you propose we get the food from the field to the grocery store with no oil? Do we really want to rely on the Arabs to provide us with enough?
The Chinese (thanks to the Cubans) are poised to start drilling 50 miles off the coast of Florida. Oil that could be going into our refineries will be going into Chinese refineries (And I’d be willing to bet that it won’t take 10 years). And if they have a spill, do you think they will be the least bit concerned about our tourism industry? Yeah, me neither.
It’s about self preservation.
The same thing I think of their ‘ICE AGE’ report in the 70’s. Do you remember the picture of NY under ice? only the WTC sticking thru??
Any chance someone has a E-copy of this cover?
I guess that’s been pretty much OBE’d.
They leased from Cuba and are angle drilling to our land and oil.
Have you noticed that environuts and msm do not portest or start lawsuits when the Chicoms drill O U R oil???
Why? do they stop us from drilling our oil but its O so cool when the Chicoms drill our oil for free? Why?
I wouldn’t believe Jason Altmire, D-PA, if his pledge was in writing and his hand on the Qur’an.
And guess who’s picking up the tab when spilled chicom oil hits the Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas coastlines? That’s right, you-n-me. and the evironuts will probably try to convince us that it was our fault besides.
Then again, it will be for not drilling (in an environmentally safe way) in the first place.
At least when it’s in writing, you can call him on it when re-election time rolls around again. Assuming the local media is willing to pick up on it, or at least the GOP challenger.
let the environuts go out and pick up after the future Chicom oil spills in the Gulf. It may be the first honest work they’d do.
I would really like to see some real relief at the pumps in the middle of nowhere Idaho. We are still paying $4.05 a gallon for regular unleaded down from $4.11 a gallon although you can drive over 50 miles to Boise to pay $3.96.
I love Comrade Peloski’s plan. Lie like hell to your constituents and when you win reelection flip the trusting fools the middle finger. More of those San Francisco values from the leader of the most ethical Congress ever!
- abstractmind
The numbers I read for ANWR are close to that (I read 100 billion), but that doesn’t work out to 8 years.
Our current usage is ~21 million barrels/day. 100 billion barrels is enough to fulfill that rate for 13 years.
And that’s if we disregard the 5 million barrels/day of oil we already obtain from domestic sources. If we don’t deduct that, ANWR has enough to support us for 17 years.
I don’t know why people listen to “government estimates” on how long it will take to start seeing oil from areas currently off limits. When the oil companies - you know, the one’s who drill for the oil- are asked, they say we can expect to start seeing oil in less than 2 years from some of the easier spots, with major production in less than 7 years.
When is the government ever right about future estimates on anything?
wrcnossen,
It’s possible that the oil companies are not including the time they will be wrapped up in court fighting lawsuits from environmental groups. I susect those figures are from the time they are able to start drilling, with no court injunctions staring them in the face.
As much as I would love to see Boehner on the ticket, I would love to see MY congressman more.
McCain/Cantor.
A Virginian in the White House in 2012.
Put Delegate Bill Janis in for the 7th District of VA, then he gets to be Governor, then, in 20 years, ANOTHER Virginian in the White House.
Sounds like a plan to me.
ack. . .susect should read ’suspect’
giggle giggle
Add 5 years and tens of millions of dollars spent in the courts before they can start to drill. Now it is 7 to 12 years to oil, If they win permission from the courts.
Thank God for Michelle Malkin. Is there anyone else covering the “revolt”? Why aren’t McCain and Bush trumpeting their support of the conservative House Republicans to put it in the news? I’ll tell you why. They only support drilling so far as there is no chance it will happen. Now that they have leverage, they disappear. It’s all about amnesty and Cap and Trade “my friends”.
Would Nancy actually throw herself under the bus in order for her fellow Dems to save face with their constituents?
Really?
I suppose she might. She’s probably confident that she’ll come out of all this unscathed. No need to worry, her party’s safe as long as they play along, until the next vote comes up. They’ve got five weeks to figure things out. Well, four and a half weeks now. Nice stall tactics, Blueys.
Ordinarily CNN wouldn’t be my first choice for Iraq objectivity but CNN.com reports:
It seems that the Bush Whitehouse knows the citizens of the U.S. wouldn’t stand for our money going to reconstruction in Iraq for many reasons.
So, is it an end run around the citizen’s objections to let oil prices rise and pay for it that way? Are we, the American people, getting hosed to pay off one man’s debt??
I wonder….
You sure, the sources I have looked up on this say over 99% of domestic oil is used in the USA…only a small amount of “oil products” not generally produced in other countries are sent out.
What difference does it make? We are spending about 1.7 billion dollars/day on imported oil. Even if we drill and put our oil on the world market, (which we don’t), the benefit of keeping billions of dollars in the USA would still be there, along with hundreds of thousands of new jobs, having the capability to withstand an interruption of imported oil without destroying the economy, drastically reducing the trade imbalance, etc.
The reason the “don’t drill” people can never come up with a logical reason not to drill is because there isn’t one….so they just make stuff up and some people believe it.
I’ve informed my Democrat Representative that if he wants to drill for oil but Nancy Pelosi is blocking the vote then I have no choice but to vote to remove Pelosi as Speaker of the House by voting to restore a Republican majority in the House, i.e. vote for his Republican opponent. I figure that’s the best way there is to tell them that letting Pelosi take the heat isn’t going to work.
