Books that are walloping Nancy Pelosi on Amazon.com

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 5, 2008 12:13 AM

For your amusement, here are five books I picked at random that are spanking Nancy Pelosi’s book on Amazon.com as of 12:01am August 5, 2008. The last one is so fitting:

Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, “Know Your Power:” 782.

Tori Spelling, sTORI Telling: 13.

David Freddoso, The Case Against Barack Obama: 14.

Adobe Photoshop Cs3 Classroom in a Book: 241.

The Anatomy Coloring Book: 299.

Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done: 446.

***

One more. Tee-hee:

When All Hell Breaks Loose: Stuff You Need to Survive When Disaster Strikes: 679.

***

From commenter Ent, details about the review deletions at Amazon. I’ve heard about this from several readers:

The interesting side of this story is how Amazon has been deleting hundreds of negative reviews of the book. I saw the 1-star rating count at 170-something a few days ago. I hear it went over 200. Now there are 28. As people re-post their reviews, they get deleted again. No telling how many distinct negative reviews there have actually been since they’re apparently being actively deleted as they come in.

Needless to say, Amazon doesn’t provide this service for books by conservative authors.
There are some complaints in the discussion forum associated with the book.

This is bigger than just ideological censorship. Amazon is deleting negative reviews and altering its star-meter rating system to influence purchases. This little book review manipulation has been going on at Amazon for awhile, it seems. Glenn Reynolds got lots of foaming-at-the-mouth denouncements from reviewers who said they did not need to read his “right wing crap” to know he’s a warmongering fascist. (He’s a libertarian!)

Did you hang on to any reviews of your books there, Michelle? Do you remember good reviews disappearing, while the rage-enhanced lefties were allowed to pile up, skewing your overall rating? I remember well how YouTube screwed over anything anti-jihad on their servers.

That’s basically what advertising is. Just like the poster for a new Rob Schneider movie isn’t going to tout the legion of reviewers who say it sucks, Amazon is going to censor the reviews of things it wants to sell.

I’m not saying it’s nice or ethical, mind you. And it seems pretty clear they’re doing it here for idealogical reasons rather than a pure profit motive. I’m just saying it doesn’t even come close to being illegal… nor should it, really.

Prospective buyers often rely on those reviews as a true and reliable reflection of the product worth, and make a buying decision based on that – I know I do, and heavily. Unless Amazon clearly state that negative reviews will be removed and review rating may not reflect true opinion, then they are intentionally misleading the public, and as such could be sued for every item they ever sold, as it now casts all ratings into doubt and means items were sold under manipulated expectations.

    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Know Your Power: A Message to America’s Daughters (Audio CD)
I went down to the local store and grabbed this book off a shelf, got a cup of joe, and read it. I have the joy of being able to read her book and not paying a dime to her.

I guess the book makes sense in a Bizzaro world sort of way. I’ll give you that warning.

Nancy gives the reader her life’s lessons. Nancy tells about her struggles against Republicans and the various groups that make America a not so great place to live. It’s kind of weird reading what the Speaker of the House thinks of her fellow Americans: Nancy thinks less of people politically opposed to her than of violent criminals. Crimials act bad because of events in life. Republicans and Conservatives are bad because they think wrong. Actually, it’s a little chilling.

The writing is OK. I just hugely disagree with what she writes and how she thinks.

Now, don’t think here writing is in the same league as Professor Newt Gingrich. Gingrich has his personal issues but he is a fantastic writer and an excellent history professor. Nancy generally writes in this strange first person way and how her logic is alway best. Actually, “logic” is a wrong word. It’s Nancy’s feeling that matter most. You’re going to get a book of feelings. It’s like Oprah as a politician who writes, badly.

Nancy is a mere opportunist. She is bankrolled by a fortune. She writes for the leftist tea and cookie crowd that has never had to do a hard day of work in their life. But if you read her book it will give you insight into the way they think of us.

Sorry, Nancy gets one star and she earned it.

Well…she’s not doing that bad. “Proud To Be A Liberal” by Robert Lasner is ranked #904,696. Your kids’ drawings hanging on the refrigerator door could sell better than that literary classic.

“The Pet Goat” is ranked at 156,255 as of this morning.

    Nice.

This woman is an absolute failure, just like her book. She’s a bizarre example of how even feminism has its limits.

I didn’t even know she could connect words into a sentence. She’s pretty much incoherent when she gives interviews. What’s with her facial expressions and her gesticulations?

San Fran Nan had the audacity to say that Pres. Bush was a “failure” too. Lady, look in the mirror. Your face should be next to the definition of failure.

Are there any pics of San Fran Nan from when she was a younger woman?

It would be great to have a bikini shot of her.

    Well sort of great.

A word about Amazon and their reviews and deleting reviews.

I am a top 100 reviewer on the site, so I have a little bit of experience with them. I have never had a review deleted because it was negative. However, when I write a negative review, I make sure I stick to facts and leave emotion and name calling out of it. They will delete (or not even post) reviews they feel are an attack on the author and not about the product being reviewed.

They also have that nice little “Report this” button. If enough people click on it, the review disappears. Amazon actually doesn’t even look at the review to see if it should be taken down or not.

Yes, that leads to huge abuses of the system. You want to see the worst? Do a google search for “Reba Belle and Deborah MacGillivray.”

And the rants pretending to be reviews on political books are horrid. On both sides of the aisle. When I look at review on one of those topics, I hit the “Report this” button quite often.

My guess is the liberals, who leave the negative, personal attack “reviews” on conservative books are the same people who hit the “report this” button when we do the same to the liberal books.

To be perfectly honest, some of the reviews I saw when I looked at the book weren’t reviews of the book. They were funny. But they were attacks on Pelosi and had little if anything to do with the book. I know this will make me unpopular around here, but I support Amazon taking those reviews down.

If you want to leave a negative review, at least have the decency to talk about what you are actually reviewing and not just show off for your friends.

Know Your Power: A Message to America’s Daughters

Why is Pelosi wasting her time on a message to America’s daughters when she knows they will not become productive adults for another 5 to 10 years. Isn’t that the reason she gave for not investing in more oil drilling, because it would be 5 to 10 years before a new oil well could become productive? Then why waste your time investing in our youth?

The public libraries in my “blue” county ordered 13 copies; less than half have holds on them. Look up your county on your Internets.

In Albuquerque 2/19 copies are on hold.
