Calling the Democrats’ bluff, Part II

Republican House leader John Boehner called the Democrats bluff the other day by calling on those who say they support drilling to put it in writing.
GOP House members have followed up and are calling the Democrats’ bluff again. They’ve extended an invitation to each and every Democrat to come back to Washington and join them in the summer battle to get energy legislation passed.
Come out, come out, wherever you are:
House Republicans Challenge Democrats to Join Fight for Lower Energy Prices
WASHINGTON, DC – House Republicans today sent a letter to every member of the Democratic caucus requesting they join Republicans and the American people in calling for Speaker Nancy Pelosi to reconvene the House of Representatives and pass a comprehensive, “all of the above” energy plan.
“If you agree that Congress should not be taking a five-week vacation until we address the energy crisis, will you join us in publicly calling on Speaker Pelosi to reconvene the House and allow a vote on increasing American-made energy,” the entire Republican leadership said in the letter.
Republicans have remained in Washington, D.C., since Speaker Pelosi adjourned the House for a five-week vacation last Friday in an attempt to silence the minority and deny the American people a vote to provide relief from our nation’s energy crisis.

Who needs a television? I’m getting free entertainment from our Congresscritters.
Outstanding. Keep up the pressure.
If the Democrats actually return, that would be a “change we can believe in”!
“Let’s roll!”
I just called my Demoncrat congressman’s office, telling him to get his lazy butt back to DC.
Also called Pelosi’s office and gave them an earful.
Keep up the pressure!
To quote a certain Presidential campaign . . .”YES WE CAN”.
Finally a GOP I can support.
How long can these clowns go on representing their own interests and then then craming their agendas down our throats?
Kind of ironic that Boehner would sign that letter considering he’s been out golfing.
gonna have to clarify who you’re talking about
When’s the last time you were on your job 24/7? Didnt think so.
Just when I was loosing faith in the Republican Party, it appears to be growing a pair.
Why can’t ANY member convene Congress? Last winter when they were on recess, they took turns going in every 3 days, convening and closing congress in order to prevent Bush from making any recess appointments. One would come in,bang the gavel, wait a few minutes then bang the gavel to close it down and that was legal. So why can’t they get open now?
Maybe they could get some work done while Nancy and Harry are away?
This is great! I am so glad John Shadegg is participating in this. He lives in the neighborhood where I jog and I am tempted to put some balloons and a sign in his yard telling him “thanks” for all this.
But I don’t want to get arrested or anything….

… of Snickers?
What is ironic about it? If your marxist buddies actually show up (they won’t) at the capitol Boehner will be there.
Why are you here today. I thought you were going to the mall to get your Hannah Montana poster framed.
Well, they would certainly get more done if they weren’t in the way.
They are all full of it, but we should be accessing our own resources.
What would be more useful is a list of Congressmen/women who have not stayed and links to their offices. A mass e-mail barage might work wonders
I think we need a slogan like Neut’s drill here one. I propose ” no drill, no dems, no bull!” meaning if she don’t allow the vote everybody votes republican, and we’ll just take our chances with the next congress.
Today, the noble Republican is saving the nation by playing golf.
If the Republicans were smart they would have someone at every public appearance that these supposed democratic supporters of drilling make. And that person would have a copy of the discharge petition for the energy bill in hand and he would publicly ask the democrat to sign it, right then and there. Video would be good.
As soon as one of these democrats make the annonouncement Boehner should publicly dispach a copy of the petion to them, on the next plane flying that way.
And i played 2 days ago, and skipped half a day of work.
your point?
“A pair of balls beats everything”
Just thought that was worth repeating.
I propose that if one does actually show up we all give a short round of applause for them breaking ranks and standing up for what is right for the country instead of what is right fo rspecial interests. I hope we don’t just concentrate on those not showing if the tide does begin to turn.
have you been drinking Abstract?
Milk came out of my nose, Ron Rockstar #14!
That’s some good stuff right there.
Republicans must bring the crats to the court of public opinion. We need to include the public in message and process. It will be the public and their vote that punishes the crats not reach arounds and congressional compromise.
Lgm still thinks we have a one man government with total power, and the rest of it (congress) is irrevelant. Just what do you expect the noble republican to do…that’s legal? We have to wait for the democrats now to do something…and wait…and wait.
Not lately…why?
If they don’t want to go to Washington and work for the people who are paying their salaries they should be horse-whipped. That would put a little fear and respect in the
speciesfeces.Pelosi is trying to make money selling a book, Obama is in Hawaii today on vacation, Duke Cunningham is in prison… what a bunch of losers.
Love it,l now if they would only stop the earmarks ….
Thanks for the up-date Michelle. Thank all the Republicans keeping this up. This sure isn’t getting much press except on the blogs. Rasmussin: 81% say finding new energy source urgent. There has to be a Dem. or two in that finding.
L
And thats all well and good.
My point in saying that before was that, regardless of who they are or what job they have, people take time from their lives to do things that are relaxing or enjoyable. I don’t sit at work all day, never getting up or doing anything. When lunch comes around, I dont sit and stare blankly at the screen until its time to work again.
but here’s the rub.
The man went and played golf. If Rusty and lgm and the others are going to give us hell for everyone going on vacation, well…then i’ll play the equivalence card and fire this in their face.
If democrats and everyone else can do it, why cant he? I mean, democrats are out doing whatever they want. I dont see a problem.
that is the point i’m making
Sorry if the sarcasm or pointedness didnt come across as originally intended. I’m pointing out the hypocritical nature of showing the man playing golf, while democrats are doing nothing more important themselves.
the only time lgm has a point is when he’s at the Up Your Alley festival.
ROFLMAO
You had me worried for a minute..i thought i’d missed something. LOL
And Nancy is sitting in an empty book store trying to sell her book that she can’t even give away.
But if I was calling on others to come back to work during an emergency, I would lead be example and be there.
I dont disagree. but again, using the lgm method, I had to take the shot
Wonder if Fairfax County’s perhaps presumptive freshman Congressman, Jerry Connelly would be in the House Chambers?
While they are on a paid 5 week vacation, my home price is dropping, gas is too high, our borders are open, and our elected representatives flew home on their private jets and are “golfing”. … I sure hope they are having a relaxing and enjoyable time, cuz I’M NOT!
TOS and LGM, most people make time in their day - before, during or after work - for some relaxation. Stay at home moms, bus drivers, police, baristas, office workers, and yes - even John Boehner. Making a point of that simply means you have (as usual) no point at all. You are simply trying to deflect from the real issue - which is inaction by a Democratic majority for the past year and a half.

my home price is dropping And why is that? There are alot of reasons property values go down. I would need more to go on than this.
gas is too high Agreed. The price is coming down nicely, and is a trend i’d like to see continue. But that’s a work in progress, no?
our borders are open This has been the case for some time now. This goes back alot further than just the recess they’re taking now. While i agree we need to do something about the border, this recess is a drop in the bucket by comparison in regards to the time they’ve had to solve the problem in Congress. Dont look for this to be resolved anytime soon, sadly.
and our elected representatives flew home on their private jets and are “golfing”. And i would too, if i had a jet
my posts above go back to my points made about this earlier.
I know you’re frustrated. Alot of people are…i know i am on various topics, but losing your head doesn’t produce results. Just focus on helping find solutions. Pointing fingers doesnt do any good at this point, right lgm?
I am carrying a few extra nitroglycerin tabs just in case they do

Bowling balls, tennis, golf, billards or other?
Other, ok.

While the glorious, upright Clintons with their inimitable approval ratings, snivel for a place on Obama’s ticket and moan at having been handily routed by their own Democrat Party from any chance at ever regaining the presidency. Oh the irony!
I went jogging 5 miles this morning, but I still would’ve signed that document if I could’ve.
I did some sit-ups after lunch too, but it didn’t change my position on domestic drilling. Heck, I’d be willing to drill in lgm’s head right now if it would increase supply.
You forgot about Democrat Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick getting tossed into jail this morning (gee, and that news is fresh too.)
Oh yeah? Prove it.
It’s easy to find fault with whom you disagree, but better to look at their motivation. It looks like the GOP not only has “grown a pair”, but is actually ready to hold feet to the fire for our best interests.
You are a sick man, planetgeo! She is of average “beauty” with a nearly anorexic body. The only reason most people take the time to glance at her picture is her propensity for letting her cooter wink at the camera when she exits a limo.
Do you mean that crazy car mechanic from the ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ who ended up running for Congress as a Democrat?
political games…sadly this is what the Republican party has been relegated to. Of course, there should be an up and down vote on these issues. Why isnt there? As a conservative I blame George Bush, who with his dem-like out of control spending, his pro-amnesty platform, and his mishandling of the aftermath of our early military victory in Iraq, made the last election a complete bonanza for disgusting treasonous democrats. Now liberal democrat scumbags control the House and Senate, and this is what we get for our Republican elected politicians getting fat and happy for a dozen years, and squandering what we finally achieved in 1994. Next stop: socialist Obama in the WH, and increased dem majorities in the House and Senate. And if RINO McFraud gets elected, his only real worth to conservatives is his promise (will he keep it?) to appoint conservative jurists to the Supreme Court. Not much for a Regan Republican to look forward to.
Good one Michelle, I love it. Calling their bluff.
I doubt there is a Democrat left that believes, or even understands the quote above. So unless you want to die I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for any of them to show up.
The Republicans had better be vigilant, in case they sort of get what they’re wishing for, but it actually turns into something they can be blamed for instead.
I can already see the boondoggle “comprehensive” energy bill shaping up: $100 billion for research into every conceivable alternative energy (except for nuclear, clean coal, and hydroelectric), “obscene profits” taxes on the oil industry, criminal penalties for “speculation”, several tens of billions in new pork to buy lots of democrat votes on issues totally unrelated to energy, a vast increase in the bureacracy and regulation to oversee the evil capitalist-roaders who actually produce energy, and a few acres of new land or offshore leases being granted, most likely where there still isn’t any oil, like the ballyhooed 68 million acres already under lease. The media will trumpet this as a major victory for the American public and the moderate troika of Obama/Pelosi/Reid.
Alternatively, even if the areas ostensibly opened up seem reasonable to conservatives, every new attempt at actual exploration or drilling and every new lease granted will be immediately tied up in court for the next 10 years by armies of Sierra Club lawyers challenging the adequacy and accuracy of the environmental impact statements. Gotta protect those cross-eyed, brown wingtipped furbish louseworts, after all.
Then, the lefties will claim that they have done what the right wanted, and look, no oil is being produced, just like they said would happen.
Time to socialize to evil oil companies, and make Maxine Waters CEO.
With the main stream media on their side, I doubt the lazy, good for nothing democraps will even acknowledge there is a mini-uprising (mini meaning less than 2 dozen congressmen) taking place at the Capital.
Has McCain even mentioned this in any of his speeches?
The Republicans would probably have a much stronger hand to play, if all or at least a majority of Republican congressman were protesting in Washington. As it stands now, you have about a 15-20 there. A more effective stance would be to right a letter to all Republican congressman to join in the fight and come and protest on the House floor.
I posted this on another thread also, I hope those who did not show up or support read either thread.
Let’s do hypothetical: If all the Republican’s did show up, what would your excuse for Pelosi be?
BTW folks…..
3 PAGES of comments on the WaPo site after Nancy Pelosi’s interview.
Only 1 (count ‘em) comment in support of her work thus far……
All the other commenters ripped her a new one on this topic.
good to hear Americans may be starting to wise up to how selfserving and nationally destructive the left is.

And who was Obama saving when he decided to go shopping or to the gym instead of visiting wounded soldiers at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center?
Boehner is trying to help the country, while Obama is trying to help himself.
Conversely, what can you say of the hand that the Democrats have to play, with zero attendance and a House “leader” that squelches debate and votes, when she KNOWS that the majority is against her fine “judgement?”
It is a losing hand, and the polls back that up.
Too bad the “Gang of Ten”, lead by Sen Gramnesty have just put together one of their famous “Bipartisan Bills” they love so much.
It just like every other “bipartisan” deal these LOTES (R) create, it gives the store away to the Libs. Rush: “It gives Obama and Reid everything they asked for, and more.” & “Obama must be turning cartwheels…”
For example, it adds to the people who must sign off on drilling PETA!
Well Gramnesty is following the “Maveric Model”.
Just like those who warned of LOTE-votes foretold!
We now have empirical data proving the postulate.
It hasn’t been passed, but with the other LOTE (R)s, like Snow, Arlen the Specter, et al who will stop it.
Then, when the House passes any bill, they’ll both be swallowed up in Comittee. Effectively removing the only issue giving the Elephants traction.
All those in the “gang” aren’t up for election this time.
Too bad. Well, just time to vote local, and hope we can hold the joined-at-the-hip two parties from raising taxes to 99%.
Did I mention the bill inflates taxes on oil companies skyhigh?
And for lgm: tax a business, and they build it into the product price.
