5 universal gestures and symbols for Obama supporters

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 8, 2008 01:38 AM

Oh, my. The Obama groupies have come up with their own special sign language to signal their religion to each other. Here is the worshipful new gesture that its creators want to spread across the country (”We want to see it everywhere, but more importantly we want this sign to take the world by storm”) and at the Democrat convention with the goal of presenting a “crowd of 75,000 people at Obama’s nomination speech holding their hands above their heads, fingers laced together in support of a new direction for this country, a renewed hope, and acceptance of responsibility for our future” (via US News and HA Headlines):

I’ve got five universal gestures and symbols that better reflect the state of the Obama campaign and its supporters:

And here’s a bonus gesture in light of Obama’s latest dissing yesterday of America. Perfect:

***

Instapundit chuckles.

Dan Riehl plumbs hidden meanings. Hah.

And reader Jim M. e-mails: “In American sign language, the sign for ‘asshole’ is the circle formed with one hand. The new Obama sign can mean only one thing: ‘Big Asshole.’ If the sign fits…”

Jim Hoft: Stolen from Star Trek.

Ron Rockstar fixes the Obama gesture. Change I believe in!

Incorrect. It’d be the sign for “circle” or “round” or even “spinning.” The correct sign language in ASL for “asshole” would be to form an “O” with one hand with fingers all together forming the “O” and your other hand with the index finger inserting partially into the hand with the “O” and make little circular motions. Think “Roto Rooter.”

So, what other symbolism from Triumph of the Will will we see at the convention? I’m not saying this as an ad hominem attack on Obama and his followers. Rather, if folks actually watch Triumph of the Will, they will see striking similarities in terms of communication themes, methods for capturing the imagination through romantic or pride-stirring images, focus on the youth, a lack of focus on systems, methods or policies, etc.
Here are a few lines. I’ll leave you to decide who said them.
    1. “It is our total belief in ourselves, our hope for our youth, striding forward today, to be called on to finish the work which began…”
    2. “We are who we have been waiting for…”
    3. “The … people are happy in the knowledge that the divisions of the past have been replaced by a high standard leading the nation.”

It’s easy to insult something you don’t believe in. You do it to Obama all the time.

    1. So, bad behavior (irrationally attacking something verbally) done by one party justifies the same behavior by the other party?
    2. I don’t recall having said anything derogatory about Obama, other than critiquing his message and political approach from a historical and public policy perspective. I have no personal beef with the guy. I just don’t agree with him.
    3. Why don’t you believe in God’s existence? Wouldn’t you have to believe in God to defecate on Him, as you have said you do?

Send_Me, you’re looking for something deeper that just isn’t there.

Whether you appreciate the fact that there’s something deeper or not, one can infer a bit about a person’s character and moral system. I’m merely critiquing your perceived intentions here.
    1. To try to get banned from a site because (a) it’s “fun”, (b) you “can”, and (c) for money, shows signs of hopelessness and, as you said, a shallowness that’s not very unique, but rather quite ordinary among most folks today. I’m merely trying to determine the source of such shallowness. I often wonder, considering I used to be agnostic, how do most folks answer questions dealing with origins, purpose, morality and destiny. Most shallow folks have delegated their ability to reason to other, hence have given up one of the key elements of being human.
    2. “It’s nothing personal.” Not to get too technical, but your ad hominem (personal attacks) are by definition, personal. Does this spark a swelling hatred or anger within me towards you? No.

The well-known OK gesture, when held with the thumb on top at the level of the chest means “asshole”, as seen in the film Mr. Holland’s Opus. Another variant is shown in the image on the side. (This gesture is similar to the American English idiom, “sit and spin”.)

Just like the spoken word, there is “slang” in the sign world.

So, Obama’s new symbol certainly has a foundation for our “alternative” interpretation.

Oh My, I can’t believe some of these posts. I’ve never seen anything like this on MM’s site. Hope it is not a sign of the future. I don’t think I can defend to the death his right to talk like that.

I guess since liberals don’t have answers to hard questions, they have to have symbols. Poor babies.

It’s easy to insult something you don’t believe in. You do it to Obama all the time.

Ah, so it’s because we don’t believe in him that we insult him! See, all this time I thought it was because he is dreadfully inexperienced, a political shyster that’s far less adept at his pandering than Bill Clinton was as President, one who is also obviously less capable, and who evinces virtually zero understanding of foreign policy (or American geography for that matter). He’s like the vacuous supermodel spokesperson. Look any deeper than the surface, and there’s no substance.

But I guess I think all of that, just because I don’t believe. Sure.

Have some more kool-aid, and try not to be late to class this morning.

    enough of that threadjacking…

Pretty much the only symbol i needed to see was the one above with him on the podium. That shows me all i need to see.

You know, more and more, Obama sounds like Dwight Shrute from “The Office” the time Jim slipped him some of Mussolini’s speeches on the sly to give to the salesmen’s convention.

Here is the definition of what I call the salute “the One”. Very useful for ordering a table for one in a crowded restaurant or saying good-bye to someone you admire. This could be so useful for devotees and admirers of Obama and non-devotees at the same time. So universal in it’s message. Like Obama’s message.<a href=”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_finger

They are really working hard on all fronts to make the Obamessiah look like the second coming of Reichfurher Herr Hitler. All they need is some of those cute little brown shirts and the Obamessiah logo on their armbands to go with their special salute and we could be in for one heck of a fight.

Wait! What am I thinking those that support the Obamessiah are afraid of guns we aren’t and most of us know exactly how to use them either for target shooting, hunting, or self defense. The more the news about this leftist celebration in Denver comes out the more American’s this loser will frighten into voting for McCain (if he can keep his mouth shut on pandering to illegal invaders I might yet).

Something I read on one of the other threads yesterday sent chills down my spine. It was when Newt referred to BHO as the “leader” of the Democrat party. As their presidential standard-bearer, and (God forbid) should he actually be elected President, he will lead and shape Democrat politics for the next couple of decades.

It took a few minutes for that to sink in. (Maybe I’m just a little bit thicker than most people). But imagine, a senator, with 143 days experience, vaulting over all of his much more seasoned party colleagues, to the leadership of the party.

The image of the Khmer Rouge consulting with Cambodian children for policy decisions came to mind.

I can’t imagine the long term damage this Marxist could do to my country if he actually becomes the “leader” of the Democrat party. I can only imagine that the Democrat leadership itself has been completely blinded by his rockstar status to consider that. (No offense to any rockstars out there). Somebody please tell me that I’m overreacting.
