Oh, my. The Obama groupies have come up with their own special sign language to signal their religion to each other. Here is the worshipful new gesture that its creators want to spread across the country (”We want to see it everywhere, but more importantly we want this sign to take the world by storm”) and at the Democrat convention with the goal of presenting a “crowd of 75,000 people at Obama’s nomination speech holding their hands above their heads, fingers laced together in support of a new direction for this country, a renewed hope, and acceptance of responsibility for our future” (via US News and HA Headlines):

Seven year old American youth to Zero, why do you want to be President? Mr. Zero to seven year old girl, Because America isn’t what it used to be and its up to me to save her little girl. I will agree with him America isn’t what it used to be and he and his are the primary reason for it. I usually see playing the “Hitler card” as a cheap shot with no deep thought behind it. But there are disturbing elements here.
We already have “Obama Youth” and their rallies are on college campuses all over the world.
People don’t wear armbands any more. But cute little lapel pins, worn in the middle of a baseball cap would fit in with today’s style sensibility.

This is the most troubling of all. When I saw the speech in front of the “Victory Column” in Berlin, I said “where is Leni Reifenstahl? She must be orchestrating this.” But Obama has his own Leni. It’s nearly everyone in Hollywood. When charisma slips over into the cult of personality, we’re in trouble. There is no substance to this guy. He gets adulation with zero reasoning. Such slavish devotion goes way beyond dangerous. The Germans are so “nazi-phobic” that I’m surprised they would allow themselves to gather in such large numbers under the siegesaulle and chant for a new leader.

Last week we had a couple of house guests for a few of days. Knowing that the better half is a young, idealistic liberal I avoided talking about politics to avoid a confrontation. Still, the subject came up so I kept it light. I was astounded by how little she knew about Obama, whether it is the character issues that are very well known but still open questions (Trinity Church, his wife’s many gaffes, “bitter comments” etc..) or just plain policy proposals such as taxes , immigration, health care, Iraq. All she knows is he is not George Bush, is inspirational, and is going to bring change. Anything negative is Republican/Fox/Carl Rove smears meant to divide and scare us. And this is somebody that prides herself on her education and awareness! Fortunately she is very likeable or I would have made her cry as she is completely unable to express a coherent thought about her idol.
Now, if ignorance were a badge of honor, this poor misguided young lady would be unable to walk under the weight of her medal.
(On a bright note she lives and works in downtown Minneapolis and is fearing the arrival of so many Republicans for the convention. I can only hope that being exposed to so many Republican at once will convince her conservatives aren’t the child hating monsters she has been brainwashed into believing.)

I never even had an inkling of a thought that the Obamessiah had holocaust on his mind. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have to be worried about him bringing down the republic with his dunder-headed socialist ideas.
From Hitler to Stalin to Mao to Castro to Chavez, leaders gaining power through the cult of personality, sap power from the very people they claim to raise up. It starts by taking away the guns, then dissent in the press, then dissent in the public square, then the means of production. Pretty soon, we have the equality of impoverishment… for all but the political class.

I’m eagerly awaiting Obama’s coronation on live t.v. as the American production of “The Triumph of the Will.” Nothing scares (normal) Americans more than a crazed mass political movement. They want a president, not Il Duce. Three things that are worrisome about this campaign:
1. The crackpot need to turn this into some sort of quasi-mystical movement. History has all kinds of ugly examples of what happens when politics become a substitute for religious fervor. Already Obama’s supporters look upon infidels and unbelievers with disdain. What is going to happen if you don’t agree with Obama’s ideas of hope and change if he’s in power?
2. Obama buying his own press. The guy’s arrogance, ego, and presumptiveness makes Bill Clinton look positively humble by comparison. He really thinks he is as awesome as the fanwing media says he is.
3. Related to #2, Obama’s thin-skinned reaction to any kind of criticism of him or the Mrs.. Bush has had FAR worse said about him, even not-so-veiled death threats, and he takes it in stride. Obama gets petulant. It concerns me he will take “Nixonian” to a whole new level. Look at what the also-thin-skinned Clintons did with IRS audits, secret investigations, etc.. We also don’t need a President Obama or his surrogates to start whining about racism any time somebody opposes one of his policies.
I can’t get over how jes’ plain outright funny this, this, umm, gesture is.

And as for your polls with respect to the primaries, you pointed out one, the Zogby poll, which had a really really bad track record. If you look at the Pollster.com final weighted averging of all the polls you got:
Clinton 43.8
Obama 37.8
With the rest undecided or Edwards or I guess Kucinich.
Same with the Repub. numbers. SurveyUSA, ARG, etc…as well as the weighted averages of the polls showed McCain winning over Romney easily. I sure hope McCain isn’t relying on Zogby in deciding he is somehow competitive in CA.

You’ve made it your stock and trade on these forums to actively dodge or change topics. You’ve hardly been one to stand up and defend a position, let alone actually debate it. Your answer for everthing boils doing to the weak@ss moral equivilance argument (WAAAAAAA, the republicans did this instead!) or to just change the entire subject at large when you have nothing more than your flawed liberal ideology to fall back on.
You, wanting to actually talk about the issues, is as much a lie as it is a mockery of the very activity YOU partake in here on a regular basis. You run from people who bring up the facts, or bring up other issues with crap statistics (ironic that these come from a math professor), and then just sit back and shut up when you’ve done your “It’s all their fault” poop and run for the day.
You ask us what our problem is, but the same rhetorical question could be said of you. You think there is something wrong with people who question your position, your philosophy, or your statements, because people simply won’t agree with you out of hand. Never once have you actively pursued a line of logic, and defended it aptly. While i disagree with others who post here from time to time(reference Rusty, Chap, MJ, and so on), i respect the hell out of the fact they actually BOTHER to do research, and actually BOTHER to defend a position once they take it. Under normal circumstances, they dont run and hide like frightened little children when the discussion doesnt go their way. they fire back with what they have, regardless of whether we agree or not, and for that they should be at least respected. lgm, I’ll take your question seriously and give you a serious answer.
Obama, his character, his lifelong chosen associations, his leadership abilities (or lack thereof), and his experience (or lack thereof) *are* the issues in this campaign.
The Sign is not BO’s invention, but do you not see that he draws this sort of insane adulation because he wants it? How else do you explain the Europe trip, especially the Berlin speech, the slavering media coverage of him, the “accidental” media coverage of his children, and the planned outdoor convention acceptance speech (assuming Miz Hillary doesn’t snooker him)? The Sign is just a very funny extension of what BO gins up on his own. We focus on these things because they are markers of BO’s character.
Finally, our nation’s ability to draw down troops in Iraq is wholly due to the success of the surge. If BO had had his way two years ago, none of us would not be able to enjoy what we are seeing now.

OK, saddle up. Tell me what, besides reducing demand (which is responsible for the drop in oil prices from 140 to 110) will drop gas prices in the short (1 to 4 year) term. Hint: it’s not more drilling.

lgm is an idiot, the demand has not dropped 20%. He fails a basic understanding of economics that if we opened up more drilling the sheer concept alone would further drop prices based on speculators knowing we are serious about increasing supply to meet current demand. If we were by some miracle to actually open several new refineries and drill in ANWR and the OCS the prices would drop like a rock to half their current levels for 10 to 15 years by my best guess buying us enough time to get new tech up and running on a mass scale such as hydrogen cars,etc. In lgm’s idiotic world we do nothing to increase supply and gas hits 10 dollars a gallon by 2010 and the economy grinds to a halt because planes, trains, and automoblies that were moving goods before cease moving goods for sale or have to inflate their prices much higher for said goods to cover their massive increase in fuel costs making those goods unaffordable to the average American and still bringing the economy to a halt.

Let’s go
Saying “its not drilling” doesnt change the fact that drilling is something you’ve stated would have neglible impact in the short term. But you did admit it wouldn’t hurt. So saying that drilling wouldnt help is a contradiction on your own part. and dont be so fast to discount things you dislike. Any improvement is good, regardless. I think the improvement would be more than you’ve been lead to believe, but…we’ll get to that later.
But, without being mean or condescending, lets take a look at things, besides drilling, that *would* lower the price of fuel. We also would need to agree, quite logically, that since no other technology is on the table thats as viable, that these are things to be worked on over time.
1. More efficient engines. what better way to make oil work better than making what uses it more efficient? The more efficient the engine, the less we would use, and when demand is low and the supply increases, prices go down. This doesnt come from inflating your tires or other such suggestions.
2. More domestic supply. But that’s drilling at home, isnt it? Examine what increasing our supply would do though, for us as a country. Using legitimate numbers, lgm, its easy to see that there is alot more oil off our shores and in places we can reach it in our own country, than you have been led to believe. Imagine not having to import oil for even 10 years (if we cut the estimates down to 1/3 or so of whats there). Imagine the price of not having to pay OPEC for oil imports. Imagine having more supply. Think of what cutting those costs from overseas, eliminating the middle man, and making our own product would do to the price…its easy to see at that point the effect it would have. Again, supply and demand.
3. Cut speculator involvement. A good piece of the price is based on the amounts speculators work with daily. For good (as in the price drops now) or ill (the price increases), the less market speculation there is, the less involvement with people trying to shark the industry and just make as much as they can off other people paying higher prices…the faster the price will go down and stay down.
4. Explore alterative fuels and methods of generating energy. You’re correct in saying we should explore those options. I disagree with some of your premise as to why, but the fact remains that exploring alternative energy sources is good for everyone involved. It lowers demand for oil, and the price. It provides better environmental alternatives. It lowers dependance on bringing in those sources from overseas. It stimulates the market and drives innovation. Its a win/win. But things like subsidizing ethanol for instance, is the wrong direction. The price of corn has increased 30% since that process began. And using food for fuel, when we could be using food for other projects (feeding the hungry, here or anywhere else, etc) would be better stewarding of our resources.

On KOS, the front page lead is that the Dems are responsible for the price of oil going down. Basically, Feinstein is saying that they passed legislation to drop energy prices.
Though kos is usually crap, the site makes an interesting point thats found there…dems arent really taking credit for it.
From what i’m reading, it closed the enron loophole. Thats all well and good, but a few commenters there point out it closed the natural gas market problem. oil, not so much.
But it does beg the question…if they did that, why arent they screaming from the rooftops…unless there’s something else going on?
And as i’ve said before, and they note there, speculators are a problem.
Good and bad. The speculation bubble is mostly right. The problem with that is, its not we’re claiming that we’re like 10 barrels away from being dry. The claim conservatives are making is, if there was more, the effect would be larger (and if we werent sending it overseas all the time, we’d keep more of our own product).
