John Edwards ‘fesses up, sort of
Well, the shoe has dropped. Does this mean he’ll get to speak at the DNC now? The other big Democrat liar/cheater’s already secured his spot, you know.
ABC News has the scoop:
John Edwards repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extra-marital affair with a novice film-maker, the former Senator admitted to ABC News today.
In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 42-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her.
Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter’s baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test.
Edwards said he knew he was not the father based on timing of the baby’s birth on February 27, 2008. He said his affair ended too soon for him to have been the father.
A former campaign aide, Andrew Young, has said he was the father of the child.
According to friends of Hunter, Edwards met her at a New York city bar in 2006. His political action committee later paid her $114,000 to produce campaign website documentaries despite her lack of experience.
Edwards said the affair began during the campaign after she was hired. Hunter traveled with Edwards around the country and to Africa.
Edwards said his wife, Elizabeth, and others in his family became aware of the affair in 2006.
Edwards made a point of telling Woodruff that his wife’s cancer was in remission when he began the affair with Hunter. Elizabeth Edwards has since been diagnosed with an incurable form of the disease.
When the National Enquirer first reported the alleged Edwards-Hunter affair last October 11, Edwards, his campaign staff and Hunter vociferously denounced the report.
“The story is false, it’s completely untrue, it’s ridiculous,” Edwards told reporters then.

Allah notes the detail about Edwards’ wife and family becoming aware of the affair in 2006 and writes:
If the affair ended so long ago that he couldn’t be the father of a child born in February of this year, what’s he doing sneaking out to a hotel late at night to visit his old girlfriend?
Also: When exactly did they become aware, I wonder, as Edwards paraded the family on the campaign trail? Agh.

Just curious, how come the Breck Girl is getting worked over but Slick Willie gets a pass for serial philandering and the Hero of Chapaquidic swims away unscathed by by liberal criticism?

I give Rusty credit for agreeing that this is an indication of low character on the part of Sen. Edwards. He threw us a bone.
I really don’t care what a public official does outside of the confines of his/her office. I assume everyone with the ego large enough to stand for election has an ego that needs to be fed non-stop. However, I take offense at being lied to.
For the record, if you hold a public office and are asked a question such as “did you have an affair”, the answer is not no. It’s “that would be none of your business”.
On the other hand, if the question is “did you engage in sexual activity with an employee at the workplace?” the answer should be no, and you should not be lying.
This would be a great segment on the Jerry Springer Show.
As a point of clarification, I would prefer my elected respresentives treated their spouse with respect, but I don’t assume they will.
They might not say anything since they don’t love Edwards anymore. Gertrude and Heathcliff are Ocommie worshippers now. And “O” how they love to make excuses for “The One”.

I never understood the, “I don’t care what someone does outside their office”, way of thinking. I do, what a person does outside their office speaks volumes about their character. In Edwards case if he had said, “yeah I’m having an affair with an employee while my wife’s cancer is in remission”, would this have been OK with the “don’t care” folks?

Some people believe that stress can weaken one’s resistance to, or even cause, cancer. If this is true, wouldn’t you think that the combination of being dragged about on a Presidential campaign, plus being shocked and humiliated by the discovery that her spouse has betrayed her, might have something to do with Mrs. Edwards’ relapsing?
I dont usually take enjoyment from other people’s suffering, but John Edwards is on my short list of Dems that make me puke just looking at them. This guy has been the epitome of arrogance and hypocracy, not to mention a first class ambulance chaser, and Im glad this self-important gasbag has finally had his comeuppance. Excuse me but how many men has this women slept with in the preceding 10 months? She has had an affair with Edwards and another married man who fathered her child? Anybody know if Bill Clinton has slept with this woman?
And how many women have slept with John Edwards since he formed his presidential campaign?
This must be the “other America” Edwards was talking about because this does not happen among the Americans I know.

His trial experience is “offensive” not “defensive”.
That is our take for many years. It has led to many bad things. This society is paying hundreds of billions of dollars in social sevices and crime to accomodate the “single parent family”. There was a time a man left his family he was a RAT; has had illegitimate children he was a RAT. Now he is to be understood.

Actually, I disagree with this. The men who screw around and run, who are unwilling to commit, etc. are merely doing what the feminists belligerently accused them of doing for years, while telling women they needed men as much as fish needed bicycles.
It became a self-fulfilling prophecy, and ties directly into the feminist breakdown of the traditional, nuclear family as an “oppressive tool of the patriarchy.”
My problem with AZNethanderal is that he’s using the term “bastard” for the son. That punishes the son, not the dad. So, “crapweasel” is appropriate for Senator Edwards. Bastard is not acceptable for any child. They don’t choose their parents.
So he slept with her, yet did not love her and has subsequently been sullying her name.

No one should be saying ANYTHING about the child. It was not the child’s fault, and amazingly enough, the mother had the decency to not give in to that which the father supports in the first place.
I actually pity the mother as well. first, for having absolutely no common sense what-so-ever, second, for obviously having the IQ of common road kill for even sleeping with the dirt-bag in the first place, and finally, for everything she will now be going through and has gone through for the sake of this scum-bags “reputation” and mistaken belief that he would ever be President or Vice President.
