John Edwards ‘fesses up, sort of
Well, the shoe has dropped. Does this mean he’ll get to speak at the DNC now? The other big Democrat liar/cheater’s already secured his spot, you know.
ABC News has the scoop:
John Edwards repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extra-marital affair with a novice film-maker, the former Senator admitted to ABC News today.
In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 42-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her.
Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter’s baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test.
Edwards said he knew he was not the father based on timing of the baby’s birth on February 27, 2008. He said his affair ended too soon for him to have been the father.
A former campaign aide, Andrew Young, has said he was the father of the child.
According to friends of Hunter, Edwards met her at a New York city bar in 2006. His political action committee later paid her $114,000 to produce campaign website documentaries despite her lack of experience.
Edwards said the affair began during the campaign after she was hired. Hunter traveled with Edwards around the country and to Africa.
Edwards said his wife, Elizabeth, and others in his family became aware of the affair in 2006.
Edwards made a point of telling Woodruff that his wife’s cancer was in remission when he began the affair with Hunter. Elizabeth Edwards has since been diagnosed with an incurable form of the disease.
When the National Enquirer first reported the alleged Edwards-Hunter affair last October 11, Edwards, his campaign staff and Hunter vociferously denounced the report.
“The story is false, it’s completely untrue, it’s ridiculous,” Edwards told reporters then.
What a crapweasel.
Allah notes the detail about Edwards’ wife and family becoming aware of the affair in 2006 and writes:
If the affair ended so long ago that he couldn’t be the father of a child born in February of this year, what’s he doing sneaking out to a hotel late at night to visit his old girlfriend?
Also: When exactly did they become aware, I wonder, as Edwards paraded the family on the campaign trail? Agh.

He made this a point…why? I guess, in his mind, this would only have been inexcusable if he had cheated when his wife was known to have active cancer. She was in remission when he was sleeping with another woman, so it is acceptable.

Since the National Enquirer reported it, I did have a few doubts about the story.
But, since Edwards himself now admits that he was out screwing around on his wife while she was fighting cancer and really needed her husbands love, support, and strength.

Not only will he speak at the convention, but this will raise his standing in the democrap party. As Rush always says, failure and lying/cheating on your wife only let you get higher up the ladder in the Democrap party. If he were a Republican he would never be allowed to speak now.
The following was Edwards’ response to CBS News anchor Katie Couric’s question about whether voters should care if a presidential candidate is faithful to his spouse:
“Of course. I mean, for a lot of Americans — including the family that I grew up with, I mean, it’s fundamental to how you judge people and human character — whether you keep your word, whether you keep what is your ultimate word, which is that you love your spouse, and you’ll stay with them. … I think the most important qualities in a president in today’s world are trustworthiness — sincerity, honesty, strength of leadership. And — and certainly that goes to a part of that.”

Most likely Edwards will continue to deny he is the father of the child, and will put off taking a paternity test until after the election.

Judging from the skin color of the baby Edwards is holding in the Enquirer photo released on August 6th, Andrew Young is NOT the father.
It makes you wonder who put that “rumor” out there.

I would tend to agree. The entire paper should be taken with a grain of salt.
But look how that paper has gone after stuff like this…this is the 3rd scandal of this sort they’ve nailed in recent memory.
The really sad fact is, in these particular stories, the Enquirer of ALL papers, is putting it to the rest of the MSM. Imagine how the producers and editors of other news stations feel, having their journalistic rears handed to them from the same pictures that print all the alien stories

See, those stupid republicans are at it again, but this time, they were so stupid, it took them too long to release this evidence and Edwards isn’t even in the campaign anymore. Besides, this is Edwards personal life and has nothing to do with his ability to lead. It also helps prove the two Americas that Edwards is always talking about.
Am I leaving anything out liberals? Today of course, all the democrats are appalled by this, but that is because they don’t have their marching orders yet. When faced with real life situation, the American people always side on the correct side. They are against illegal immigration, they are for drilling of our own oil and expanding our energy base, they are for lower taxes, they are against imminent domain.

Worse, there will talk about how brave and honest he is for admitting to this. Then it will be “the grieving procees”, “the healing process” and “putting this behind us” (Thanks Oprah.) Shouldn’t we be talking about the issues that Americans care about?

I note that Edwards uses the calendar to support his denial of paternity. I infer from this that he is admitting to having unprotected sex with Ms. Hunter. Not only is the man a liar and a cad, but to risk bringing a sexually transmitted disease home to his ailing wife is more evidence of Edwards’ lack of moral character.

To me that only makes it worse. While I have never been in those shoes it seems to me that I might understand an infidelity better if there were emotions involved. But maybe that’s just me.

There is no one so low as one who would cheat on their spouse…physically, emotionally or otherwise or all…while they are sick or injured. The fact that she was in remission when he CLAIMS to have been doing the wiggle with this whore is in no way an excuse or a reason at all to be made out to be less of a dirt-sucking low-life sack of phlegm shoved into a boy-bag.
Not only that, but the fact that he is STILL going to claim that the child is not his now implies that this woman he had this “affair” with, who he was willing to throw his entire political career into the dumpster for and did not love, is nothing but a cheap floozy, thus attempting to destroy her life and the life of his “love child”.
