The breathtaking audacity of John Edwards; Update: “Egocentric and narcissistic”
There will be a lot of sifting through Silky Pony’s public statements and family campaign photo-ops in the quest to find out when exactly the Edwards family knew about the Rielle Hunter affair (before, during, or after Elizabeth fell ill with cancer?) — and what it says about the failed candidate and erstwhile nutroots Democrat darling.
This has already been thrown back in Silky’s face:
“…I think every single candidate for president, Republican and Democratic have lives, personal lives, that indicate something about what kind of human being they are. And I think it is a fair evaluation for America to engage in to look at what kind of human beings each of us are, and what kind of president we’d make.”
And bloggers are taking a second look at Edwards’ very splashy People magazine photos spotlighting the renewal of his wedding vows with Elizabeth in June 2007–a stunt that scored major gushing from the lib media.
Was this staged to throw off questions about his fidelity? Did the family actually go along with such a ploy? Ugh.
I think this President has shown a remarkable disrespect for his office, for the moral dimensions of leadership, for his friends, for his wife, for his precious daughter. It is breathtaking to me the level to which that disrespect has risen.
Breathtaking. Yeah.

It is inadequate to say to the people who believed in me that I am sorry, as it is inadequate to say to the people who love me that I am sorry. In the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic. If you want to beat me up — feel free. You cannot beat me up more than I have already beaten up myself. I have been stripped bare and will now work with everything I have to help my family and others who need my help.
I have given a complete interview on this matter and having done so, will have nothing more to say.

I can understand why Mr. Edwards would want to avoid having to endure public humiliation on this, but unless he intends to become a complete recluse — i.e. never attempt to play a public role again — he will not be allowed to walk away from this.
On the bright side for Edwards, at least this does kind of dispel “those” rumors surrounding his sexuality that Ann Coulter dared mention.

You know, I at least have to give the guy credit for succinctly summing up a common — almost universal, one might argue — condition afflicting politicians. This guy wasn’t even a truly successful politician (no reelection to your Senate position for you!) — imagine how disconnected from reality long-term incumbents must get. I’m not a fan of term limits, but unless someone eliminates the entrenchment of incumbents, I’m starting to give term limits more value.

Judge Pickering was a man of such decency that he sent his children to a public school rather than sending them to an allwhite private school like so many others. Judge Pickering saw nothing wrong with having his children attend school with Black children. Yet when Judge Pickering was before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Edwards was a bully and demanded yes or no answers from Judge Pickering. Edwards kept on lying and saying that Judge Pickering violated the Judicial Code of Ethics. Now I think Judge Pickering could ask Edwards about violating the ten commandments, about using campaign conributions to buy a girlfriend and about lying to one’s own wife and children. Gosh, Edwards is a phony. And I noticed Edwards didn’t apologize to Judge Pickering.

The thing that amazes me the most about this is that a person with such a huge skeleton in his closet would still put himself in the public spotlight to run for president. Frankly it’s difficult for me to respond to this, without being emotional. I know from personal experience what Mrs. Edwards is going through and how she must feel. Her type of cancer is more familiar to me than I wish. It’s a devastating disease and however her husband feels he’s suffering as much as her, he isn’t. He has made her pain and suffering far worse – my God I don’t know how she can look him in the face.
There is nothing that he can say that would make me think he was anything but a non-feeling, self-centered egotist who thinks the world owes him.
I am frankly sick and tired of listening to even conservative pundits (mostly men) talking about how ‘it’s unfortunate that this kind of thing is made public.”
It’s not ‘unfortunate’ that we know about Edwards – - he has shown a total lack of character and we don’t need someone like him as President or Vice President or anything else of consequence.

I do feel bad for the Edwards family. It sucks, but I’ve been watching FN and listening to former politicians and campaign managers. Nobody – even Krauthamer – like the tabloid culture when it comes to people’s personal lives.

Edwards’ PR team are releasing revised, updated statements including the new information AS IT COMES OUT so that it always appears as though they are fully forthcoming (at that time).
Wow. I don’t know how much lower you can go. Waiting for your wife to die so that you can eventually marry the mother or your illegitimate child (while attempting to run for POTUS) or CONTINUING to lie to the American people even in the wake of what must be nothing other than the ultimate end of your political career. I’m going to follow the teachings of my faith in this instance and not rejoice in Edwards’ fall. I will, however, point out that Edwards appears to be one of the darkest, most pathetic figures of our times. I have never witnessed a man with character so distanced from the truth and so challenged to appear “good.” His entire persona is a facade of limitless duplicity. His work ethic is a lie, his personal life is a lie, and his political principles are ALL lies; damnable lies.
Edwards provides us an example of several immutable truths:
a)In biblical terms, God wasn’t kidding when He said, “Rest assured your sin will find you out.” Edwards is a high-profile example of how our darkest secrets rarely go to the grave with us.
b) The greatest tumble a man can suffer is when he falls off his ego and lands on his IQ. It’s a position from which many never recover.

And I didn’t veer from the topic at hand. What I see is a lot of Rs casting stones at Edwards and turning a blind eye toward their own candidate. When the subject includes Edwards being unfit for VP because of this disgusting behavior, how can someone not then realize that McCain is totally unsuitable for POTUS for the same reason?
