Very funny, in a fourth grade sort of way. Try googling “Obama accomplishment”. You find two kinds of answers: opponents trying to claim that there aren’t any, and people looking at the record saying what they are.
Do y’all remember the Great Harmonic Convergence of 1987? It was supposed to be: “the point at which the counter-spin of history finally comes to a momentary halt, and the still imperceptible spin of post-history commences.”
It didn’t work back then, but I think that was because they didn’t have THE SIGN. Maybe if we all make The Sign for The One – all together while facing east at sunrise – we can make this happen! The rise of the seas will stop, and the earth will begin to heal!

The top 50% income earners pay 97% of the taxes. Poor people do not pay taxes. I am assuming that the fumes are getting to you. You should just plunk down the money and get your own internet access so you don’t have to get free wi-fi at the truckstop men’s room.

What you said is true about income tax, but not about the Social Security tax.
Ron and lgm, one other thing: Self-employed taxpayers are both employer and employee; thus, they pay both halves of the SS tax, along with both halves of the Medicare tax. Also, the net income of their business flows directly onto their individual 1040 as ordinary income, driving them into brackets higher than most employed taxpayers. Thus, self-employed taxpayers are among the most-taxed people in our country, while providing most of the jobs. Very unfair.
When BO says that he will impose the FICA tax on people “earning more than $250,000/year”, he is being purposefully unclear while allowing his listeners to think just about high-salaried employees (”tax the rich”.) Neither his website nor any speech he has given tells us what he will do with net earnings from self-employment, which are by law also subject to FICA tax.
Yep, Obama’s got ahold of it with both hands, there’s no question about that!
You know, this immediately calls to mind one other ‘leader’ in recent history whom also had his own specific ’salute’ – Hitler.
Can’t believe I’m saying this, but lgm has a point. FICA is made of two components – social security and medicare. Medicare is 1.45% of gross, with no ceiling, so for that portion everyone pays the same relative to their income. Social security on the other hand has a cap, so everyone earning in excess of $97,500 (or whatever it is), is technically paying less than those who earn under $97,500, on a relative basis.
The other point lgm may be alluding to the rate as a percentage of basic minimum living. With a low income earner, this digs into not only their ‘excess’ discretionary income, but also their basic poverty line income. With higher incomes, even those still just under the cap, the effect is much lesser on their discretionary income, and no effect on their minimum standard or poverty line level of income. So relatively speaking, FICA – at least the social security portion of it – is effectively (or relatively) regressive.

Nor do they own the businesses that employ thousands and keep local tax bases viable. Nor do they own the expensive houses and vehicles that provide the lion’s share of public school funding through property taxes. Nor do they provide the investment capital necessary to keep businesses growing, housing loans available, or innovation possible.
The rich may not be idyllic or perfect, but the economy couldn’t make it without them.

In theory it is not a tax, it is funding one’s retirement program. It is capped so high income earners don’t get too much social security income when they retire.

Good point, Tre. Not only has Obama not accomplished anything he actually wants to undo the accomplishments of others, like undoing the Surge to lose Iraq. So Obama really is chasing less than zero accomplishments.
