“John Edwards was not aware that assistance was provided to anyone involved in this matter,” Baron said. “I did it of my own voilition and without the knowledge, instruction, or suggestion of John Edwards or anyone else.

Wow, Edwards has some loyal friends. One pays off his mistress and another takes credit for fathering his child. If Edwards had no knowledge of the payoffs, where did the money come from? Baron said it was not from campaign funds, it came from personal funds. But whose personal funds?

Did Baron use Edwards’ money without his knowledge? Or did he use his own money? He must be pretty rich to afford to do this for a friend:

Fred Baron, a friend of Edwards and a campaign fundraiser, acknowledged yesterday that he had helped Hunter financially so that she could move to what ABC described as a $3 million home in Santa Barbara.

Edwards, a Democrat who represented North Carolina, maintained in a statement that the affair ended too soon for him to have fathered her baby, Frances Quinn Hunter, who was born Feb. 27. Hunter and a former Edwards fundraiser, Andrew Young, have maintained that Young is the father.

The affair ended too soon for Edwards to be the father - at least according to the timeline he gave his wife…

Hunter’s sister said Rielle was being falsely portrayed as a “promiscuous person” and was not involved in “setting up” Edwards last month at a Beverly Hills hotel, where he was confronted by reporters from the National Enquirer.

I didn’t think of the possibility until her sister brought it up. Could it be that Rielle wasn’t getting paid enough non-hush money and set Edwards up?

Rielle Hunter had an affair with a married Edwards and then had a baby she claims was fathered by his married friend Andrew Young. No, she’s definitely NOT a “promiscuous person”.

Does anyone know the modern definition of “promiscuous”? I may not have kept up with the latest evolution of morality…

I think the ultimate definition of the word “promiscuous” is similar to the definition of the word “is”, it depends on what political party you belong to.

You’re probably right, gayle, but there is another possibility. Rielle may have used blackmail to get Edwards to come see her by threatening to go public. And it may have been a ruse on her part to set him up for the National Enquirer. She might have been willing to risk losing all those future non-hush money payoffs from Edwards if the Enquirer was willing to pay her more.

This story still has a lot of unanswered questions. The money trail has yet to be unraveled, and that should be a legitimate concern even for posters like lgm.

History has a way of repeating itself, especially for Presidential candidates. This is Gary Hart and “Monkey Business” X 2. Is there anyone who is honestly surprised that it came to this for John Edwards?

Well, that excuse seems to work for Democrats…

Has McCain admitted to having an affair? Does the evidence meet the MSM “standard for proof”:

“…the standard for proof in this kind of intimate behavior is and should be very high,” said Michael Oreskes, AP’s managing editor for U.S. news. Without witnesses, documents, photographs or some form of irrefutable evidence pointing to the truth, news organizations will not endanger their own integrity…

But if you are violating the liberal “Bill Clinton” standard (private lives don’t matter, just move on) in order to distract attention from possible FEC and IRS violations on the part of Team Edwards, by trying to equate this evolving case with that of John McCain’s past…then I guess I hear what you’re saying.

Thanks, rignerd, that helps explain the rising popularity of the Democratic party in spite of it’s abject failures. It also explains why so many Republican politicians want us to be more like the Democrats. They envy the Democrat standard for morality. It might also explains what McCain is doing when he reaches across the aisle…

I think it also could explain what Schwarzenegger meant when he urged the party to take up Democrat issues, to “invade” and “crossover the center”, and to “be the big tent”. Up to 16 partners would take a big tent.

Maybe. Probably not since they were beaten and locked in the closet by their socialist parents and not allowed to watch Red Skelton. Who, by the way was a great patriot.

For the benefit of the younger crowd, Gertrude and Heathcliff were characters of Red that were two stupid sea gulls. it seems somewhat appropriate nicknames for the two sea gulls (lgm and Rusty) that frequent this blog.

Go to the original sources for lgm’s(#11) cut & paste job and you’ll find quite a few important details that shine entirely new lights on his insinuations.

    1) After the former director, Mr. Gosinski, whom she had fired, of Mrs. McCain’s non-profit medical charity (AVMT) went to the DEA and reported her for illegal use of drugs, then filed a wrongful-termination lawsuit against AVMT and offered to settle it for $250,000, the McCain’s attorney (John Dowd)considered it to be a possible case of extortion and turned the matter over to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for investigation. During the subsequent trial, Mr. Gosinski alleged Mrs. McCain had asked him to lie to help her adopt a baby. That was proven to be a falsehood. Mr. Gosinski was also shown in court to have told other AVMT workers he would blackmail Mrs. McCain if she ever fired him. Gosinski eventually dropped his lawsuit, and the McCains did not prosecute him. Report HERE.

2)The person who complained about McCain bringing a reporter with him to see Mo Udall was Bob Neuman. He was an aide to Udall for many yars in the 70s and 80s. So — what angered Neuman? The New York Times Magazine was doing a piece on McCain. Writer Michael Lewis was spending a lot of time with him to get the story. Udall was very ill in the D.C. veteran’s hospital at that time, and in fact, died a year later. McCain took Lewis along with him on his regular visit to see Udall. That angered Neuman. He thought McCain should have cleared such a visit with Udall first. It’s not so unusual that a long time Udall aide might be protective of his dying boss, is it?

But what else does Neuman have to say about McCain’s Udall visits? “He does deserve credit for the time he spent with Udall during his final years. “There was no steadier visitor,” Bob Neuman recalls of McCain’s visits to his old boss’ bedside during Udall’s very long struggle with Parkinson’s disease. And for that, Neuman says, McCain earned his “respect and admiration and affection.”

3)Different studies in the 1980s yielded different opinions about whether building three telescopes in the Mount Graham International Observatory would harm the endangered Mount Graham red squirrel population. McCain differed vociferously with a forest service official. A 4/24/08 report shows the construction did not unduly harm the squirrels, so McCain was right.

    4. First, politicians are politicians on both sides of the aisle. Democrats have been doing to Bush what McCain allegedly did to Mofford since he took ofice, too. Remember the trashed offices left behind by the Clintonistas? McCain is no saint, nor are any Democrats.

Nor for that matter is Amy Silverman, the author of the McCain diatribe. She glowingly reports of being contacted by various news organizations and reporters looking for dirt on McCain, but after they have spoken with her, none decide to use her muck. She attributes that to the fact that they have suddenly fallen in love with McCain, something which she tells us readers very quickly after starting: “…I never did fall for him in the way reporters fall for politicians…” No kidding, Ms. Silverman? You coulda knocked me over with a feather with that statement!

So, essentially, conservative hater lgm stumbled upon McCain hater Silverman’s rant, failed to read beyond the bold type, because it fed his own biases, and thought the rest of us were equally as dense as himself.

Isn’t that the usual liberal faux pas? They think we’re all stoooopid and unable to think for ourselves.
