Nan on drilling: No longer the hoax I knew

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 12, 2008 09:46 AM

Maybe Do-Nothing Nancy should enter the Olympic diving competition. She gets a 10 for her flip-flop-flop yesterday on drilling. It is now no longer the “hoax” she knew.

What a hoot. Did she think she could sell 2 more books trying to pander and straddle like this? Nan, you’re slaying us. My sides hurt.

From CNN’s Larry King show:

PELOSI: I would not. It depends how the drilling is put forth. But I don’t — that is not excluded, let me say it that way. It depends how that is proposed, if the safeguards are there. Now, mind you, 68 million acres — 10 million more acres in Alaska where they can drill. But if there’s — if we can get some great things, in terms of renewable energy resources; a renewable electricity standard; wind, solar, biofuels and the rest in that context, because if you make a decision only to go with the offshore drilling, you are increasing our dependence on fossil fuels and you will never free yourself of that addiction unless you invest in the renewable energy resources that are good for the environment, cheaper for the consumer and will reverse global warming.

And the consumer is our first responsibility. The American taxpayer owns this oil offshore, by the way. Let me make this one final point. This oil is owned by the American taxpayers. The oil companies drill. We give them money to drill there. But we get very little in return.

So I think as we have this debate, which is a very healthy one to have and I welcome it, we have to review and realign the relationship between our oil, big oil’s profits and what it means to the consumer and the taxpayer.

Yeah. She means realigning…with Big Wind!

14 percent and plunging faster.

Know your failure, hon.

Oil is an addiction the same way food, water, and oxygen are addictions. Our bodies need energy and raw materials to live, so does a nation.

I’m just sick and tired of the greenie meanies characterizing our quite natural need for energy as an “addiction” as though it were meth, crack, or some other unnecessary foreign substance.

I read somewhere, the gov’t collects almost half the price of a barrel of oil in taxes.

Nevermind, it gets taxed every time the value-added product changes hands…And again at the pump.

From the amount of money “Big Oil” leaves on the table in these bids for the “opportunity” to explore, to the money they spend on all the geophysical surveys, to the money they spend on environment impact studies… and this is before they even start to drill.

Then once they have an initial strike, they have to spend money on development wells to define the extent of the reserves and then they have to spend money on distribution to get it onshore for refining.

Again… the level of ignorance in Congress of this process and the costs involved is breathtaking.

I don’t know about the rest of you but I think I am going to go file the paperwork to start my own private oil company … then San Fran Nan can “give me money” to drill in my back yard …

If I find any oil I’ll have it refined into gasoline “for personal use only” … that way I won’t be paying taxes on it … just like the agricultural users …

I’ll drill my personal oil well right next to the “survival garden” I’m going to be planting due to the massive rise in food costs …

That garden will also help feed the poultry and livestock I’ll be having to raise now …

Once I put in all the solar panels I’ll need to run all of this I might manage to make it through a few more years …

The windmills and my solar power will run the pumps for my water well …

I’ll be broke of course … but I will have successfully moved from the 21st century to the 18th century …

Isn’t that what the Dems want us to do?

What debate?!? She closed down Congress, turned off the lights and cameras, and went on tour to pimp her failure of a book.

we have to review and realign the relationship between our oil, big oil’s profits and what it means to the consumer and the taxpayer.

In other words, “windfall” profits tax and/or nationalize the oil companies.

What does she mean we get little in return from oil companies!? How about, we put gas in our cars, so the gas station makes money. We then go on a trip, so motels make money, resturants make money, the tourist sites make money, and the place that develops our pictures make money.
Also, the mechanic makes money, since we’ll want our car serviced before we go. The tire dealer makes money, since we put more wear on our tires.

Sounds to me as if that cheaper gas is really fueling our economy more than that “Staycation” forced on us by expensive gas.

Nan is actually quite correct in this statement – we get very little from oil drilling revenue.

The land the oil is drilled from is leased – the lease is taxed.

The equipment used to drill is taxed.

The employees used to drill are taxed (several times).

The energy used to move the equipment to the site, pump the oil, remove the oil from the site, refine the oil, and transport the gas to gas stations is taxed.

There is a tax (federal and state) per barrel of oil recovered (plus royalties to landowners, which are also taxed).

There is a tax at the pump on every gallon of gas.

The US government is the largest recipient of oil revenue – we definitely get very little from them.

OTOH, Nan’s hot air could single-handedly power big wind.

The enviro-loons are trying to block construction of future coal-fired plants which use this technology.

Wouldn’t a lack of vote be preferable to passing some compromise bill (limited states, 50-mile restriction, no ANWR, lots of new taxes, etc.) that would lead Americans to think that something was being done when in fact, little or nothing beneficial was being accomplished? Let the damn things expire!

ROFL – good one. You mean you think people are going to stop being Democrats? The party of forever handouts? The party that will tell the masses everything they want to hear while reaching in their back pockets and robbing them? The people who get their facts from the MSM? The people who will not let facts get in their way? Those people?

I have found they are too stupid to know when their chain is being yanked and will pull a lever for a Dimocrap – just because “Bush lied”. Heck, forget about the Dims who lie. UGH. The best we can hope for is that we can offset the dead voters who will all vote Dimocrap with the military vote the Dimocraps will try to stop (again).
