Nan on drilling: No longer the hoax I knew
Maybe Do-Nothing Nancy should enter the Olympic diving competition. She gets a 10 for her flip-flop-flop yesterday on drilling. It is now no longer the “hoax” she knew.
What a hoot. Did she think she could sell 2 more books trying to pander and straddle like this? Nan, you’re slaying us. My sides hurt.
PELOSI: I would not. It depends how the drilling is put forth. But I don’t — that is not excluded, let me say it that way. It depends how that is proposed, if the safeguards are there. Now, mind you, 68 million acres — 10 million more acres in Alaska where they can drill. But if there’s — if we can get some great things, in terms of renewable energy resources; a renewable electricity standard; wind, solar, biofuels and the rest in that context, because if you make a decision only to go with the offshore drilling, you are increasing our dependence on fossil fuels and you will never free yourself of that addiction unless you invest in the renewable energy resources that are good for the environment, cheaper for the consumer and will reverse global warming.
And the consumer is our first responsibility. The American taxpayer owns this oil offshore, by the way. Let me make this one final point. This oil is owned by the American taxpayers. The oil companies drill. We give them money to drill there. But we get very little in return.
So I think as we have this debate, which is a very healthy one to have and I welcome it, we have to review and realign the relationship between our oil, big oil’s profits and what it means to the consumer and the taxpayer.
Yeah. She means realigning…with Big Wind!
14 percent and plunging faster.
Know your failure, hon.

How ignorant do you have to be, to believe that? That’s just nuts!
So now that she sees she is on the losing side of this issue, she wants to have a “healthy” debate on it.
This is just a show to help the democrats running for reelection in Congress.
I’ll believe it when I see a vote.
Hooray for the House Republicans! Hooray for the Philadelphia protesters at her “book”signing! The democrats, in the end, will always follow public opinion to stay in power, when trying to convince drones to follow their crazy schemes doesn’t work.
So lets see, it’s “the American Peoples” oil does that mean she’s proposing to cut all of us a check for our portion of the oil?
Didn’t think so!
What a piece of work this woman is. How can she walk straight, with spin like that?
Nanny, if that oil belongs to the American taxpayer, we want it. NOW!!!
and you don’t pay the oil companies to drill. They pay you for the privilege, and hope they can turn a profit, which you then tax like a robber baron. Get a clue.
Wow, what a stumbling, nonsensical response from Pelosi.
“We give them money to drill there. But we get very little in return.”
What?!?
[insert Olympic gymnastics/flip-flopping joke here (which hasn't already been used on B.O.)]
Still can’t see how drilling could be a hoax though, something non-existent. Even for a leftist “x is so bad it’s a hoax” should be a fairly incomprehensible argument.
She’s for ‘Drill here, Drill now’ if only she can
socializenationalize any and all oil companies..that’s what I got reading between the lines of ‘This oil is owned by the American taxpayers.’
Do the taxpayers own the air that will run her big wind turbines?
Now that Russia is trying to control the Georgia oil pipeline, maybe Pelosi can see the need for energy independence NOW.
LOL. I was thinking that exact same thing!
Pelosi may want to reconsider using Botox on a consistent basis. It seems to be tightening the cranium skin and scalp, thereby putting pressure on her brain…rendering it useless.
Oil is an addiction the same way food, water, and oxygen are addictions. Our bodies need energy and raw materials to live, so does a nation.
I’m just sick and tired of the greenie meanies characterizing our quite natural need for energy as an “addiction” as though it were meth, crack, or some other unnecessary foreign substance.
I read somewhere, the gov’t collects almost half the price of a barrel of oil in taxes.
Nevermind, it gets taxed every time the value-added product changes hands…And again at the pump.
I think, Nancy is telling a bald-faced lie…Either that, or I’m not understanding what “very little” is.
Again, Nanny Nancy is FOS this is the only place Dimocraps want to drill.
Hey Nanny I would like some syrup with my waffles, black crude, Texas tea.
The safeguards have always been their Nancy(improvements have reduced oil accidents to mere minuscule amounts coming from our oil rigs),It’s the fact that you are in the pockets of the eco-fundamentalist that has prevented this country from becoming truly “energy
independent”.
From Kathryn Lopez over at The Corner-
“A prediction from a Senate friend that rings true:
Pelosi will come back in September and offer a vote on a bill that includes “drilling.” The drilling component will be even weaker than what’s in the Gang of 10 bill, and it will be coupled with obscene amounts of new spending, taxes on oil companies and other provisions that Republicans won’t support. The headline in the next morning’s New York Times will be “Republicans block bill to provide oil drilling.””
How true is that?? I can almost see the headline and hear the Obama speech already….these people are so predictable.
Too bad we can’t divert her “hot air” and use that for some of our energy needs.
She and Harry should talk about “failed” policies – their whole tenure has been marked by failed actions.
PELOSI: you will never free yourself of that addiction unless you invest in
the renewablewhatever scam-of-the-month that we decide to force down your throat.Fixed it.
We get little in return? First off, who is “we”… if it’s the government…. she lies…. tax revenue proves that. If “we” is the populace, she’s right, but only because her ilk won’t allow us to be energy independent. OT many thanks to SeeDubya for rescuing me from internet limbo after a glitch wouldn’t let me log back in. I’m baaaack!
When was the last big oil spill. Must be a BIG OIL CONSPIRACY. I can’t recall. I think the safeguards are already in place.
Is she for real? Does she not know that the government gets about twice the amount of tax revenue than the oil companies get as net profit? ARGH!!!
Filthy liar.
We’ll solve the energy crisis if we convert every unsold copy of her book into biomass! Okay maybe not, but we might be able to power Al Gore’s house for a month or two…
Nancy needs a few tap dancing lessons from Ann Miller.
yeah, the healthiest pig in the pigpen
yashmak,
No kidding, just reading what she said made my head hurt. good grief.
what a flake!!just like b. hussien obama
anything to get elected. she should be on the us olympic diving team she’d score a 10 for her flip flop
LIAR!!!
I heard Cindy Sheehan is ruuning for office in her district.
Um, actually, we get oil.
“We” ?
Would that be “We the Gov’t” ?
Would that be “We the People” ?
Would that be “We the Taxpayer” ?
Or,
Would that be “We the Consumer” ?
“We the Gov’t” is taxing the well…”We the People,” “We the Taxpayer,” and “We the Consumer” are gettin’ the shaft.
Thanks Nancy
Two points.
One, when she says that oil belongs to the taxpayers, she means she thinks it belongs to the government, to dispense as government wills.
Two, there is absolutely no way under heaven that those closet socialists are going to willingly give up control on anything. If she intimates at all that she might back down, watch for the knife.
Don’t forget the corp. tax on on all the suppliers and subcontractors that go into drilling. It’s a major economic stimulus. Their is also a retail sales tax at the end.
I am quite sure that this woman has no idea where she is most of the time.
It’s time period.
drill here drill now.
she will still make money on the wind stock…..

Hopefully she is a liar, otherwise it’ll be what Artbyruth wrote in #16:
Why anyone takes this woman seriously is beyond me. Harry Reid as well. They march in with the majority after the 2006 elections like they are going to change everything and they have nothing to show but failure…and in Nancy’s case a really crapy selling book as well. Winter is coming…maybe it’s good for kindling?

a)And the consumer is our first responsibility.
Meaning: Whoops, did I say that? I meant fighting ‘Global Warming’ is our first priority…screw the people.
b) The American taxpayer owns this oil offshore, by the way. Let me make this one final point. This oil is owned by the American taxpayers.
Meaning: I’m going to fight for the ‘nationalization’ of ‘Big Oil’ so that those big, bad oil companies can’t ever ‘hurt’ us again with their ‘excessive profits.’ When I’m done with them they will be bankrupt, a shell of the business they once were…
As of July, it was a 13% approval rating by Democrats, 8% by Republicans and just 3% by those not affiliated with a party. Jus’ sayin’.
is it me or does nan look like she went to the same dr. as joan rivers he he he
Nan, in the words of my Project Manager, (who is a really great guy, BTW) everytime I screw up:
“You’re KILLIN’ Me!!!”
What a dolt maybe we can start a fund so we can sent her up to save the sun or another planet or something useful.
Is it just me or did Pelosi sound like Obama without a teleprompter the way she stammered around in that interview?
I’m with AJ. It made my head hurt just trying to read it.
Is it possible Nan has never heard of royalties or taxes? Not to mention all the good paying job with excellent benefits that Dems always bemoan the loss of. I truly believe she would rather see everybody going to low wage jobs on their mountain bike, like so much of her grungy constituency does in San Francisco. Keeps everybody dependent on government largess. Plus it’s good for the environment and stuff like that.
I don’t know what the offshore rate is, but on federal land it’s 12 1/2% right off the top. And then income tax on what’s left after expenses (granted at $130+ per barrel, it’s a sizable chunk of cash).
So does this mean you’re on your way back to Washington to call the house back in session? I didn’t think so.
Do a little homework before you open your mouth Nan.
lgm is going to be PISSED
lgm is going to be PISSED
Sounds a lot like our taxes here in California. Only they aren’t given, they are taken. But, without a doubt, we get very little in return.
LOL – like it neded to be said twice.
Anyhow.
…that his hoax is going buh-bye!
How did this woman get a book deal when she can’t put together a coherent sentence?
san fran nan is the BEST reason i can think of for NOT voting for b. hussien obama u mama…can you imagine nan hussien and harry running the country
AJ I left some links for you over on the ACORN thread.
I used to work in the oil industry.
I am always amazed at the breathtaking ignorance of Congress on how OCS exploration really happens. From the amount of money “Big Oil” leaves on the table in these bids for the “opportunity” to explore, to the money they spend on all the geophysical surveys, to the money they spend on environment impact studies… and this is before they even start to drill.
Then once they have an initial strike, they have to spend money on development wells to define the extent of the reserves and then they have to spend money on distribution to get it onshore for refining.
Again… the level of ignorance in Congress of this process and the costs involved is breathtaking.
What an idiot. So Pelosi wants to “realign” relationships? Nothing more than the usual liberal pass-through tax scam. Big Wind Pelosi and the other jackasses on the left seem to think everyone else is as stupid as them.

Too true, Art by Ruth!
Republicans should definitely plan for this all but given and mind-numbingly predictable move by Pelosi & Pals, with a preemptive move of their own.
After going almost the entire summer paying nearly five bucks a gallon for gas, consumers are with the Republicans right now on energy. The Republicans would be wise to not let up on this issue, by constantly reminding voters that Democrats support our continued dependence on foreign oil and are getting rich in the process.
Pelosi and/or Reid must own land with oil.
She is so obviously stupid and brain damaged that one wonders how she managed to rise to speaker – she must be particularly vile and vicious to force her way into power.I have never hear or read one word from her that exhibited the slightest trace of intelligence.
Funny,
how I get severely chastised and roundly criticized, whenever I tell someone I blindly pull the lever on a straight Republican ticket,
isn’t it.
The woman can’t string words together to form an intelligent sentence…sure sign of avoiding substance.
Waiting for lgm to dig up some insanity to justify this woman.
Unfortunately, yes, my imagination can see it, and it scares the he!! out of me.
However, I have been cursed with an imagination reserved for husbands, and fathers with daughters,
and if, well, the decision, with the hope that of, if and when, well when, it has decided, that it becomes, of and what of if.
Ma’am you sound quite confused.
I assume over the weekend you picked up a new pair of sandals.
The U.S. has more coal than any other country in the world. It’s a resource used in a process called Fisher-Tropfsch and produces gasoline or jet fuel (synthesize the coal gas/methane into liquid hydrocarbon fuels).
This technology is just about as old as Moses, proven as a method to produce gasoline or jet fuel, requires no OCS, can go to market as fast as Fisher-Tropfsch refineries can be built, is an energy source for the next 150 years. We could still drill but why. Why drill for China, India, the world, and enable big oil market supply minipulation.
This is just a way to get the gang of 10 to pass their abject absurdity.
I am waiting for that great day when Nancy manages to nationalize the oil companies and then has to explain to her union matrons why all of their pension holdings have cratered.
So, do you think Nan’s phone has been ringing like crazy from all her Dem congressional partners telling her they
are losing support?
Now, if we can just get San Fran to wake up and send this idiot home. Who do you know that would be allowed to remain in their job when there performance rating is is so bad? San Francisco – wake up – FIRE her from her job.
Gore, Pelosi, Reid, and Obama…
Hot air, spouting… global warming…
To. Many. Jokes. I dunno were to begin.
Okay, okay, that SanFranNan is an abject loon is well established.
But my question is: How can it be that the American electorate seriously looks like it’s going to restore her back to power this coming November (?!?!?). With Reid and the Dali-bama as co-conspirators, no less!
It’s like we want to prove how stupid and masochistic we can be.
Personally, I can think of two culprits:
1). The systemically leftwing idiot media; and,
2). 50+ years of degenerate liberalism.
Posters Note: Sorry for the redundant terminology above (eg, “idiot media”, “degenerate liberalism”); I get a bit wordy at times.
I believe the adage is “It’s better to be pissed off than pissed on.” Well, unless…oooohhhh…never mind.
Oh, he’ll come by, try to threadjack, obfuscate, say it is the Republicans’ fault, Bush had something to do with it, etc. You know, his normal swoop ‘n’ poop tactics.
But, I wouldn’t want to offend his delicate sensitivities by pointing those character traits out in his posts or anything.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/05/080519092205.htm NAN needs to keep up with new technology. We have ways to keep dirty coal clean.
Officially tooting my own horn. Although, I admit I never thought that Nancy would begin her backwards dance before the convention.
Say anything… Do Nothing…
She’ll still get her millions from T-Bo Pickpocket.
See? Isn’t Nan just full of surprises?
There, fixed that.
OK … I’ve had enough …
I don’t know about the rest of you but I think I am going to go file the paperwork to start my own private oil company … then San Fran Nan can “give me money” to drill in my back yard …
If I find any oil I’ll have it refined into gasoline “for personal use only” … that way I won’t be paying taxes on it … just like the agricultural users …
I’ll drill my personal oil well right next to the “survival garden” I’m going to be planting due to the massive rise in food costs …
That garden will also help feed the poultry and livestock I’ll be having to raise now …
Once I put in all the solar panels I’ll need to run all of this I might manage to make it through a few more years …
The windmills and my solar power will run the pumps for my water well …
I’ll be broke of course … but I will have successfully moved from the 21st century to the 18th century …
Isn’t that what the Dems want us to do?
/sarc off/
Correction to operator error #58: requires no
OCSoffshore drilling“So I think as we have this debate, which is a very healthy one to have and I welcome it..”
O RLY? So why are you on holiday then? There’s a bunch of Republicans waiting for you to do exactly what you just said you wanted to do. U LIAR.
Then why have you been doing everything in your power not to have it before your vacation!!!!!!!!!!
80% of us demand that it be utilized!
LIAR!
What debate?!? She closed down Congress, turned off the lights and cameras, and went on tour to pimp her failure of a book.
In other words, “windfall” profits tax and/or nationalize the oil companies.
PANDEROSI IS HARMFUL TO OUR NATION!
Actually I think she was referring to herself in the royal sense of the word “we.”
On-My-Soap-Box, #44-45, you can say that again! .smile
What does she mean we get little in return from oil companies!? How about, we put gas in our cars, so the gas station makes money. We then go on a trip, so motels make money, resturants make money, the tourist sites make money, and the place that develops our pictures make money.
Also, the mechanic makes money, since we’ll want our car serviced before we go. The tire dealer makes money, since we put more wear on our tires.
Sounds to me as if that cheaper gas is really fueling our economy more than that “Staycation” forced on us by expensive gas.
Har-dy, har-har!
I just wonder how long it will take the majority of Americans to realize that the Democrat Party is not their “friend” and vote them out on their collective behinds?
“….you are increasing our dependence on fossil fuels and you will never free yourself of that addiction ….”
You’ve got to love the way our use of a resource is considered an ADDICTION.
I guess, Nan, like the rest of us, is an addict.
What a maroon.
Nan is actually quite correct in this statement – we get very little from oil drilling revenue.
The land the oil is drilled from is leased – the lease is taxed.
The equipment used to drill is taxed.
The employees used to drill are taxed (several times).
The energy used to move the equipment to the site, pump the oil, remove the oil from the site, refine the oil, and transport the gas to gas stations is taxed.
There is a tax (federal and state) per barrel of oil recovered (plus royalties to landowners, which are also taxed).
There is a tax at the pump on every gallon of gas.
The US government is the largest recipient of oil revenue – we definitely get very little from them.
OTOH, Nan’s hot air could single-handedly power big wind.
Her stumbling and bumbling answer sounds familiar…
I wonder if she can hear her brain rattling around in there when she walks.
” very little in return “….surely she jests…..The states and Feds make more money off of big oil, than big oil.
I imagine the sound of a BB rattled around in a coffee can would be about right
This is codespeak for “we’re going to make it so frigging impossible to get a permit, you’ll never see a drop of oil!” The only thing Nan wants to safeguard are her environmental wackjob constituents.
I’ll make the correction, but you answered the question in your first sentence.
ha! dl, #70 good one…
Must have been the Paris Hilton video that finally convinced her.
That this wretched, pea-brained woman holds the third most powerful position in the federal government is a humiliation to our country beyond my ability to describe.
Maybe Osama was right (?). Maybe we don’t deserve to survive (?).
We have to sink the Gang of Ten before they engineer a compromise any eco-Marxist/Democrat would love.
The best thing our Congress can do is, nothing at all. Just let the moratoriums expire. Once that is done then set to work on a long term strategy that gives the public and the markets they need for long term planning and stability. Fat chance on that though.
Question? If 300,000 homes are powered by wind and there is no wind on a certain day, how will the electrical grid handle 300,000 homes coming online? Looks like a brown-out or black-out possibility.
Not to mention that there are probably not near as many taxes acquired from “foreign” oil……..
Actually, the level of ignorance in Congress of ANY process is breathtaking.
FamilyMan, there is also this little trick, called Flume Gas Desulfurization, which removes 95% of solids and 98% of the sulfur from the coal smoke. What you are seeing is the top of the coal stack at a 1750 mega-watt coal fired power plant in Central VA.
The enviro-loons are trying to block construction of future coal-fired plants which use this technology.
I had the unfortunate luck to stumble upon the interview with Larry King last night. A typical gushing and crooning contest with Larry congratulating her on her “best selling book”. Some recent book reviews on Amazon.com describe her “best selling book” as: “boring, weak, shallow, poorly written, and horrible”. But the best was: “Bring me a bucket”.
Nan, Nan, Nan. ROFL
Thanks for first laugh I’ve had since Russia invaded Georgia!
Since lgm has not commented. If I may comment for him?
“Duhhhh”
I’m confused about something. If the drilling restrictions are set to expire on October 1, shouldn’t the Republicans be fighting to make sure that they do? Wouldn’t a lack of vote be preferable to passing some compromise bill (limited states, 50-mile restriction, no ANWR, lots of new taxes, etc.) that would lead Americans to think that something was being done when in fact, little or nothing beneficial was being accomplished? Let the damn things expire!
On August 12th, 2008 at 10:52 am,
ROFL – good one. You mean you think people are going to stop being Democrats? The party of forever handouts? The party that will tell the masses everything they want to hear while reaching in their back pockets and robbing them? The people who get their facts from the MSM? The people who will not let facts get in their way? Those people?
I have found they are too stupid to know when their chain is being yanked and will pull a lever for a Dimocrap – just because “Bush lied”. Heck, forget about the Dims who lie. UGH. The best we can hope for is that we can offset the dead voters who will all vote Dimocrap with the military vote the Dimocraps will try to stop (again).
