Nan on drilling: No longer the hoax I knew
Maybe Do-Nothing Nancy should enter the Olympic diving competition. She gets a 10 for her flip-flop-flop yesterday on drilling. It is now no longer the “hoax” she knew.
What a hoot. Did she think she could sell 2 more books trying to pander and straddle like this? Nan, you’re slaying us. My sides hurt.
PELOSI: I would not. It depends how the drilling is put forth. But I don’t — that is not excluded, let me say it that way. It depends how that is proposed, if the safeguards are there. Now, mind you, 68 million acres — 10 million more acres in Alaska where they can drill. But if there’s — if we can get some great things, in terms of renewable energy resources; a renewable electricity standard; wind, solar, biofuels and the rest in that context, because if you make a decision only to go with the offshore drilling, you are increasing our dependence on fossil fuels and you will never free yourself of that addiction unless you invest in the renewable energy resources that are good for the environment, cheaper for the consumer and will reverse global warming.
And the consumer is our first responsibility. The American taxpayer owns this oil offshore, by the way. Let me make this one final point. This oil is owned by the American taxpayers. The oil companies drill. We give them money to drill there. But we get very little in return.
So I think as we have this debate, which is a very healthy one to have and I welcome it, we have to review and realign the relationship between our oil, big oil’s profits and what it means to the consumer and the taxpayer.
Yeah. She means realigning…with Big Wind!
14 percent and plunging faster.
Know your failure, hon.

This KevoTron is a troll. This board needs an “ignore” feature.
Of all the things that make you say “Ewwwwwww”… Sure she “supports” the possibility of drilling now, sure she may submit a bill on her return…But what will her actions be come after election day?
I can appreciate any opposing viewpoint as long as it is presented with conviction and not littered with personal attacks. Trying to denigrate Michelle is unwarranted and senseless. Besides, I bet she has accomplished much more in her chosen endeavor than you have or ever will. If you don’t like her point of view, then why don’t you just ooze your way back over to Dumba$$ Under-achievers and cavort with your own kind. If you want to debate issues at hand, I am ready and more than able to accommodate you. If not, take a hike.
Partially, but also his complete lack of manners. He was invited into Michelle’s home and promptly proceeded to insult our hostess and everybody else who posts here. Kind of like the stray dog you let into your house, who promptly “salutes” everything it can.
I just did a little, and I mean less than 15 minutes, research on solar power vs. nuclear power. According to the New American the maximum, which is far more than the recoverable, amount of solar power available per acre in Albuquerque, NM, a region of the country blessed with a lot of sunshine, is 970 kW/acre.
The largest nuclear power plant in the US is the Palo Verde plant in AZ. It covers 4,000 acres and produces 3.2 GW from its three reactors.
Now, to get that same 3.2 GW from a solar array operating at 100% (a physical impossibility) the solar plant would require a little less than the same 4000 acres, ~3,300. This sounds like a great deal but in reality the physical maximum efficiency of modern solar cells only allows a conversion rate of about 10%. “The problem of maximizing power from sunlight has been known for at least 30 years, and is primarily one of physical limitations, not engineering technology.”
So this 3,300 acres in reality would require 33,000 acres to produce the same 3.2 GW as a nuclear power plant. That also assumes the entire 33,000 acres is covered, which, again is impossible. There needs to be spacing for panel movement, personnel, and probably vehicle traffic. So lets conservatively say to generate 3.2 GW during the peak sunshine hours would require 35,000 acres. That’s a lot of acreage for a plant that would only be able to produce electricity for 8-10 hours on a good sunny summer day.
I wish the eco-Marxists would expend as much energy doing research into the physics of wind and solar as they do agitating for it.
It would appear that KevoTron practices on other sites to hone his *cough* skills, before coming here to bash our hostess. You have to love the irony of that avatar he chose on that site.
…
MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!
Is that the best he’s got?
I think we should go recruit some 6 year olds to debate with him…at least it seems it would be more fair.
Poster child for liberalism as not only a mental disorder, but a social disfunction as well.
Do You Want To Help Unseat A House Democrat?
I don’t need to do the math for wind energy, you can find it here. Suffice it to say the 3.2 GW in the previous solar example I posted would require an area measured in hundreds of square miles, not square acres.
I don’t understand, if it’s the people’s oil and 70% of us say lets drill to get it, how is it that a few wacko’s can hold it all up?
LIBERALISM IS A MENTAL DISORDER
Dr. Michael Savage
Oh, geez. He has “followers” too.
Well…well. He posts at Wonkette. Looks like he likes to bash our hostess there too. Oh. And, he’s from Seattle.
Geez. KevoTron really has a thing for Michelle. If she has ever had a stalker, he might be a good lead to give the police.
By the way, 30 and Soap, he has a thing for you too.
The Democrats have had control of the Congress for generations and have yet to produce anything substantial towards an energy policy besides restricting exploration in some areas and raising taxes on energy sources in order to fatten federal coffers. What is their plan? Where is the plan to create incentives for investment for energy companies and Wall Street? A plan with incentives, not mandates. If the incentives are there, the market will develop new technologies and implement them in such a manner that will allow affordable access to the average person. Government mandates typically increase cost of goods and services and result in poor output and stagnant growth in the private sector. Let’s not throw out the baby with the bathwater, though and give up on utilizing resources at hand. Those would include oil from shale and drilling in other areas like ANWAR. How about both sides of the aisle come together and get something going that will favor all Americans and not just Beltway lobbyists.
She’s probably just intentionally trying to get the media and us to think she’ll back down, but has no real intention to allow any oil drilling.
The oil companies drill. We give them money to drill there. But we get very little in return.
Since this makes no sense maybe she meant to say that she has some money of her own invested in Big Oil (like most Americans!) and is disappointed with the return on her investment.
What makes you think she wrote the book? In Democrat-land it takes a village to write a book (although HRC will never admit it).

Yes, CINDY SHEEHAN has just qualified to be on the ballot as an Independent to run against Nancy Pelosi in California’s 8th Congressional District. See http://www.CindyForCongress.org for more info.
DANA WALSH is a strong Republican candidate running against Nancy Pelosi. Please see http://www.DanaWalshForCongress.com for more information about Dana.
Please encourage everybody you know in San Francisco to vote for anybody other than Nancy Pelosi!
Thanks abstract. Any idea regarding how much of the “new oil” would stay here?
Danish, see my prior post. I’m no fan of Pelosi, but I think she’s referring to the point I raise in my prior comment. Not that we shouldn’t drill regardless, but it’s a valid and important question.
I believe it when I see a vote on the Republican energy bill. No lib amendments.
SanFranNan has been drilling us for 2 years and left town saying drilling was a hoax—she got that right. Now she wants to tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in the middle of the Russian aggression crisis–what a nut job.
Sure thing.
My best educated guess…45%
Sad.
I’ll see if i can do some research in a sec and get a better number and see if my guess is even close.
barry f. #206
good work, what a flippin loser he is.
I listened to 2nd District(Va) Rep. Drake this morning, on the radio. Pelosi knows that there is a majority for the energy act. That’s why she won’t permit it on the floor for a vote. Everytime something comes up, that she doesn’t like, she either calls for recess, or adjourns for the day. All I see is her scrambling in double-talk to protect herself. What a worthless Speaker for this country and the taxpayers.
K, i was a bit off.
The forbes link cached but wont link right and open, says 33% leaves our shores for other place.
i stand corrected on that.
Barry,
I have a groupie! Now I know how Michelle feels!!

He must have had to make the 4:00 o’clock shift at Starbucks.
At least the adults can have a conversation now.
abstractmind,
I don’t know if you saw it but I posted those links in the other energy thread. I didn’t want you to miss them!
His follower list reads like a collection of Kos rejects. Inconsequential.
Wait just a freakin minute.
I want followers. Or a stalker! Something! ROFL
exactly, and will go down as the worst ever. hands down.
Abstract, be careful they may suck you into that “Big O” as in zero accomplishment cult.
Their is nothing wrong with Pelosi that Dr. Kevorkian couldn’t fix.
DOH
Can i just have some without the O? ROFL
They couldnt handle, or afford me. I’d have them crying like small children in 10 minutes
And thats if i go slow enough for them to understand
Just by saying she’d consider it, the price dropped. By stating she’d consider opening the reserves, the price dropped again. And it didn’t take ten years!
Way to go Nan, the first intelligent thing I’ve EVER heard you say. I’m still waiting for “goodbye”! (That would be the second…)
She’s not only going to save the planet, she’s going to REVERSE global warming. “Behold! Even the wind and the sea obey her”.
Pelosi is so strange. She acts like drilling is some esoteric experiment, rather than the only way to get oil. We’re dying for affordable energy but she won’t allow discussion of it because she’s “saving the planet”. She’s acting like the crazy syphilitic dictator who orders everyone to wear a flower in their hair on pain of death. She’s kooky.
Thoughts on KevoTron: Epic Fail. I am convinced that MM.com mods set up these dummy posts to make liberals look bad. It’s a good tactic, but a rather wicked concept. These posts don’t pass the smell test for me. I don’t think they’re legit.
While the concern sockpuppet is not uncommon on the web, I disagree with you here. Do you really believe the mods have the time or inclination to do this? For what purpose? …and why all of the sudden now?
Besides which, as (I believe) Barry F. pointed out, the “KevoTron” alias is used at another site which bashes on Michelle.
No, mistressjustice, I believe there’s quite enough bored people out there (on both sides of the political spectrum) that do this kind of thing.
…besides which, if the Mods were so inclined to go to that trouble, I would think that they would be much more aggressive in weeding out many other posts (and posters) that we have seen slide by the rules of common decency many times.
Pelosi is, truly, too stupid to do her job. It’s painful to endure ignorance at that level of government.
Heh.
“Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota) says she plans to return to Washington to join in the protest.”
“[Pelosi] is committed to her global warming fanaticism to the point where she has said that she’s just trying to save the planet. We all know that someone did that over 2,000 years ago…we didn’t need Nancy Pelosi to do that”
“She is committed to not allowing any drilling,” the Republican lawmaker continues. “She, [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid, and also the Democrat [sic] presidential presumptive nominee Barack Obama are all committed to no new energy, whether it comes from natural gas, oil, or coal, or nuclear power.”
(from onenewsnow.com)
An article in yesterday’s WSJ, which should be getting more attention, discussed the steep drop in natural gas prices because of all the increased drilling going on here in the US. Teh declines have been so steep that some producers may cut back on production. The new gas is coming from shale formations.
Sorry I missed that Barry F. post. Maybe you’re right about bored people. The posts just look really bizarre, like they’re trying too hard or something. Although, the styles differed, I got the same feeling from Steve456, Libocrat, and Buckaroo. Oh well, I guess there’s no sense in trying to figure what makes people like KevoTron tick.
Posted once – posting again. Someone pass along to Pelosi.

What do we do then when ths sun goes down?
“you are increasing our dependence on fossil fuels and you will never free yourself of that addiction unless you invest in the renewable energy resources that are good for the environment, cheaper for the consumer and will reverse global warming.” Quote from San Fran Nan!
This woman could not get anymore stupid if she had a lobotomy. We are dependent on fossil fuels. They fuel the world economy. I am not addicted to oil. I don’t drink it, smoke it, chew it. Renewable resources is a bunch of liberal bs. And global warming–give me a break! According to the scientists I read we have global cooling. What is wrong with oil? Nothing! Why has it been demonized? The liberals need a propaganda issue. She is truly one sick person.
DerKrieger (#238),
I visited Palo Verde on a field trip with my undergraduate class in 1997. It was a neat trip! It should be noted that of the 4,000 acres, most of it is empty buffer space. They could conceivably double it’s capacity without needing to double it’s area, unlike solar.
Good post, BTW!
Anyone else catch this?

lol @ misstress, get a grip. paranoia self destroya….. how lame was that post? #232…. ahahahaahahhahahah
Thanks for the info abstract.
We stub our toes, fumble around in the dark, and freeze our butts off in the winter.
But would that not lead to a “windfall profit” for the BIG Wax and Wick Corporations?
Evil candlemakers need to pay more taxes too!

No sirree! Darkness and cold for us pesky humans, because GAIA DEMANDS IT!!
only if you place a spoon over the flame. By the way…Is Gaia the root cognate for ALGORE or SSanFranNan?
Actually, I think Media Attention and Soros Moolah is what they worship.
That or Satan.
What? the consumer comes first?? Not in your mind, we all know you and only you comes first in anything, we only exist to labor and pay you!!!
The american taxpayer wons this oil?? Really? then why are we not allowed access to it? And why not a peep when the chicoms drill OUR oil off the Florida coast???
allrsn I agree where the heck is our cut of the off shore oil reserves we own. Are the Democrats keeping it in the same trust account they keep Social Security? Oh! Wait they put that one in the General Fund and blew it thanks to irresponsible spending bills in cahoots with the GOP too.

I’m still confused. If the restrictions are set to expire in October, and George Bush is in favor of eliminating them, then it should be a shoo-in. If the do-nothing Congress somehow becomes a do-something Congress and extends the restrictions, won’t Bush simply veto the legislation? If so, then I don’t understand why we should be demanding a vote on a compromise bill that gets us something much less/worse.
Maybe Nancy’s next book, after she completes Remedial Speech, should be “The 1,000,000 Steps In Drilling For Oil: The Liberal Way”.
I am so frustrated by this. Russia is going to war for oil and we can’t even vote. Wait til people in the east and north have to heat their homes. I truly fear for this country.
Okay Nan, since we, the American taxpayers, own the oil, we demand we drill!
MM,
I know you’re not watching the Olympics, but FYI: they don’t score diving on that 10 scale anymore. (Nor in gymnastics.)
Well I would say with your head so far up your ars no tellin what your smellin.

I wlll remember the paranoia self-destroya line next time you conservatives accuse some “troll” of impersonating a conservative to make this blog look bad.
hahahahahahahahaha
I’m not so sure KevoTron is’nt Steve456 and for the other two I did’nt pay much attention to them, now lgm I have alot of fun spoofing him, as for telling troll’s that they are impersonating conservatives, I don’t I can tell the difference most of the time.
I’ll give you this MJ you do hang around and debate on the subject matter, so I don’t honestly think I can call you a troll a liberal yes troll not so much.
Didn’t the oil companies pay like 27 million in taxes last year? I guess that’s nuttin’ according to Miss Nan, that San Franfreako flake.
nothing left to say except piglosi is a disgrace to the office and about one of the dumbest Speakers in history….

That’s Billion, with a “B”, just enough to bail out the housing lenders…
I have at hand several dictonaries, a thesaurus and set of encylopedias. I cannot fine words to adequatley describe the abysmal ignorance of this woman.
Does she really think “we pay them to drill” or is she spinning this premise hoping to gain votes from the equally ignorant?
lonewolf re: “…words to adequatley describe the abysmal ignorance of this woman.”
Didn’t you mean abysmal arrogance, hoping to gain votes from the ignorant?
juss askin.
ignorance implies innocence.
Awe, let’s hug it out, let’s hug it out.
Nah, really, thanks. I guess I’ll own the liberal label well enough.
But we get very little in return?????
How about a standard of living and lifestyle that is unequaled anywhere else in the world? How about increasing life expectancies because of technological developments and discoveries powered by energy — petroleum-based energy?
What an absolute MORON!
Yep – I visited with my dad back in 1980. He was a a startup engineer with Bechtel, the contractor that built the place.
Not if it’s invincible ignorance.
Crude Awakening.
I think many of you do not understand San Fran Nan. She is a San Francisco Liberal representing one of the most liberal voting blocks in America. They have a member of the board of supervisors, Sandoval I think, that is representative of the San Fran attitude that thinks America sucks. They hate fleet week for example. They hate our military. San Fran Nan is their hero!
She may say she is for drilling but it will come with conditions that make no sense. Like her views and like her constitutes. She is not to be trusted. She is a socialist, she is speaker of the house and she is really a terrible representative of the United States and the citizens of the United States. Watch her language for she is a socialist or worse.
Libs don’t need help to look bad. They do a fine job on their own.
San Fran Nana, a bottomless pit of ignorance.
Geesh, it’s perfect that she ended up as our Speaker of the House of low ratings.
Exactly! The only domestic drilling bill Nine-Percent-Nan will approve is one that doesn’t actually allow any drilling, but enables her to pretend like she isn’t blocking drilling. Which just so happens to be Obama’s strategy as well.
Now here is another issue just waiting for Republicans… biofuels have been a DISASTER! They are the major cause of the worldwide food crisis, they are responsible for 75% of the hike in food prices, people are rioting, people are going hungry, farmers are growing food for liberals gas tanks instead of for people, they are worse for the environment, rainforests are being razed to plant crops to grow for biofuels, species like the orangutan are on the verge of extinction, and they may even take more energy to produce than they give in MPG…. yet here the Democrats are still calling for more. Republicans should jump all over this.
NO ONE is suggesting we only go with drilling.
They ARENT all good for the environment, NONE of them are cheaper for the consumer, or we’d be using them already, and sorry Nan, they aint gonna reverse global warming (and the globe has been cooling the last 10 years anyway!)
You don’t give them a dime! you don’t have any money! You simply confiscate LESS of what you are taking from them. You are still confiscating billions more than they make in profit, and we GET an economy that is the envy of the world, which runs on oil, in return.
The hell you do! You rip the microphones out of peoples hands while theyre talking, turn off the lights and order the cameras shut down precisely to stop the debate from happening!
I really loathe Nine-Percent-Nan. The woman lies more in one sentence than President Bush has in his entire presidency.
Because should Obama take the White House they could simply reinstate the ban in January, while passing a law allowing drilling would last much longer.
Of course Nine Percent Nancy has no intention of passing any drilling bill that actually allows drilling where there is oil.
What she fails to realize is that the point is gaining energy independence from foreign countries. If, as she says the tax payers own the oil fields, shouldn’t it be up to us to decide if we let the oil companies drill there? I live in New Jersey and on the local radio this morning they said that 56% of NJ’s population are in favor of drilling offshore. Of course our dumbocrat governor opposes it. We are a government of the people, when are these idiots going to start listening to us. Here’s to a GOP run Govt in November. At least THEY listen to us.
I’ll hug ya MJ..and we can sing Kumbayah (sp?) around a campfire and make smores.
9%. Found it here. Don’t be so lazy.
Good question though. You get an A.
