Adviser urged Hillary to paint Obama as “Fundamentally Foreign”
There’s a bumper sticker for you! Back in March, Hillary campaign strategist Mark Penn knew his candidate was in trouble and urged that Hillary get serious about exploiting Obama’s “citizen of the world” background:
The March 19, 2007, memo included a section titled “Lack of American Roots,” in which Penn recommended making an issue of Obama’s “diverse, multicultural” upbringing. Obama was born in Hawaii and spent part of his childhood in Indonesia before returning to Hawaii to live with his grandparents.
Obama’s “roots to basic American values and culture are at best limited,” Penn wrote. “I cannot imagine America electing a president during a time of war who is not at his center fundamentally American in his thinking and his values.”
Mmmm…tasty red meat.
Hillary decided to focus on Obama’s inexperience instead, which I suppose was a loser for her since her own executive experience was pretty limited as well and her Senatorial experience wasn’t much longer than Obama’s. (Which is probably why she felt the need to embellish it with dramatic accounts of her perilous trip to Tuzla.)
Had she gone with the “fundamentally foreign” attack instead, we may have had a different slate of candidates today. She didn’t eschew it entirely, though…
Clinton did adopt another of Penn’s suggestions from the memo: that she emphasize that she was born in “the middle of America to the middle class in the middle of the last century.” This would be another way, Penn said, to draw a contrast with Obama’s upbringing “without turning negative” — and Clinton often repeated such phrases on the campaign trail.
I’ll skirt the edges of fair-use to leave you with another Mark Penn gem. It’s too good an insight into what Democrats were really thinking about the empty suit that ended up as their nominee:
Penn recommended invoking the fiery language that the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., Obama’s longtime pastor, had used in sermons.
“Many people . . . believe under the surface that 20 years sitting there with Goddamn America would make [Obama] unelectable by itself,” Penn wrote. “What does that say about his leadership that he never left or complained?”
That convention’s going to be awkward, isn’t it? I can’t wait.

Hillary’s Dumocrat strategist seems to have a better plan against Obama than the GOP does. WTF? I personally believe Obama’s “Citizen of the World” crap can be used against him. While that may play well to Europeans who don’t like the USA, I’d bet you dollars to donuts that most Americans want a citizen of the United States as their president — not some self-professed “citizen” of some other geographical or political body, whether it be the World, North America, the Western Hemisphere, Star Fleet, Krypton, etc.
That strategy would have worked, too. I am convinced that many Americans are uncomfortable with him, not because of his race, but because he just doesn’t come across as a regular American. Picture a black candidate from, say, Atlanta, who went to public schools and never left the country until spring break in Mexico during college. A person who attended a mainstream Baptist or AME church, went to a state university — that would be someone most Americans would feel comfortable with.
Clinton was to afraid of the RACIST label to really push obama hard.
I believe that Hillary is having Weird Al Yankovich take David Bowie’s tune “Young Americans” and turn it into “Un-Americans.” They’ll play it whenever they can.

I heard on F & F this morning (or maybe it was O’reilly last night) that some Hill supporters are suggesting that had the Edwards affair been exposed last December when people knew about it, Hillary would have won Iowa. I’m not sure of the logic (as I wasn’t paying attention), but it tells me they aren’t giving up.
And I’m still hearing things about her “people” wanting a roll call at convention. That doesn’t sound like unity to me.

Mark Penn is honest. When MSM predicted a Kerry Victory in 2004, he is the one predicted correctly.
There is another way to look at this story. Mark Penn wanted her to run a sleazy campaign based on racism and inuendo rather than issues. Hillary Clinton refused. There were places she was not willing to go to become President.
Of only McCain has Hillary Clinton’s scruples and honor. His campaign explicitly questions Obama’s patriotism. His ads show white women giggling about Obama — the “uppity” card.
There’s a story of Eleonore Roosevelt confronted by a flasher. She took a look at him and said: “Sir, you have nothing to be proud of.” We could say the same about McCain’s campaign.
Jbgood, I agree. She and Bill want the White House back, and will stop at nothing to attain it…which is why I am going to be watching every second of their convention! It’ll either be rioting in the streets, or a total whackjob circus…more likely a bit of both! I can hardly wait! I hope undecideds will be watching with as much eagerness as us news junkies. They’ll learn that the Dumocraps are in total disarray, and should not be allowed to be dog-catchers!

She suspended her campaign rather than end it so that she could continue to raise funds to pay down as much debt as possible. Edwards “suspended” his campaign too. As does almost every single candidate. Nothing sinister. Sorry.

This Convention is going to be destroyed simply because Mrs. Clinton and her supporters don’t get it; The election is suppose to be about pushing your party’s ideals and agenda(the reason you joined a political party in the first place). If you lose, it is only right to help the one in your party get elected. Time for you to start doing that. We don’t need another Carter-Kennedy situation on our hands.
Which is why I registered independant. This actualy meant I couldn’t vote in the republican primary but could in the democratic one.
