Update: More horrible news. Arkansas Democrat Party chairman Bill Gwatney has died of the gunshot wounds.
Statement from the DNC: “Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, DNC Vice Chair Lottie Shackelford, and former mayor of Little Rock, and Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer, the President of the Association of State Democratic Chairs, issued the following statement on the passing of Arkansas Democratic Party Chair Bill Gwatney:
“On behalf of the Democratic Party our thoughts and prayers are with Chairman Gwatney’s family and friends and the extended Democratic family in Arkansas. With this senseless act of violence we have lost a good friend and honorable man. Bill will be remembered for his hard work and dedication to the Party, and he will be sorely missed.”
The suspect was shot and killed.

The Arkansas Democrat Party chairman was shot today at his office in a horrible attack and is in critical condition. There is scant information about the unhinged shooter, but it seems he was disgruntled over losing his job. There is no indication of his political affiliations, his ideology, or his motives for singling out the Democrat Party chairman.
No matter. I’m already getting blamed for the incident.

That’s a real shame, alaskangrizzly. I lived in Searcy for many years. It’s a pretty conservative town, but most people are fairly conservative in White County, regardless of party.

Local reports here in Arkansas are saying the Shooter was a disgruntled man who had recently lost his job. Also, (According to out KTHV Affiliate) was reported to have made threats at the Ark State Baptist HQ. Sounds like a guy who wanted to commit suicide by Police response.

Last time I looked, the left is the one who consistently resorts to violence. There’s plenty of evidence to back that up. I’m here in Little Rock where the shooting occurred. In fact, I was in a stall at a Sonic restuarant listening to Rush when they interrupted him with the news bulletin. My first thought was how conservatives would be blamed as they were in the Oklahoma City bombing. This without anyone knowing anything about the shooter.
Something the nutroots will miss – being a Democrat in Arkansas is not like being a Democrat in California or New York. Most of our Democratic state office holders are moderate to conservative. The Republican party here occasionally produces a Mike Huckabee, but by and large struggles to compete. The Democrats control the state and are voted in by a population who still see evil in Republicans even though their personal beliefs align more closely with the GOP. They are called yellow dog Democrats and we have lots of them.
Given that, I don’t think the lefty bloggers know anything about people here. I seriously doubt the shooter has any party affiliation. We’ll wait and see.
