I shot the Arkansas Democrat Party chairman; Update: Gwatney dies of injuries
Update: More horrible news. Arkansas Democrat Party chairman Bill Gwatney has died of the gunshot wounds.
Statement from the DNC: “Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, DNC Vice Chair Lottie Shackelford, and former mayor of Little Rock, and Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer, the President of the Association of State Democratic Chairs, issued the following statement on the passing of Arkansas Democratic Party Chair Bill Gwatney:
“On behalf of the Democratic Party our thoughts and prayers are with Chairman Gwatney’s family and friends and the extended Democratic family in Arkansas. With this senseless act of violence we have lost a good friend and honorable man. Bill will be remembered for his hard work and dedication to the Party, and he will be sorely missed.”
The suspect was shot and killed.

The Arkansas Democrat Party chairman was shot today at his office in a horrible attack and is in critical condition. There is scant information about the unhinged shooter, but it seems he was disgruntled over losing his job. There is no indication of his political affiliations, his ideology, or his motives for singling out the Democrat Party chairman.
No matter. I’m already getting blamed for the incident.

How does little Greggy even know the shooter’s party affiliation, or even if the shooting was politically motivated? Bill Gwatney and his brother here in Memphis are both run car dealerships. The shooter mentioned that he had lost his job and was looking for employment. If Greggo’s mind were any less shallow, I don’t think they could fit a layer of atoms into it.
I have already been contacted by artvandelay3@verizon.net and he informed me that no less than two of my “followers” have “threatened him physically”. All units, on my command…SWARM! SWARM!

Our condolences and prayers to Mr. Gwatney’s family and friends the victim of another nut job whom we can only hope is earning his just reward in the deepest darkest pit of eternal torment. I am really appalled at the comments from the loony left sites looking for any conservative such as our lovely hostess, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and the usual suspects to blame for this tragic crime.

the people who try to blame Conservatives (be it Michelle or someone else) for any act of craziness are often the very ones who spew the hate and vitriol that create the atmosphere conducive for these kinds of acts.
I do not agree with the e-mailer that conservative talk hosts or bloggers contributed to the actions of the shooter in today’s tragedy in Arkansas.
But I have to say, I strongly disagree with the e-mailer’s e-mail address and name being revealed on this blog.
I know, Michelle, it is your right to do so – (I think)- but – in the end – it’s just not right. (my opinion)
Everyone, this is a terrible tragedy that has occurred today. People react emotionally to these things. Things have been said and done here – on both sides – that I’m not proud of at all.
If anyone – somehow politicizes today’s tragedy – and it has offended you. I urge you – to stop right there!
Pray for the real victim and his family and friends of this tragedy.

According to Little Rock KTHV TV News: “Police have identified the suspect in the shooting of Democratic state party chairman Bill Gwatney as 50-year-old Timothy Dale Johnson of Searcy. Today’s THV has learned that Johnson had a run-in with his employer at Target Wednesday morning.”

I don’t get it. Timothy Johnson “had just been fired from a Target store” earlier for “writing graffiti on a store wall?” So, what was his beef with Bill Gwatney? He was fired at Target before 8:00am and then went to the Demcrat’s headquarters, just before noon and did this. This just doesn’t make sense.

I agree. The media coverage is often unfair when it comes to anything political. That is, if there is even a whiff of this being politically motivated it’ll be all over the place. If the shoe was on the other foot and it was a Republican that was killed likely the news will be saying “Oh, he was disturbed.”
In any event:
He was clearly disturbed whether or not his gnarled little mind was in some way enamored with politics or not. For all we know his hamster could have told him to do it! On top of that, it’s all very fortunate that the court system won’t have to go through the legal dance to get this guy put to death or thrown in jail forever, since the wacko opened fire on police officers. Justice served.
As far as our tendentious friend Greg, excuse the French, but F— him. Reminds me of a George Carlin observation from the 70s when there were TV ads for “Scope” brand mouthwash wherein some unknown person (dubbed “The Green Phantom”, due the mouthwashes’ color) would gift someone who really needed it with a bottle of Scope.
Carlin mused something like that could just be the one last little straw (getting the anonymously sent mouthwash)that drives some loony totally over the edge. So the nut gets a gun, shoots a dozen people and “then they’ll blame it on Marine training”.
Holy crap I know that guy! I mean, don’t get me wrong, we weren’t drinking buddies or anything. But for a year and a half I ran Target dedicated out of the DC 20 minutes from the store he worked in. I was in that store at least two to three times a week. Nine times out of ten he was in the back room when I was dropping a trailer there. Always managed to take a few minutes to chat with the guys on the dock.
Something I didn’t know-and still don’t understand-till I was reading the Arkansas Times blog, he lived in Searcy but worked in Conway? That’s a pretty fair commute. I have worked in both, but it was while I was in a small town half-way between the two. 30 minutes one way, 40 the other.
Damn shame all this. Even though Gwatney was a Democrat, and a car salesmen, people I know who have had dealings with him always spoke highly of him. He seemed a decent fellow. My thoughts are with his family.
