I shot the Arkansas Democrat Party chairman; Update: Gwatney dies of injuries

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 13, 2008 03:20 PM

Update: More horrible news. Arkansas Democrat Party chairman Bill Gwatney has died of the gunshot wounds.

Statement from the DNC: “Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, DNC Vice Chair Lottie Shackelford, and former mayor of Little Rock, and Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer, the President of the Association of State Democratic Chairs, issued the following statement on the passing of Arkansas Democratic Party Chair Bill Gwatney:

“On behalf of the Democratic Party our thoughts and prayers are with Chairman Gwatney’s family and friends and the extended Democratic family in Arkansas. With this senseless act of violence we have lost a good friend and honorable man. Bill will be remembered for his hard work and dedication to the Party, and he will be sorely missed.”

The suspect was shot and killed.

Original post 3:20pm Eastern.

The Arkansas Democrat Party chairman was shot today at his office in a horrible attack and is in critical condition. There is scant information about the unhinged shooter, but it seems he was disgruntled over losing his job. There is no indication of his political affiliations, his ideology, or his motives for singling out the Democrat Party chairman.

No matter. I’m already getting blamed for the incident.

Yeah, I did it:

Once again the hate you and folks like Hannity spew has caused another right wing nut to resort to violence. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26181389/ What you do is nothing less than starting a riot and you should be held accountable. You should be in jail. Your hate turns people to murder.

I am also guilty of last month’s shooting at a Knoxville church, for which a nutroots blogger similarly says I need to be held “accountable.”

For what? For blogging, writing columns, and authoring books with which they disagree.

Such stalwart, principled champions of free speech they are.

How does little Greggy even know the shooter’s party affiliation, or even if the shooting was politically motivated? Bill Gwatney and his brother here in Memphis are both run car dealerships. The shooter mentioned that he had lost his job and was looking for employment. If Greggo’s mind were any less shallow, I don’t think they could fit a layer of atoms into it.

If you’re going to make an accusation like that, you better have the evidence to support it. Otherwise, you’re nothing but an unhinged lunatic with too much time and too much hate.

I’m glad you brought this to our attention, though. It’s terrible news but we need to know about it so we can take the right steps in the future to make sure it doesn’t happen again. It’s good to know you care! Thanks!

Just where in the story does it say anything about staffs’ actions? The shooter came into the office, asked to speak with Gwatney, the secretary denied the request, so he pushed his way into the office and shot the man. Where is the quick thinking?

Obama just makes stuff up as he goes.

    Hey Greg

Did you go to school to be stupid or is it just a family trait? “Hate” is just about anything you sissy ass Liberals disagree with, isn’t it? I have seen Michelle Malkin and Sean Hannity call out a lot of people but I have never seen them spew hate or call for violence. I could give you a couple of dozen examples of Liberals doing so such as Paul Begala, Arianna Huffington and the Louisiana white trash James Carville-I dragged a dollar bill through a trailer court-James Carville.

Tell me sissy boy who was it that threatened violence against Bill Richardson for supporting Barack Obama? Again, the Louisiana white trash – James Carville.Yes sissy boy, there is a lot of hate, and most of it is your fault for being such a sissy. Read the papers sissy boy and you will find it is you Liberals who spew the most hate, plant the most bombs, burn the most building and generally make yourselves a pain in the ass.Grow up.

As least you didn’t call Mrs. Malkin ‘chink’ as your left wing heros do. Racial slurs are Hate, sissy boy-Liberals use racial slurs, sissy boy.

    Have a nice day (:

Greg is a brave little keyboard terrorist. How much you wanna bet he lives with his Mom and looks like Tom from Accountable America?

    AN,

You are right. These people need to be called on their crap. I’ve let it go for too long.

I didn’t attack the guy, but I told Greggie to stop attacking people with different viewpoints from his. If his ideas were truly better, he could articulate them as opposed cursing and wishing death on people.

Secondly don’t go off half cocked before all the facts of the shooting came in.

I have a couple of canned moonbat emails I use.

I don’t get it. Timothy Johnson “had just been fired from a Target store” earlier for “writing graffiti on a store wall?” So, what was his beef with Bill Gwatney? He was fired at Target before 8:00am and then went to the Demcrat’s headquarters, just before noon and did this. This just doesn’t make sense.

This is an obvious case of some wacko. Who cares what the motivation was?

I agree. The media coverage is often unfair when it comes to anything political. That is, if there is even a whiff of this being politically motivated it’ll be all over the place. If the shoe was on the other foot and it was a Republican that was killed likely the news will be saying “Oh, he was disturbed.”

    In any event:

He was clearly disturbed whether or not his gnarled little mind was in some way enamored with politics or not. For all we know his hamster could have told him to do it! On top of that, it’s all very fortunate that the court system won’t have to go through the legal dance to get this guy put to death or thrown in jail forever, since the wacko opened fire on police officers. Justice served.

As far as our tendentious friend Greg, excuse the French, but F— him. I understand why MM posted his email address and I guess it’s not terrible, (after all, she’s not giving out his home address) but I am not sure I’d waste my time with him, it’s not like getting a legion of angry / thoughtful / elfin emails is going to make him say, “Gee, I was being a bit of an a$$hat.”

Best wishes to the Gwatney’s family.

Our sympathy to the Gwatney family and friends. A good man was taken before his time.

As for the charges against Michelle and others, “I shot the sherrif, but I did not shoot the deputy” comes to mind.

Yup, ZA, some people are just deranged, evil, nuts or whatever you wanna call it and they snap.

Reminds me of a George Carlin observation from the 70s when there were TV ads for “Scope” brand mouthwash wherein some unknown person (dubbed “The Green Phantom”, due the mouthwashes’ color) would gift someone who really needed it with a bottle of Scope.

Carlin mused something like that could just be the one last little straw (getting the anonymously sent mouthwash)that drives some loony totally over the edge. So the nut gets a gun, shoots a dozen people and “then they’ll blame it on Marine training”.

Holy crap I know that guy! I mean, don’t get me wrong, we weren’t drinking buddies or anything. But for a year and a half I ran Target dedicated out of the DC 20 minutes from the store he worked in. I was in that store at least two to three times a week. Nine times out of ten he was in the back room when I was dropping a trailer there. Always managed to take a few minutes to chat with the guys on the dock.

Something I didn’t know-and still don’t understand-till I was reading the Arkansas Times blog, he lived in Searcy but worked in Conway? That’s a pretty fair commute. I have worked in both, but it was while I was in a small town half-way between the two. 30 minutes one way, 40 the other.

Damn shame all this. Even though Gwatney was a Democrat, and a car salesmen, people I know who have had dealings with him always spoke highly of him. He seemed a decent fellow. My thoughts are with his family.

Same old, same old. Socialist liberal democrats and their extremist supporters love to blame conservatives and republicans for everything that happens.

They bark and howl and declare themselves as the only group speaking THE TRUTH. They are ALWAYS right on every issue and every cause. Anyone that disagrees with them is called stupid, uneducated, hateful, racist, ignorant, uncaring, etc. Instead of debating they prefer to shout over you or shut you up completely.

It’s one extreme after another extreme followed by another extreme. From sexual perversions of homosexuality to murdering the unborn to refusing to obey our federal laws. That’s how you end up with the radical extremist groups we see today in pink, covered in fake blood, aluminum foil on their heads. They literally hate our soldiers, hate our country, hate our love of life and are desperately eager to see the United States fall.

Sadly too many Americans don’t care and it has allowed these people to take over our country under the wings of the ACLU and activist judges who are anti-God and anti-American .
