Out on a limb here, but nobody, even mickey kaus, has considered the ‘predatory female angle’. Hunter purposely gets pregnant for the purposes of extracting financially from Edwards. It may not even be his kid. So far I have heard anyone follow thru on what other liaisons she had. But so long as the time of conception fits the timeframe she has Edwards in the cage.

* If Hunter knows its not his kid and a paternity test was run the gig is up. That fits why she is refusing one.

* Even if it is Edwards kid that a paternity test confirms that is not to Hunter’s purpose either. Now the finances downshift. It becomes a child support case where the rewards are not as great.

Certainly follow the money. But I would start with Hunter not Edwards. More than one woman has trapped a man into a nice juicy money trap for sex situation.

Is it just me or is there an elephant in the room with a big sandwich board painted with these observations? – 1. Large sums of money paid to mistress 2. Mistress declines paternity test 3. Allegations of campaign fund abuse are surfacing 4. Mistress and love child “whisked away” 5. Saying weasel Edwards is the lowest form of evil pond scum insults evil pond scum.

The elephant’s name is… I’m becoming seriously concerned about the life of this woman and her child. Their sudden ‘disappearance’ would be very convenient about now wouldn’t it? Where is she?

Trial lawyers never give away their money to total strangers. First, it is very expensive for a busy trial lawyer’s law firm to maintain an office. There is expensive rent, salaries for junior lawyers, secretaries, investigtaors and huge expenses for expert witnesses. Trial lawyers don’t get paid on a salary basis or on an hourly rate. They are paid on a contingency basis. If the don’t win the lawsuit or settle it, they get nothing. There is also enormous pressure to bring in big cases. Many hours of a trial lawyer’s time is taken up with rejecting weak cases or cases where the plaintiff (person suing) has a bad personality and the trial lawyer does not want him. All good trial lawyers stash away lots of money to maintain their offices when business slows or juries reject their claims. It is therefore impossible to imagine any circumstances where a sophisticated trial lawyer like Fred Baron would give away hundreds of thousands of his own dollars to Hunter and Young, two people that he did not know or care about. Obviously, Edwards funneled money to Baron to pay to Hunter and Young. Edwards does not have to maintain a law office. Baron does. Rest assured that Baron would not spend one plug nickel of his own money on a John Edwards mistress or gopher.

I’m curious to know how he performed the act without messing up his hair? Did he allow Reille to run her fingers through his hair? If so–the appearance of her hair notwithstanding–is she a good hairdresser? Or did she, or he, have professional hairdressers on standby for emergency grooming after the act?
And why didn’t he make her get an abortion? I thought that was what those people did.

Good point, Lux. Apparently, he is also a good-hearted man who also likes to give millions of dollars of his own money to fellow Edwards campaign staffers who are looking to hide low from the press.

He (Baron) insists that his assistance to Ms. Hunter and Andrew Young, the man who claims to be the father of her child, was an effort to get them away from the tabloid press. He said Mr. Edwards did not know about the arrangement.

Philanthropy is laudable, but I need more details. Like, where did Baron get the millions that he gave away, and, how was this transaction reported from an IRS perspective?
