The Denver cyanide suicide mystery

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 13, 2008 10:17 AM

Here’s what bugs me about these stories. When the authorities don’t know anything, they should just say they don’t know anything, don’t have enough evidence to make any conclusions one way or another, and leave it at that. Not “We have no evidence to believe that this was terrorism.” All the evidence isn’t in yet. Do the tests, wait for the results, then make your statements.

Annoying.

RMN:

The FBI and local authorities are trying to sort out the mystery of what happened to a man found dead at the Burnsley Hotel in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood with a foreign substance that the coroner’s office said might be cyanide.

On Tuesday, the man was identified as Saleman Abdirahman Dirie, a 29-year-old Canadian. Denver police said they believe he had been dead for several days before officers found him Monday morning.

“Because of the suspicious nature of the death and the unidentified substance – it leads to a lot of questions,” Special Agent Kathy Wright, an FBI spokeswoman, said Tuesday.

The coroner’s office said it completed an autopsy Tuesday, but medical examiners can’t determine the manner and cause of death until they have the results of lab tests. Foul play is not suspected…

…Although the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force was alerted and is helping in the investigation, Wright emphasized that agents do not have information that would lead them to believe that the victim was a “terrorist or has terrorist ties.”

Little Green Footballs finds an interesting nugget worth the attention of investigators: “Possible Denver Cyanide Suspect Posted ‘Kill Them!’ in July.”

How is it possible to know nothing and everything at the same time? Why say something so indeterminate before enough conclusive evidence has been gathered to decisively say whether or not the guy was a terrorist?

Huh? Does anyone else remember when, just two days into their Columbia University Noose investigation, the NYPD quickly excused Professor Madonna Constantine from suspicion by saying, “our victim is a victim?”

Since then, Professor Madonna Constantine has been terminated from Columbia University for plagiarism, and false charges of plagiarism against those students she initially plagiarized…and nary a credible suspect has been found.

How’s that NYPD investigation been going?

This Denver case smells fishier than a John Edwards paternity denial. Knee-jerk statements are never helpful.

And they wouldn’t say so if they did. They say the same thing in every case. Their first priority is to calm the ignorant masses and protect the local tourism industry. Most of the time, they’ll end up being right just by chance. But they’ve lost a lot of credibility with me because they justify deceiving the public to prevent panic or Mob action. They just don’t trust the American people and I don’t trust half of what they say because of it.

Initially there was nothing suspicious about him, either.

Just what’s wrong with putting the spotlight on cases like this?

What libertarian conservative principle is violated by doing so? Since the guy is DEAD and was never/never will be charged with anything you can’t use “innocent until proven guilty”.

Are you saying Obama and his supporters are allied with Muslim terrorists, or they are sympathetic to them?

You’ll have to look pretty effing hard to find anyone at this—or any other—conservative site who believes that.

Have you considered that Muslim terrorists would be happy to kill Obama supporters too?

So…what’s the basis for your “pretty sure”?
