Update: L.A. passes illegal alien day laborer mandate
Last week, I noted the most recent open-borders insanity in Los Angeles– a proposed ordinance requiring private retailers to set aside space for illegal alien day laborers. Well, the full city council has gone ahead and passed the rule…unanimously:
The Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved an ordinance Wednesday requiring certain home improvement stores to develop plans for dealing with day laborers who congregate nearby in search of jobs.
The ordinance mandates that proposed big-box stores obtain conditional-use permits, which could then require them to build day-labor centers with shelter, drinking water, bathrooms and trash cans.
Councilman Bernard C. Parks, who first proposed the ordinance four years ago, said that this was just the first phase and that he planned to address existing home improvement stores next. He said the businesses needed to be held accountable for their role in attracting dayworkers.
The vote prompted a standing ovation by dozens of day laborers in the council chambers. The move came after years of debate and negotiations among city leaders, Home Depot officials and dayworker advocates over who should be responsible for public safety and nuisance issues created by workers gathered in parking lots and on sidewalks and street corners.
“This is an important day,” said Councilman Eric Garcetti. “This is an example for the nation.”
Yeah. An example of the continued, bone-headed recklessness of illegal alien sanctuary zealots who continue to subsidize and sponsor systemic undermining of our immigration laws, sovereignty, and security.
Jamiel Shaw was unavailable for comment.

Anyway, if the city of Los Angeles essentially wants “rest stops” for day laborers, then they should pay for them, not the retailers.
Home Depot and all the other big box stores there should pack up their bags and move just outside of city jurisdiction.
If Phoenix ever somehow adopts this I will stop shopping at any big box store that panders and gives in to this kind of insane ordinance.

What about our borders – they attract lots of dayworkers? Should the Feds create spas and way stations with cots, refreshments, showers, and maps to various locations? It’s only right based on their logic.
This is ridiculous….regardless of illegal alien or citizen or just alien, asking big box stores to provide water and restrooms to some people who stand there voluntarily is just ridiculous.

You see if we had illegal aliens loitering outside city hall looking for day jobs it would be city hall’s fault and they would need to put in rest stops for these illegal aliens. Again, we’re all illuminated by another brilliant move from Sodom & Gemmorah. If I was the CEO of Home Depot or Lowes, I’d close my stores and move just across the border to Nevada. Or better yet, just close and save some cash. Then the real voters, now unemployed, can vie with the “day invaders” for work. Stupifying… Lord, the black hole comment… I love it.

Once again personal responsibility is rebuked – how exactly are the migrant workers not responsible for their own actions? How anyone can hold home improvement retail chains accountable for “their role” in attracting day laborers is beyond me. If that’s the case, then the Federal Government should be held fiscally liable for their role (non-enforcement of existing illegal immigration laws). If nothing else, this case sets a dangerous president for the rest of the nation.
Liberalism really is a disease…and it’s spreading ever more rapidly through CA and the rest of the country. God help us all.

Smaller stores, U-Haul etc. will be required to provide dunkin donuts and coffee in the morning hours and full meal in the evening upon return.
Close the stores. Period. If I was CEO, I would announce that the stores would be closing due to the new regulations.
This problem is more of a political one rather than illegal alien problem. I know most of the day laborers there are illegals…but if US citizens do the same , will you agree with LA’s ridiculous policy?

They must have some recourse here. I don’t see how it can be possible that a city council can compel a private business to facilitate breaking the law.
In a sane world, those who hang around your business fall into three categories: (1) employees; (2) customers; or (3) trespassers. Apparently, the Los Angeles City Council has, by legislative fiat, eliminated the last category from the laws of the land. Moreover, they have made these business owners responsible for everyone, which I am certain will do wonders for their liability insurance premiums.
Must Home Depot also provide anyone who steps onto their property with free hot dogs and dry white wine?

I do not understand why Home Depot does not sue the City of Los Angeles over this. The City is responsible for ALL of the conditions that permit the illegals to stay there…and should be responsible for their “care” as well.
Why should I pay higher prices at Home Depot or anywhere else to cover the costs of providing for these illegals? And we already know that the ongoing maintenance costs will be massive.

I give these “centers” a week … tops … and they will be trashed … covered in gang graffiti … toilets won’t work … soda machines will be constantly broken into for the sodas … the water coolers will be out of service … and there will be a “hot line” to 911 to call the cops to break up the trouble …
I realize I am probably being overly optimistic when I saw “a week” … but it might take that long …
One other thing … who is going to have to keep these “centers” cleaned up … how many rolls of TP and Paper Towels will be stolen daily …

Someone from Home Depot ought to get creative and go buy vans and put the letters I.C.E. in huge font across the sides and park them 100 feet away from these centers. Put in a camera and record the activity and eventual vandalism to the van. Have 911 on speed dial for when they do start vandalizing the vans…
Almost as good as a video I saw once of a guy who had a camera in his pickup truck rolling at the bed of his truck and hidden in the cab. He then went and picked up 6 or so “day laborers” from the corner who didn’t speak any English and said “you, you, and you, want to come with me?” They all hopped in, he drove about 3 minutes to the nearest police station and watched them all jump from the moving truck as they pulled into the parking lot and scurry like cockroaches. Was some kind of prank show recording it all.
Oi…unbelievable. Home Depot should ignore this. It’s how things are done around here, apparently. I often think that oil companies should drill and ignore federal law. They can provide the energy that alternative fuels just won’t provide.

I’m so happy I moved out of southern Cal 3 years ago. We saw these things coming. We tried taking the battles to the courts and the ballot box for 40 years. The problem is the large hispanic legal defense funds. Some of this money comes from your state and federal governments. Look out America, this sort of thinks is coming your way.

So far, if I applied to be an illegal alien I’d get:
a pass for driving without a license, inspection sticker, car registration, or car insurance
1) 3 of my 5 previous years federal income taxes back
2) in-state tuition at any institution of my choosing
3) social security benefits (with no income requirements)
4) medicare benefits (with no income requirements)
5) free travel to and from Mexico with no need of a passport. Also get to bypass the body cavity search and theft of my computer and computerized data by the feds
6) A get out of jail free pass for any major or minor crime I might commit
7) a pass for breaking any neighborhood zoning codes like “single family dwelling”
Where do I sign?
Until the government stops federal aid to sanctuary cities for disobeying federal law, this kind of insantity will continue.

I live in Alhambra, which borders on the city of Los Angeles. Alhambra’s Home Depot already has the “NO LOITERING” signs, but to no avail; hordes of illegals clog the parking lot. I stopped shopping there three years ago (except as a last resort) for that very reason, and a nearby Ace Hardware gets all my business.
This goes on in plain view of the whole world. The Alhambra PD and the federales do nothing, and they should be totally embarrassed. These parasites should be rounded up by the dozens and forceably be ejected from the country. I have seen these people unzip and urinate without shame in public.
This is clear “blame the victims” mentality. The retailer doesn’t cause this, and would have them all taken away, if only law enforcement agencies would DO THEIR JOBS.
Okay, so it’s the capitalist businesses that attract illegal laborers, but instead of spending the money to deport them, the CC wants to make them as comfortable as possible, and have those businesses pay for it? (And by all means, if you bring family, they will give them housing vouchers, free healthcare, food stamps, education, pension benefits, unemployment benefits, and will qualify those who want to attend college, scholarship monies intended for actual American citizens.)
No wonder they want to come here! Isn’t socialism wonderful?
We have to take away ALL Federal Monies from these Sanctuary Cities,and ignore the cries that we are taking lunch money away from school children! Let’s let the city dwellers pay the bills.
BTW, has anyone here thought of this from the “unfunded mandate” angle? It seems to me that calling upon the retailers to pay at their own expense to deal with this blight is an unfunded mandate.
My recommendations for the retailers:
(1) Sue to get this overturned as illegal;
(2) Failing that, close their stores within the city limits, and let the city deal with the newly unemployed. Perhaps they can build homeless shelters with amenities for them, too.
One of my daughters graduated 12th out of 543. She had to make a special appeal for entrance at the University of California. Hispanics had first call.

Absolutely! If the elected representatives of the “people” feel the need to REQUIRE something that is not the direct responsibility of those involved, then the “people” should foot the bill, NOT the ones who are being victimized.
In other words, these “big-box” stores did not demand that these human beings come and violate their space and cause problems for their customers; quite the opposite. So the city should assume the responsibility of protecting its residents and hold the perpetrators responsible.
This is the city’s responsibility, and just as I expect from the liberal mentality, they are punishing the victim instead of the criminal.
Do all liberals avoid the mental thinking process that considers personal responsibility, or do they just find it easier to take advantage of the good nature of conservatives and businesses, forcing them to foot the bill?

Does ICE punish companies that hire illegals in California, like they do in Iowa?
Someone should stand outside the illegals “union hall” and say to each person that looks to hire them: “if you hire illegal workers, I will report you to ICE and have your business closed and your assets confiscated.” Oh, that’s right…. ICE won’t do anything like that.

Housing prices have dropped 30 percent. People can’t sell their homes quick enough. The city council is obviously appealing to the remaining occupants, the illegal aliens.

I stopped patronizing Home Depot years ago when they decided to put up Spanish language signs throughout their stores and begin emphasizing Spanish speaking workers in their Southern CA stores.
I sincerely doubt this was done to provide better service to Hispanics here legally. By allowing day laborers to congregate on their property they made the business calculation that the people hiring them would buy their home improvement products from Home Depot rather than driving elsewhere to do so.

Please support Walter Moore. He’s our only hope as Rob points out in post #86. The city council will pass this unlawful mandate, yet they are stalling Jamiel’s law, which was written by Mr. Moore.
It’s a simple law that boils down to taking away special order 40 rights from Known Gang bangers that are here illegally.

I looked at the pie chart.. Why aren’t the white population getting minority status protections (and privileges)?
According to the chart, they are a minority to 2 other races (Hispanic & Blacks).
Then when you add all the “minority” races together as a group (minorities vs. non-minorities) then whites are an extreme minority, actually the ONLY minority. Where are the protections for white people? Hello Libs? Where is the compassion for the underprivileged? Hello?
