Woo-hoo: Judge lets Kwame come to Denver without monitoring bracelet

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 14, 2008 10:44 AM

Look out, Barack. Your old friend and pledged superdelegate, corruptocrat Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, is coming to Denver for the Democrat National Convention.

A judge in Michigan is not only allowing him to travel, but has freed Kilpatrick from his electronic tether. The judge believes it’s important for the city of Detroit for the embattled Kilpatrick to appear at the convention. Seriously:

As the Wayne County Prosecutor rushes to the the Michigan Court of Appeals trying to overturn a judge’s ruling allowing Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to attend the Democratic National Convention, the Free Press has just learned that the judge who approved the trip has imposed stricter travel restrictions on Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Leonard Townsend earlier this morning ruled that the mayor may attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver later this month and may take off his electronic tether, but in a decision that may surprise even Kilpatrick’s attorneys, Townsend said the mayor otherwise may not leave Wayne County.

…Townsend’s unexpected move set off a furious objection by assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey.

“We’re going to strenuously object,” she said, adding that Thomas’ request broke a private deal Kilpatrick’s lawyers struck with prosecutors.

Townsend rejected all of her arguments, saying the mayor arrived in court before he did and was not a flight risk.

“He wants to be here as much as the people” want him here, Townsend said, adding that it was important to Detroit that the mayor attend the convention.
He then went further, ordering the removal of the tether the mayor has worn since Friday.

As Lindsey continued to argue, Townsend said “I think you’re losing your composure.”

Flashback: The Kwame Obama used to know– “doing an outstanding job of gathering together the leadership at every level in Detroit to bring about the kind of renaissance that all of us anticipate for this great city.”

Seriously though, the article claims Obama lauded Kwame with these statements just 3 months ago. That’s really bad.

Guess Judge Townsend figured his decision made sense considering the Democratic Party’s obsession with the rights of felons, murderers, abortionists, Gitmo detainees and other purveyors of radical Islamic terrorism, totalitarian regimes, etc, etc. He just wants to make sure their various constituences are well-represented. Further, any party insiders who dare to protest this ill-advised ruling will be promptly labeled “racist.” On the bright side, there may still be room under Obama’s bus now for someone else. Given Kwame’s impressive physical stature, he would’ve taken up precious space.

Maybe we aren’t looking at the judge’s true intent. Perhaps, when he intimated that it was “important to Detroit that the mayor attend the convention“, he was meaning there would be less crime in Detroit, if this known criminal were out of town for at least the short duration of the Dem’s convention? Maybe his intentions were noble and taking into consideration the best interests of Detroit? ;-)

LANSING, Mich. (AP) – Democratic candidate Barack Obama doesn’t want the embattled mayor of Detroit on hand when Obama accepts the party’s presidential nomination in Denver.

A spokesman for Obama said Thursday that Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick would be a distraction if he goes to the convention as a superdelegate.

Kilpatrick faces eight felony charges in a perjury case and two felony charges in an assault case. A Michigan judge told Kilpatrick on Thursday that he could attend the convention. His lawyer, James Thomas, said high-ranking Democrats want Kilpatrick to attend.

But Obama spokesman Brent Colburn said in an e-mail that the focus of the convention should be on Obama and not on what Colburn called “the troubles of one individual.”

He’s a distraction all right. He got caught doing what all politicians do. He just didn’t have the benefit of any kind of training or the inteligence to use it. It’s that public school education again, I’m sure Harvard trains politicians to be better an not getting caught.

Did G. Gordon Liddy not RSVP?

I met him once in college when he attended homecoming at my school and still have the envelope he signed to get the keys to his dorm room. I don’t know why I still keep it but it always makes me smile when I come across it.

    BTW, he looked totally shady.

If I had time I’d make some of those anklets and have a booth at Denver to sell them. I bet you could make a buck or two selling fake ones as the latest DNC fashion craze.
