I met him once in college when he attended homecoming at my school and still have the envelope he signed to get the keys to his dorm room. I don’t know why I still keep it but it always makes me smile when I come across it.

BTW, he looked totally shady.

He’s a distraction all right. He got caught doing what all politicians do. He just didn’t have the benefit of any kind of training or the inteligence to use it. It’s that public school education again, I’m sure Harvard trains politicians to be better an not getting caught.

Obama camp says Detroit mayor unwelcome in Denver

Aug 14, 2:26 PM (ET) By KATHY BARKS HOFFMAN

LANSING, Mich. (AP) – Democratic candidate Barack Obama doesn’t want the embattled mayor of Detroit on hand when Obama accepts the party’s presidential nomination in Denver.

A spokesman for Obama said Thursday that Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick would be a distraction if he goes to the convention as a superdelegate.

Kilpatrick faces eight felony charges in a perjury case and two felony charges in an assault case. A Michigan judge told Kilpatrick on Thursday that he could attend the convention. His lawyer, James Thomas, said high-ranking Democrats want Kilpatrick to attend.

But Obama spokesman Brent Colburn said in an e-mail that the focus of the convention should be on Obama and not on what Colburn called “the troubles of one individual.”

Earlier today, Wayne County Circuit Judge Leonard Townsend ordered Kilpatrick’s tether removed in the perjury case, and also granted Kilpatrick permission to attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver on Aug. 25, something Kilpatrick was not eligible to do under earlier restrictions.
But Newsome, the clerk, said Giles today put in writing that the mayor must remain on tether in the assault case and stay within the confines of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. His order does not grant Kilpatrick an exception to attend the convention.

The issue of attending the convention could arise Friday at Kilpatrick’s preliminary hearing on the assault charges.

Kwame is back on the tether.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is back on an electronic tether, just hours after it was ordered removed by a Wayne Circuit Court judge. The tether was reinstated by 36th District Court Judge Ronald Giles, after a request by a prosecutor in the Michigan Attorney General's office.
