Congressional Candidate Gerry Connolly runs from his own immigration record

By see-dubya  •  August 15, 2008 01:17 PM

The free local fishwrap paper has a smoochy interview with Gerry Connolly, the Democratic candidate for a Northern Virginia congressional race, today. I’ve been watching Connolly for a while and he’s a big liberal–far too liberal even for one of the bluer ends of Virginia.

In the Fairfax Chronicle interview he’s wayyy left on a lot of issues–for example, hand-holding diplomacy with Iran. BUT all of a sudden he might not want you to know how liberal he is on one particular issue:

On immigration, Connolly said that securing our borders and stopping the flow of illegal immigrants must be a top priority of the next Congress; however, enforcement is only part of the solution. He said, “As a local government official, I’ve had to deal with the effects of our failed federal immigration system. That system is broken from top to bottom and needs wholesale reform.”

As Michelle might say, snorty-snort-snort-snort.

As Fairfax County supervisor, Connolly drove Fairfax County’s sanctuary policy for illegal immigrants. If he wants to fix the faults in the system, he can look in the mirror. Here’s Connolly last year:

“I can just tell you Fairfax County is not going to go the route of some of our neighbors. We’re not going to demagogue. We’re not going to essentially roll back the welcome mat.”

Oh, if you’re wondering why he’s not trumpeting his liberal policies on the immigration issue like he is with the others, here’s a clue.

In case you were wondering, Connolly’s Republican opponent, Keith Fimian, maintains a website here.

From my perspective, the only part of the immigration policy that is broken, is the enforcement part.

Yea, we need a whole new set of laws that our worthless, corrupt, lazy, pandering gov’t, isn’t going to enforce and never intended too… OH, that will fix it. (Sarcasm brought to you from the institute of just Regular Americans for putting America first, unofficial organization).

Ah, the old Blue-dog “conservative” soft shoe one more time, a lame dirge of a number that has long since worn out its welcome. The notion that Connolly and his ilk are going to lead the charge on border enforcement is utter and complete bunk. If you don’t believe me, ask Nancy P.

Now watch the voters of America fall for it . . .

One thing that I never seem to see mentioned is “showing compassion for Americans who are having their lives, culture and hometowns destroyed by unchecked illegal immigration”.

There are all of these “compassion” arguments for illegals with calls to help them move into US towns and make them 3rd world enclaves, but nothing is ever said of the American citizens who suffer.

America has a culture whether libs like it or not. People in Fairfax County shouldn’t have to live in towns that resemble the slums of Mexico, complete with high crime rates and English as a second language. People like Connolly have helped make Fairfax County a hostile place to live for American citizens.

Lefties want illegals to stay. Pandering to illegals is easier than trying to convince mainstream America to buy into the nanny state. These lefties aren’t really compasionate; they don’t give a hoot about the illegals. Lefty philosophy is to remain in power no matter what. If they had to pick lettuce instead, the illegals would be booted pronto!

These leftists astound me. Democracy is an inconvenience to them. They rule, we obey. They proclaim, we listen. The “system” is broken because THEY broke it through non-enforcement. Laws seem to mean nothing to them because they suffer no consequences for flouting them. Guys like this need to be caned and run to the jailhouse on a rail.

As a Fairfax County resident the past seven years, let me tell you how Mr. Connolly has dealt with ‘our failed federal immigration system’: during his tenure as Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the Fairfax County Public Schools’ budget has gone from $1.1B annually to over $2B annually, doubling my real estate taxes in the process. Typical, head-in-the-ground liberal response: throw more money at it and that should fix it.

The crime rate in Fairfax County jumped 22% in the first quarter of this year. At the same time, the crime rate in Prince William County dropped. The difference you say? Guess which county has a “look the other way” policy on illegal immigration and guess which county has initiated a major crackdown on illegal immigration.

Tell me about it. My mortgae was 1700 in 1998, now its over 2000, all because of the escrow = property tax increases. Meanwhile my son is going to a school which is only now being renovated since it was built in 1961

Mr. Connolly has been a disaster. But the county has been on a long, slow slide for years.

Gerry is all too eager to have us pay for all the illegal aliens flooding into the area as he has probably already registered them all to vote.

Keith Fimian may be the answer.

Gerry Connolly also aided (along with the entire Fairfax Supervisors) the renewal of the lease for the Saudi Academy. He had an arrogant snarl towards those in May who spoke in public comments against the county renewing the lease, going as far to call them bigots. Then the other shoe dropped, the extremist textbooks, the cover-up of sexual abuse of one student, leading the director to be arrested. Gerry Connolly is bad news and I hope he is defeated.

Connolly will go far in politics. I’ve seen him, shook his hand, and listened to him. He’s a true conman. I’m glad I left Fairfax County in May. He has no intention in “fixing” the immigration problem properly. He ran for office, last year, catering to the illegals. So it was sad when he won. You can’t go to any shopping mall there without running into day laborers begging for work. My wife was frightened to go shopping alone. His idea of “fixing” the problem is make them all citizens to expand his voter base. Fairfax, once, was a terrific place to live. I’ve lived there since the 70s. Now, housing is way too expensive and crime is up. What a joy it is now, that I can walk into a store and meet a clerk who actually speaks English and is friendly/helpful.
