i'm with armsnammo, drill, dig coal, create ethanol from waste, create biofuels from algae, build windfarms, build solar plants, build nuclear plants. buy more energy efficient appliances, cars, houses, and business buildings. but at the end of the day, why should any unprofitable system be subsidized by the taxpayer. if your energy source costs more to produce than it produces, it is a pipedream. the irs says it best, if your business does not produce a profit in at least 3 of 5 years, IT IS A HOBBY! we have been building and subsidizing alternative energy systems and vehicles for the last 3 decades. time for them to prove they are viable, because if not now when oil is $120 a barrel, WHEN? we have bankrupted the u.s. over the last 50 years subsidizing every left wing help the people, can't we all just get along, it's not your fault you dropped out of high school and had children before getting married, sure we can police the world, of course we will send aid to every catastrophe worldwide, and we will declare a catastrophe in the u.s. everytime california has an earthquake or forest fire, or florida has a hurricane, or tornado alley has a tornado, or the midwest flood plains have a flood, because the residents of those areas were SHOCKED SHOCKED to find this might happen and so didn't insure adequately for it. time to man up and start taking care of your responsibilities, and quit asking for the taxpayer to carry your freight.

Although he has long since left me in his dust, I was a geology classmate of Boone Pickens 57 years ago. Boone has been rich and Boone has been broke( but not lately)and prefers rich. Boone does not need any more money personally. He is giving away billions now instead of leaving it for the taxman.
Boone is driven by a need to make money.
He is a capitalist in a capitalist society and not the only person profiting from government subsidies.
The difference is: His plan will actually benefit America. Increased generation of electricity by wind power will reduce use of fossil fuels for that purpose and increased use of more abundant natural gas for conventional transportation where practical will make more crude oil available for gasoline, plastics and other crude based products.
The only thing that bothers me about Boone is his yucking it up with Obama and I will call him to task for that at the first OSU football game this fall.

So was meeting with the rich guy in the hopes of shaking him down, just like the obamamessiah is going to do somehow indicative of McCain not campaigning to win? Only here.
<blockquote>"On the positive side at least McCain didn’t take this opportunity to announce he was considering selecting a cross-dressing Ambassador to the UN to throw off the hostile nations when s/he shows up one day as Jane and the next as Joe."</blockquote>
The <strike>Russians</strike> Soviets are actually petrified of the prospect of <a href="http://morningchuhi.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/giuliani_drag.jpg" rel="nofollow">Rudy Giuliani</a> being nominated Americas ambassador to the UN.

Because I'm voting for McCain does not necessarily mean I'm supporting him.

Rating - 2*

I'm glad both candidates are meeting with Pickens.
He's been proposing to use more natural gas as an energy source - for over 20 years -so the question is - why has it taken so long for anyone to take him seriously.

Pathetic. A story gets posted where McCain met with someone and the Pavlovian response: “You read something like this and you wonder: does McCain really want to win?”</blockquote>

I don't think anybody figures McCain is campaigning to lose but rather he does not know how to campaign to win.

Fortunately for him his major opponent is also mighty clueless. So, with that, the hope is it may come down to which one does the last dumb thing. I'm not sure if I'm more amazed or amused by the respective ongoing comedies of errors.

The good news for McCain is that he may be within striking distance. The bad news is that when he does work up the gumption to strike, it's usually hazy or off target.

Well he is looking out for the TV weathercaters too, not just himself, Nero. We'll need to check the local weather ever morn to see if there's a breeze so we can cook breakfast and drive in to work.

On the plus side, that means more healthy people since we'll lose pounds in skipping cooked meals and having to walk to/from work on days the weather's calm.

2:16 p.m. EDT Aug. 15, 2008
DALLAS, Aug 15, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Below is a statement issued by T. Boone Pickens following his meeting this morning with U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) in Aspen, Colorado:
<blockquote>"It was a pleasure to sit down with Senator McCain and discuss firsthand an issue that is America's top priority: ending our dependence on foreign oil, which today is approaching 70 percent. <strong>We plan on having a similar meeting with Senator Obama in the very near future.</strong> I have repeatedly stressed the nonpartisan aspects of my initiative. This is a threat to our economic and national security and something that requires bipartisan support.
During the meeting I reiterated the urgency of the situation. I told him that any credible domestic energy policy must reduce our foreign dependence on foreign oil by at least 30% in the next 10 years (on top of conservation that is beginning to happen), must utilize proven and available technologies and be 100 percent comprised of American resources.
We discussed my plan in some detail. I also outlined our progress in building more than one million supporters who are actively pushing this issue with the goal of getting legislation passed in the first 100 days of the next administration that will get us on the path to radically reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
While I can not speak for the Senator, my sense is that he was interested and encouraged by the work we are doing and recognizes that citizen education and citizen involvement is key to changing course and actually developing a real energy policy with teeth that will help this country from our current disastrous path." </blockquote>

So McCain heard him out, so will Obama. Lets see if "little windy" makes an issue out of it when he meets with obama.

I also outlined our progress in building more than one million supporters who are actively pushing this issue with the goal of getting legislation passed in the first 100 days of the next administration that will get us on the path to radically reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
While I can not speak for the Senator, my sense is that he was interested and encouraged by the work we are doing and recognizes that citizen education and citizen involvement is key to changing course and actually developing a real energy policy with teeth that will help this country from our current disastrous path.”

So McCain heard him out, so will Obama. Lets see if “little windy” makes an issue out of it when he meets with obama.

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Gasification_Combined_Cycle" rel="nofollow">Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle</a> (IGCC) is the cleanest currently-operational coal-fired electricity generation technology. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FutureGen" rel="nofollow">FutureGen</a> is an experimental U.S. research project to investigate the possibility of sequentering IGCC CO2 emissions underground.

This is where the future's at. Now I have a feeling Pickens is aiming high so the total percentage of wind is around 7% to 10%, maybe less.

Why put that much money into wind when we have the largest coal reserves in the world. Granted we have the second largest wind reserves in the world; a quick guess makes me think Picken's Plan will add 170,000 - 200,000 windmills to the US landscape.

Farmers will make tons in royalties.
