More reasons for the Obamedia to wet itself

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 15, 2008 11:53 AM

Ooooh. Who cares about Georgia? There’s video of Barack bodysurfing. And photos. So many Oba-licious photos.

Oooooh.

Omigod. He is so buff. He is so HAWT. Look at his chest. Look at his arms. Ooooooh. Turn this way, Barry. Mmmmm. No, no, turn around again.

Agent, agent, get out of the way!

How can the American people not want to put this man in the White House? He body surfs.

He dances. He wears tight jeans. And his chest is so yummy.

I’m going to weep. No, I’m going to do a happy dance.

Ooooooh.

Disturbingly, the average American isn’t even paying attention to Russia’s chilling re-emergence as a world security nightmare. In my office, there are several female employees fresh out of college, and all of them are voting for Obama. Since one is the daughter of Israeli immigrants, I asked her how she could possibly support him over McCain, given the fact that he wants to coddle maniacal, Jew-hating regimes like Iran that are committed to Israel’s destruction. Her response? “He’s cool!”

If we weren’t living in such precarious times, her statement might actually be funny. Instead, I walked away feeling pretty depressed, all too aware that she represents just one of many ill-informed American voters who place a high value on style and little, if any, on substance. There is an abject lack of critical thinking skills in our Oprah-sized, feel-good culture. I just hope common-sense and true patriotism prevail in November.

How many shady deals surround him? At least as many as any of the stinky repubs you often point out. And until he had some political clout, neither he nor hi wife had a high paying job.

One battle at a time, Slick. This situation isn’t a video game.

It took a lot of individual blocks before we knocked the enemy’s house down during WW II, this war is even more difficult in this respect. Leave this to the grown ups with the guns, patience is a virtue.

Yo, your 3 weeks behind the 8 ball there lib. The government only does reporting on donations over 200 dollars, several articles have addressed this. Go look up enlisted salaries vs officer salaries and get back to me lgm (clone). Officers make up a much smaller percentage of the military and tend to vote against their enlisted underlings. Enlisted folk are smart enough to remember what happened to the military spending and concern shown to the military under previous CiC’s Carter and Clinton. Power corrupts…

You make a good point. As a fellow conservative, I am less than thrilled by the prospect of voting for McCain. But at least he reacted strongly to the Russian invasion from the get-go, and continues to condemn Putin during his campaign stops. During the debates, he was quick to respond with the KGB line in reference to Vlad’s soul (assuming he even has one). The best Obama could muster initially was a typical, wishy-washy liberal line urging both sides to show “restraint.” It was only in reaction to McCain’s bold statement that the messiah switched into politically motivated, “tough guy” mode.

But for the purposes of highlighting personal interactions with lovestruck Obama supporters, I could not have posted a more telling example. Then again, we still have a few months to go until November. I am sure I’ll encounter something else even more indicative of the dearth of meaningful standards when it comes to voting for an American president.

Looks like our military also hates America: 859 members of the military donated a total of $335,536 to Obama. McCain received $280,513 from 558 military donors.

If you break that number down, looks like they like mccain better..

Based on the above numbers, here is how much, on average, the donors gave to each person:

    Obama: $390.61
    McCain: $502.71

Woops! Thanks for letting us know who actually supports the candidates with better donations..even if i think mccain is creep.

    Dismissed.

Daria’s anecdotal evidence sure has me worried. Not as worried as other commenter’s predictions of nuclear winter or the forthcoming race war that Obama’s election will bring about make me, but still. Does she think he’s cool? Oh no! It’s almost as if we live in a country where someone who went to boarding school and Yale all the while being the son of the former head of the CIA, VP and President could run as a “regular” guy and as an outsider.

And, if you want people to consider John McCain the candidate of “substance,” you might tell him to not say things like countries don’t invade other countries in the 21st Century. As it makes him, look, y’know, like an uninformed, “average” American. Or worse, another empty suit, insulated in Washington, unchallenged by his press and his electorate, who thinks he can say any old thing, no matter how ridiculous and inaccurate it may be, and as long as he flaunts his resume, we’ll just lap it up.

Oh, are you a veteran, Senator McCain. We’re sorry. Just as long as you don’t wind surf or put swiss on your cheesesteak, we’ll let you say anything you like. Confuse the names of countries. Reject the G.I. Bill. Support torture techniques that once broke your will and forever altered your physical state. Do whatever you like. Just don’t windsurf. As long as you don’t do that, we’ll respect your service. We won’t listen to the rantings of a loon who promotes his book of smears and lies on white power radio. We promise. Keep that (R) next to your name and we promise to keep Ann Coulter from saying that your injuries were your own fault. Because you and only you know how to “win wars.”

But, hey, maybe I’m just me being an average, uninformed American. Or another member of this terrible generation that sonfdy mentioned (y’know, like the majority of servicemen and women who’ve donated 6 times more money to Obama than McCain). Because I seemed to have missed all these great victories that John McCain has led us to. Which is even stranger, when you consider countries don’t invade other countries in the 21st Century. Without that, how on Earth are we ever going to “win?”

Barack Obama is merely the culmination of our culture. Obama fills many of today’s virtues. What are today’s virtues? Primarily, openness and equality. As Allan Bloom stated, “Openness used to be the virtue that permitted us to seek the good by using reason. It now means accepting everything and denying reason’s power. The unrestrained and thoughtless pursuit of openness, without recognizing the inherent political, social, or cultural problem of openness as the goal of nature, has rendered openness meaningless. Cultural relativism destroys both one’s own and the good. Culture, hence, closedness, reigns supreme. Openness to closedness is what we teach.” Then you have equality, which now trumps excellence, for one can be no better than another, have more than another, regardless of disparities in the amount of time and effort one spends to accomplish their goals.
So, here we have Obama, who doesn’t “flip-flop,” but rather is “open” to all sides, which is now more virtuous than being right. In our culture now, he’s also the personification of equality. Regardless of his lack of skill, intellect, character, and leadership credentials, Obama still carries the day in terms of equality by showing that despite all of his deemed “hurdles” of race, mishaps of character, coming from a broken home, etc., he shows that we’re “good” enough to elect him, which provides more people “hope,” since no longer do you need to have the aforementioned qualities or a strong work ethic to be President. All one needs now is an “open” mind and the most average, or even “disadvantaged,” background.
So when we ask ourselves where our culture has gone, I answer with two words: Barack Obama.

And is “the” DailyKos like “the” internets?

U.S. soldiers have donated more presidential campaign money to Democrat Barack Obama than to Republican John McCain, a reversal of previous campaigns in which military donations tended to favor GOP White House hopefuls, a nonpartisan group reported Thursday.

Troops serving abroad have given nearly six times as much money to Obama’s presidential campaign as they have to McCain’s, the Center for Responsive Politics said.

The report tracked donations of $200 or more. It found that 859 members of the military donated a total of $335,536 to Obama. McCain received $280,513 from 558 military donors.

Among soldiers serving overseas at the time of their donations, 134 gave a total of $60,642 to Obama while 26 gave a total of $10,665 to McCain. That was less than the amount received by Republican Ron Paul, who collected $45,512 from 99 soldiers serving abroad, the report said.

Totals are listed here, even from your own quote. And it only keeps track of donations over 200 dollars. Get back to me along with ilovemycountry on elisted vs officer salaries and voting trends among the two of them in past elections. Then look at military spending cuts under Carter and Clinton. Yeah, and I was in the infantry under Clinton.

As for his supposed intelligence, ask him how many states there are.

And for the record, my “anecdotal evidence” is merely a reflection of the pervasive vacuousness of the mainstream media, Daily Kos, Huffington Post, most Democratic politicians and every other liberal outlet with regard to their candidate of choice.

    Perhaps not as “non-partisan” as one might think, considering their funding comes from the following;

“Support for the Center comes from a combination of foundation grants and individual contributions. The Center accepts no contributions from businesses or labor unions.”[2]

    Major Funders

The Ford Foundation (currently under a three year grant of $1,000,000)
The Pew Charitable Trusts (currently under a two year grant of $550,000)
The Carnegie Corporation (currently under a three year grant of $450,000)
The Joyce Foundation (currently under a two-year grant of $350,000)

Not necessarily a Who’s Who of social and environmental causes, but pretty much.

Good question. All I’m saying is that there are lies, damn lies, and statistics. And you can make statistics say just about anything you want them to.

In my 20+ years of military service, the vast majority of both officer and enlisted people that I served with were conservative, pro-Republican types. To now read a statistic that tells me that they contributed 6 times as much to the leftist candidate makes me wonder who is compiling the statistics. Kind of like the judges in the women’s gymnastics.
