Rating 1*.

I'm in suspense - when will the next team picture of the "Spanish slant eyes" emerge.

Michelle, It would be certainly understandable if you overlooked it - because I sure don't have enough time to look over all the comments on your blog - but could you update the post giving npphotg some much deserved credit of calling attention to the Tennis team picture back when you posted about the basketball picture.

npphotg - don't know if that will work -
but hope you don't mind me trying. I believe to give credit where credit is due - but I think it's perfectly understandable if Michelle overlooked it.

Well, we always have The Black Adder to fall back on...

<b><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0n5eeHBASA&feature=related" rel="nofollow">Youtube: The Queen of Spain's Beard</a></b>

A few seconds into the video, when Prince Edmund (Rowan Atkinson) dresses in drag to fool the un-appealing Princess of Spain into thinking he is gay and thus avoid marrying her, it backfires:

"Aah, you dress like a Spanish man to delight me!"

Stupid as it is, it saddens me that this sort of thing is so important to the world.
That being said, I dislike Spain. Those pansies were "neutral" in WWII and all the nonsense they pulled in Central America is coming back to bite us in the you know what today. Useless country.

This is from the Washington Post they were posing for an add that will be ran in Spain this is in reference to the Spanish Basketball team the person taking their photo asked them to poses like this. Read they were responding to a request by the photographer.

Spanish Players Respond

Players on Spain's Olympic men's basketball team defended a photo in an advertisement showing the players using their fingers to apparently make their eyes look more Chinese.
ad_icon

The photo, which has been running as a newspaper spread in Spain since Friday, shows all 15 players making the gesture on a basketball court adorned with a Chinese dragon. The photo was part of a publicity campaign for team sponsor Seur, a Spanish courier company, and is being used only in Spain.

"It was something like supposed to be funny or something but never offensive in any way," said Spain center Pau Gasol, who also plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. "I'm sorry if anybody thought or took it the wrong way and thought that it was offensive."

Point guard José Calderón said the team was responding to a request from the photographer.

"We felt it was something appropriate, and that it would be interpreted as an affectionate gesture," Calderón, who plays for NBA's Toronto Raptors, wrote on his ElMundo.es blog. "Without a doubt, some . . . press didn't see it that way."

International news media criticized the photo. London's Daily Telegraph said Spain's "poor reputation for insensitivity toward racial issues has been further harmed" by the photo.

The OCA, an organization representing Asian-Pacific Americans, also found the photo disturbing. "It is unfortunate that this type of imagery would rear its head at a time that is supposed to be about world unity," George Wu, the group's deputy director, said in a statement.

Everyone, press included, is misunderstanding the depth of European naivete and lack of political sensitivity. You see, since they are European, they are NOT racist, and therefore nothing they do undergoes even the basic reviews our elementary schoolchildren undergo for statements and actions. In a way, it is refreshing, until they start maligning the popular, media embraced, vision that we Americans are racist.
Look at the riots in France. The youth in France have few chances at a job, and the immigrants have no chance. The locals do not hire immigrants, and the socialistic rules do not allow hiring part time help. The bottom line is while the leftist press in Europe enjoys bashing us, their record is far worse than ours since the civil war.

I am going to defend the Spanish, everyone is taking this gesture out of context. The Spanish are just showing how narrow & myopic the Chinese are when it comes to following the rules, or maybe not.
