Obamabacklash: More cult members mad about Ticketgate

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 16, 2008 09:03 AM

Words. Just words. Empty, empty words.

More Obama fans are discovering the essence of their leader.

The latest? Several Dems who didn’t get convention speech tickets are griping about the apparent “first come, first serve” fraud served up by their leader’s campaign. In the wake of Denver press reports about the campaign demanding that ticket recipients volunteer in exchange for the prized passes to Obama’s Invesco Field acceptance speech comes news of possible preferential treatment for donors and other favored workers. All is not well in Obama-land. Wah:

As the Barack Obama campaign begins doling out tickets today to his historic Invesco Field speech, some of those who missed out are questioning whether the system really was first-come, first-served.

Several of them said they were upset not because it appeared the ticket give-away wasn’t as advertised but because the campaign perpetuated the idea that the vast majority of passes would go to regular people of all backgrounds and political beliefs.

Instead, several of those who missed out said they suspect the bulk of the tickets were passed out to people who worked for – or gave money to – the campaign.

“It just makes me angry,” said Katherine Thayer, of Denver. “If they’re going to go out and say it’s first-come, first-served and then turn around and reward people who volunteer or gave money, then they ought to be up front about it.”

She and others desperately hoped to see Obama accept the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination Aug. 28.

Billy Reed, of Arvada, said he signed up minutes after the announcement of the ticket plan, which was unveiled at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 6. But he missed out, and others who volunteered for the campaign got tickets even though they didn’t sign up until the next day.

The Obama campaign refused to say how many tickets were set aside for donors and volunteers.

From the comments section at the RMN:

votingdem writes:

I was one of the local democrats who registered online immediately after 2:30 p.m. on August 6. I got a phone call from a “Matt,” trying to get me to volunteer for 3 separate shifts to get tickets. When I told Matt that I work 2 jobs and would be unable to put that much time in, he said that I would have to “take my chances on the lottery” for my tickets. I said “what lottery, it’s first come, first served.” Matt said he and the Obama campaign had no control over the ticket process, and blamed the Democratic National Committee. Needless to say, I didn’t get my tickets, just an email suggesting I volunteer. This leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I’m starting to wonder if Barack is just like every other politician out there. I’m very disappointed. I thank the Rocky for the story and I hope they look into it further. Letting the “ordinary people” in was a great idea, too bad is wasn’t true.

“I’m starting to wonder if Barack is just like every other politician out there.”

No! Ya think?

I’m sure it never crossed what passses for your “mind”, but if Lincoln had more experience in government, it certainly is possible that the secession crisis could have passed without the cost of 500,000 lives. If Obama makes a similar series of beginner mistakes, it could cost lives running into the millions upon millions. One of those lives might be yours, or someone you care about.

Lincoln gave great speeches, but his actions filled the graveyards, grieved nearly every family in the Nation, and ended slavery on such horrid terms that they gave rise to abuses that were far worse than slavery ever was. Some cures are worse than the disease, some solutions make the problem look good. Lincoln managed to do precisely this with his Presidency. But by all means, continue to compare Barack Obama to Lincoln as a justification for electing him President. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen? Right?

Lincoln was once shining his own shoes, when a member of his staff said “you can’t shine your own shoes, you are the president.” To which Lincoln responded, “Then whose shoes can I shine?” I am sure I am mis-quoting somewhat, but the gist of it is accurate. Where do we such humility today? Certainly not Nobama.

Wait until he’s president then you’ll see more fraud. The guy’s entire record is based upon nothingness , and unwillingness to vote on difficult matters, a bunch of used car salesman one liners and being black in a white majority.

The way he appoints people like Jeremiah Wright and then fires them speaks volumes about how he will appoint “credible” people to his staff.

Wake up stupid America. Don’t sell your country away to people like this. Bush was dumb enough but this guy is even worse.

How, precisely, could Lincoln have avoided secession? Some (my college history teaching brother for one) would argue that the “war” and march to secession started much earlier, after the Kansas-Nebraska act of 1854 (those who teach at or attended public schools may have to Google that). The shooting actually started along the Kansas-Missouri border, and finally erupted into full-scale war at Fort Sumter.

The issue was states rights, defined by the belief that individual states could determine if they would be free or slave. Certainly Lincoln could have prevented secession and the bloodshed that followed, but he would have had to acknowledge that the slave-owners could continue to keep their “property” (God forgive us, the very concept that one human being could “own” another is obscene in itself). The southern states was adamant – the states had the right to determine if their citizens could buy, sell and keep slaves as property; the Federal Government had no right to tell them otherwise.

Was Lincoln perfect? No, like all of us he was a flawed human being. But he was firm in his beliefs, and those beliefs did have tragic consequences. But was he right? Since the alternative was the continued bondage of black Americans, what could Lincoln have done?

Sorry, didn’t mean to hijack this thread, but once again lgm has led us astray.

Here comes Teddy “I have never eaten a salad in my entire life” Kennedy- Dressed in a fab baby blue Generalissimo outfit with a bottle of scotch as his “scepter”.

Next, the NANCE!!!- Wrapped in sheer PVC body suit, zippers about the eyes and mouth (they cannot let her possibly open her mouth or face facts with the deer in the headlights look). Shabang!

Oh…oh look…it’s Harry…awe. He is wearing a lovely sequinned jumpsuit and he has a new firecracker red wig.

Is anyone really surprised that Team BO presented this muckery to the sheep that practically lick his shoes on a daily basis? Just wait till later this upcoming week. I am sure Team BO will provide yet another fantastically exciting piece of total sophomoronic stupidity that will “excite” the troopers, sheep, and truthers even more.

I wish I could just tivo the entire world on this one. Gosh, historians a thousand years from now would say: “now those people were stupid.”

    DemCON 08 will be exciting.

Don’t let it bother your history prof that the issue of slavery was far from the central issue in the war between the states. Lincoln never intended to free the slaves, he did not fight the war to free the slaves. On his watch, the blood of a half million people was shed. That’s the modern equivalent of losing 5-6 million lives today. Given that his goals had nothing to do with freeing black men from bondage, it certainly is possible that a man with greater experience could have avoided such a terrible price paid.

From the RMN article on Wednesday:

“The vast majority of people who get credentials won’t have to volunteer,” [Matt Chandler, a spokesman for the Obama campaign] said. “The folks who might have accidentally hit the ‘volunteer’ tab, they don’t have to worry. They’re in the same place in line.”

People asked to volunteer are those in line for “all star” tickets that will put them closer to the stage, and they are being contacted first, said Stephanie Mueller, campaign spokeswoman. Applicants who didn’t offer to volunteer will be contacted later this week, she said.

From the RMN article cited above:

“This was absolutely a first- come, first serve,” [Stephanie Mueller, a spokeswoman for the Obama campaign] said.

She said that volunteers got no preferential treatment.

Insert foot into mouth. Not easy being a campaign spokesperson, I guess.

From votingdem’s comment also cited above:

Matt said he and the Obama campaign had no control over the ticket process, and blamed the Democratic National Committee.

Is this the same Matt (Chandler) that is quoted in Wednesday’s article, now passing the buck to the DNC?

Why don’t they just have Obama speak from the top of a nearby mountain or something?

My opinion is that this is all a bunch of sour grapes, though. If I volunteered, I think I’d deserve first dibs, too. But how does something apparently so simple become so complicated? By promising too much. Sign of things to come, methinks.

Aside to JT: Sure, we can criticize Obama. His medical plan is too conservative, he doiesn’t raise taxes on dead millionaire’s enough and his pentagon budget remains bloated.

    Happy?

I’m fine. I’m a Reagan conservative, that means I’m right, especially when dealing with a lib.

    1) Obama’s medical plan sucks. Socialized medicine does not work. PERIOD. Canada and England’s plans are crap. Everyone has coverage but not everyone gets care. Do you want to wait months for an MRI or a Catscan? Then months for a specialist? Or do want to be told that the treatment you need is too expensive and the govt is going to let you die instead. Happens in Oregon right now. A lady needs a special chemo treatment to extend her life. It was denied, but the State will pay for her assisted suicide. If the drug company didn’t decide to donate the care, she’d be dead. Welcome to socialized medicine. You really want a govt the backrupted Social security and medicare, to run our healthcare system?

    2) The millionaire already paid taxes on that money. He/She should be able to pass on that money tax free. And be careful what constitutes millionaire, the bar keeps getting lower. Between house, retirement accounts etc., more “regular” American could be hit with that tax. Smacks of redistribution of wealth. Take money from the earners and give to the slackers.

    3) I’m for cutting waste in the military, but we need more money invested in the military. Instead of 4%, it should be at least 6% of the budget. I’d work it up to 7 or 8% over the next decade. We have China, Middle East and others to worry about. And hey it will even protect liberals. Clinton’s military cuts in the 90’s, caused the problems we have to fix now.

More like laying down sod. Even the German Wermacht knew that the US would need to go after the Soviets. One thing that was hoped for when they surrendered was that the US would immediately use the remaining German Army, once Hitler and his cronies were done and dead, and go straight into fighting with the Soviets. The last thing that anyone wanted was for the Soviet Union to keep what they had taken, let alone stay in power. But hey, Hitler didn’t listen to his generals, why would Roosevelt? Lord knows Patton wasn’t wanting to keep going all the way to Moscow.

They will quickly learn that the elite will still get the best seats in the house. Except under the democrats, it will be a closed society. Hard work and desire will mean nothing, only your views and beliefs will count, your allegiance to the party. People will no longer be able to work their way to a better life. The social classes will be defined by the party, the same way the tickets were distributed. Why is this so hard for Obamaniacs to comprehend?
