Sore loser: Obama and Obamedia accuse McCain of “cheating”

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 18, 2008 12:52 AM

No, really. The Obama camp and its media water-carriers are seriously accusing John McCain of “cheating” in his appearance over the weekend at Rick Warren’s Saddleback church forum because he was in his motorcade when the program started– and then escorted to an empty room without media hook-ups. NBC’s Andrea Mitchell spread the unsubstantiated rumor that somehow McCain heard Obama’s questions while on his drive. The nutroots went, well, nuts. The NYTimes piled on (“Despite Assurances, McCain Wasn’t In a ‘Cone of Silence’“). The McCain camp has protested.

And now we have the spectacle of the Democrat presidential nominee and his press entourage bleating about the “cone of silence” because he didn’t fare as well as his opponent.

Yes, the Obama has just confirmed that it is operating in a cone of abject stupidity. Maybe a little less fun in the sun next time, eh, Barry O?

The event wasn’t even head-to-head. How is the Obama team going to behave should The One wipe out in an official debate this fall? The wah-mbulance will be working overtime.

Oh, and I think we know where the Left is headed again. Remember “Is Bush Wired?”

Predicting a massive run on tin foil from now until November…

***

More:

Warren told CNN Sunday evening, “we flat out asked him” if he heard any of the questions. The McCain campaign “confirmed that McCain did not hear or see any of the broadcast” in the motorcade or after he arrived, Ross said.

When asked if McCain overheard anything, Charlie Black, a McCain adviser who was with him at the time, told CNN: “We were in motorcade until 5:30 p.m. ET; then a holding room in another building with no TV.”

Warren said, “I trust the integrity of both” candidates, and said he “knew they would abide by the rules.” He joked McCain may not have been in the cone of silence, but “he was in the cone of a Secret Service motorcade”.

Scott Ott: Har. How McCain breached the cone.

You’re right, MsJustice, but that’s not what has the Obama camp wringing their hands and complaining after Obama’s dismal Saddleback performance.

If it were only telecast to commenters here you’d could make a larger, base point. The fact is it was taken in by not just the immediate target audience but also by the general public.

Not to mention the media attention. Oops, I just mentioned it! :)

At any rate, you are right that it’s not us lowly commenters here the Obama campaign are worrying about. However, that’s exactly the point folks are making:

Wrong, that has been the lefts whole point, that McCain cheated

I am not “the left”. I don’t defend everything you think “the left” says, or even everything liberals actually say. I speak only for myself.

McCain broke the deal, which is the definition of cheating. I don’t know whether he got information, and neither do you.

In many sports (cycling, track & field, …), professionals agree to random unannounced out of competition drug testing. They agree to notify officials where they will be at all times so they can be tested. Last year, Michael Rasmussen (Danish bike rider) was kicked out of the Tour de France not for doping, but for not being where said he would be for out of competition testing. We don’t know whether he was doping, but we don’t know he was clean.

    It’s the same with McCain.

It was about adoption, Dave, and you are correct – Obama did confess to cheating at least that question. Both campaigns were given some specific questions and a general outline of topics beforehand.

If McCain continues the Bush policies and our economy continues to tank, and things don’t improve overseas, the Dems will pick a better choice in 2012. I am chilled out, and I expect Obama to win a very close election due to the states he will carry. We’ll see. I don’t think Saddleback matters at all, and I don’t think Obama blew any opportunities.

You’ve been around, and you gotta agree that nobody will remember the very uneventful, Saturday, August 16th, 2008 a month from now.

MsJustice, it’s the seemingly little things that get ya. Like Ford “freeing” Poland in the 76 debates and Dukakis’ Obamaesque response to a rape-death penalty question in 88. It’s the “drip, drip, drip”. Not refering to Obama with that :)

I wouldn’t depend too much on polls though they sometimes give a good idea of a general trend. The tendency/temptation is for folks is to believe whatever poll confirms their take at any given time. If you can develope a non-partisan “gut-feeling” of the electorate, that’s just as helpful.

Another area where this was a success for McCain is in framing. Obama is being framed as a clueless celebrity who gives “nothing” speeches. The other night he fit that framing perfectly.

I think the most telling thing on this, (and probably the best commentary) is while Republicans pretty much agree that McCain looked great and pounded Obama witless, the Democrats aren’t making that argument for Obama.( At least outside of the Spin Room area.)

They know Obama was outclassed and are looking for explanations of how this could possibly have happened(?!?!!). That is, instead of just taking the lumps and saying “we’ll get ya later”.

I don’t know if Obama’s poor performance was a surprise to his camp or not. But I would be surprised if they’re happy with it and are not doing some tinkering with his Q&A handling.

I agree the head2head debates will be very telling unless they both go into with “damage control” as their goal, just trying to avoid saying anything wrong. I’m thinking lively debates would be to McCain’s advantage and dull lets-get-this-over-with ones to Obama’s.

The “X” factor is always looming, too. Russia, Iran, who knows what will occur in the next few months? Events that neither candidate have control over can become driving and deciding factors.

But for now, McCain supporters can feel bouyed by his good showing. That’s good enough for now.

As a medical student, I have seen how abortions are performed. It’s a very fast and painless procedure.

You make it sound so clinical and palatable. Try this on for size:

Nahariya, Israel (LifeNews.com) — An unborn child who became a victim of abortion in Israel reportedly come back to life hours later despite spending five hours in a freezer following the abortion. The incident points to the humanity of a baby before birth and the frequent cases of botched abortions.

Following the abortion, the father of the child asked to see the baby girl. After officials pulled her body from a cooler at the Western Galilee Hospital where the abortion was done, they discovered she was still alive.

“I’ve been a doctor for 35 years and this is the first time I’ve ever seen such a thing happen. This is somewhat of a medical miracle,” Dr. Moshe Daniel, deputy chief of staff at the hospital, told the Jerusalem Post.

The incident could prompt both an internal hospital and external governmental investigation into the failed abortion.

“We’ve informed the Health Ministry and I guess they’ll appoint a commission of inquiry. The hospital will ask for an external investigation of the case,” Daniel said.

According to the newspaper, the mother of the baby was 26 weeks into the pregnancy at the time of the late-term abortion. A medical test showed she was supposedly experiencing internal bleeding and doctors indicated the baby showed no signs of life.

The baby reportedly had no pulse at the time of the abortion and weighed 610 grams. Physicians pronounced her dead and she was taken to a medical cooler.

After they retrieved her body, officials saw her start to breathe and she was rushed to intensive care.

Daniel told the Post he didn’t think the infant girl would survive.

“Because of just how premature she is, her chances are very slim,” he said. “Then again, she already saw divine intervention once so you never know. We’re doing everything we can for her.”

That stands in contrast to what doctors and nurses at a Chicago-area hospital did eight years ago that prompted Illinois legislators, and Congress, to vote for a bill to protect newborns who survive failed abortions.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has come under fire for opposing it.

So, I guess none of you have noticed the responses from the McCain camp that flat out say he wasn’t in a “cone of silence”. The explanation of where he was and what he had access to is totally parsed:

    Question: Did McCain overhear anything?

Answer: “We were in motorcade until 5:30 p.m. ET; then a holding room in another building with no TV.”

Why not just say “no”? He was in the freaking car at least 30 mins into Obama’s turn and you can’t handle the rumor/suggestion that they turned the TV/radio on?

Whatever he did or didn’t hear, he was definitely not in the “cone of silence” Pastor Warren promised us about.

Both sides parse words like this and I recognize the parsing no matter who is doing it. Can I ask you all to read it again, pretend Obama is the one defending his actions and tell me how you’d react to the answers that McCain offered.

The way they answered the question makes it pretty obvious to me McCain had access to some of the questions beforehand. This has nothing to do with who I think “won” this event. It has everything to do with the lame excuse of an answer McCain’s camp is giving…

These are the issues that are good for Obama. Discussing the cheating issue is Republican strategy.

You’ve been discussing the cheating angle and pushing until you hit a wall (both candidates been given a few questions and subject areas in advance, Barry even admitted to looking at another question before the forum)

This shows me that the only way that the Dems could ever have such a good noght would be if they did cheat, thus they feel that McCain MUST have cheated. This is just sick and pathetic.

I can see how the Liberals, especially those fruit loops over at Kos could start this type of rhettoric, but for the Golden Calf’s own campaign to not only partake in such a thing, but to actually have started it…well they are not even worthy of an elementary school Student Council Election, let alone the election for the most powerful person in the world.

When is McCain and his group finally going to take off the gloves and realize that if they want McCain to actually win, they need to turn this into the street fight that it needs to be. As long as they play the Liberal’s game, they don’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell of winning the election.

Instead of hurling insults, perhaps you should take the time to read my comment more carefully. My comment has to do with the McCain response, which isn’t a blanket “no, we did not hear any questions while the Obama portion of the event was taking place.” That’s all McCain had to say. But instead, he parses words, saying “we had no live broadcast” or some other generic phrase that does not rule out anything. My comment has nothing to do with the fact that some questions were made available to the candidates before hand. But nice try at deflecting my point (as did everyone who responded to me….figures). Actually responding to my point would force you to admit McCain is parsing. Whatever.

Nice comeback, but I don’t agree. This entire flap was caused by McCain people going ballistic over one sentence spoken by a news person on TV.

ONE sentence, A (as in single newsperson)?

Come on, LGM! Rush had playback of almost 10 different journalists talking about the “cone of silence.”

The liberal MSM is scrambling to defend Obama because let’s face it: He lost this round, okay?

They propped him up into something he isn’t and now that the REAL Obama is showing himself, now they must come to the rescue!

Obama did not offer it as an excuse. Obama supporters agree that his answers were not influenced by McCain listening in (if he was).

The reason why Obama isn’t making it an excuse is so he doesn’t further discredit himself. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was told to keep his mouth shut so the media can do all the defending for him.

If the McCain people had said: “Yes, he was supposed to be in isolation, though he was not in the beginning. We apologize for our failure to comply with this aspect of the agreement. We state for the record that John McCain did not listen in nor was he given any information about the questions.” That would (might) have been true.

Yeah, and then what? You’d just say you wouldn’t believe him, then or talk about some other republican scandal. You’d never say “how nice of the republicans to do that.”

Instead they made themselves look foolish by blaming Obama for their violation of the agreement.

LGM, who’s blaming Obama? We’re talking about the media here.

It’s “might” instead of “would” because McCain’s people have not actually denied that they listened and provided their candidate with information.

So what if he did? Is Barack Obama, the guy you AND the media have been defending for months now, Mr. Tough who’s gonna meet with all the foreign dictators, really going to scream that McCain may have had a slight advantage?

What do you think will happen when he goes to Caracas or Tehran? Do you think they’ll level the playing field for him, lgm?

All your whimpering proves is that Barack Obama isn’t fit to be in any sort of role in the government, and it’s mainly his skin color and age and looks that driving the show.

Howard Dean, you can quote me on that.
