Biden on Obama: He’s a Johnny-come-lately copycat
It’s no longer on the joebiden.com website, but you can dig up Joe Biden’s classic slam of his potential running mate Barack Obama on The Wayback Machine. I know, I know. The snort factor of Biden complaining about anyone else copying him is a 10. But I digress. Click here or just read it in full below. Smirk:

BIDEN CAMPAIGN CONGRATULATES SEN. OBAMA FOR JOHNNY-COME-LATELY POSITION
Published: 08/01/2007
Wilmington, DE (August 1st, 2007 ) – The Biden for President Campaign today congratulated Sen. Barack Obama for arriving at a number of Sen. Biden’s long-held views on combating al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Much of what Senator Obama has proposed Senator Biden has already initiated or accomplished.
Senator Biden was the co-author of the Afghanistan Freedom and Support Act of 2002 that authorized the original reconstruction and security assistance for Afghanistan. Since 2005, he has repeatedly called for significantly increasing reconstruction assistance. He is the lead co-author with Senator Hagel of the new Afghan Freedom and Support Act of 2007 which will be introduced in September and will authorize significantly increased reconstruction assistance for Afghanistan.
As part of the 9/11 bill that passed Congress last week, Senator Biden and Representative Lantos wrote the law that conditions aid to Pakistan on its cooperation with the United States in combating Al Qaeda and the Taliban. Before writing the law, Biden wrote to President Musharraf and Secretary Rice making clear his intent to do so.
Starting in January, Senator Biden has repeatedly called for surging more forces out of Iraq and into Afghanistan.
At a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on January 30th, 2007, Sen. Biden discussed the need for a surge in Afghanistan at Senate Foreign Relations Committee Hearing.
Sen. Biden said to Ambassador John Negroponte, “And if we’re going to surge anywhere, Mr. Ambassador, you will probably hear from some on the committee beyond me, but you’ll clearly hear on the Senate floor, we think that surge should be Afghanistan, not Iraq, where the Taliban appears to be making a serious comeback. So there may be some questions about Afghanistan, as well.” [Senate Foreign Relations Committee Hearing, 1/30/07]
At this same hearing, Sen. Obama asked two questions – he did not address Afghanistan or Al Qaeda or Taliban. T he first was on the topic of Iran; the second was on an issue that he admitted “seems somewhat parochial, but I think, as you’ll see, is of concern across the world.” Obama discussed the “stunning level of mercury in fish” and asked about a proposal for the U.S. adopt a ban on mercury sales abroad? [Senate Foreign Relations Committee Hearing, 1/30/07]
Similarly on March 8th, Sen. Biden convened a hearing on a new strategy for Afghanistan: Repeated Call for Troop Surge to Eradicate Taliban. In his opening statement Sen. Biden said, “Success in Afghanistan is still possible … if we surge forces anywhere, it should be in Afghanistan, not Iraq.” [Senate Foreign Relations Committee Press Release, http://www.senate.gov/~foreign/testimony/2007/BidenStatement070308.pdf, 3/8/07]
At this hearing, Sen. Obama asked one question that was unrelated to Taliban or Afghanistan. Addressing Retired General James Jones Jr., Obama asked, “General, thanks for the very useful testimony. I want to focus on where both of you ended up, and Ambassador Dobbins, as well, and that’s on the issue of Pakistan. Given your history there, your relationship with both the Pakistani military on the ground, as well as their government, can you give me a sense of what their strategic objectives are, and what we can do to encourage them to be more aggressive or more cooperative in the efforts? I tend to agree with the ambassador’s point that, if we pretend that we’re going to do things here that we’re not going to do, that’s not particularly effective, and that sanctions may not be particularly effective. On the other hand, we need to encourage a different approach on their part. Any thoughts on that?” [Senate Foreign Relations Committee Hearing, 3/8/07]
Sen. Biden has been talking about this for over 6 months. Dating back to January 5th, Sen. Biden said America Should Surge Troops in Afghanistan. He told the Washington Post, “If we’re surging troops anywhere, it should be in Afghanistan,” Biden said. Adding troops there would give the United States “the moral high ground” in its quest for more forces from NATO allies. [Washington Post, 1/5/07]
“We find it a little disingenuous that Sen. Obama is hailing this as a new bold initiative when he has neglected to join his colleagues in the Senate when the opportunities have been there to redirect our forces into Afghanistan” said Biden for President Campaign Manager Luis Navarro. “It’s good to see Sen. Obama has finally arrived at the right position, but this can hardly be considered bold leadership.”

The potential for jokes is enormous. Of course, Biden will claim he wrote them all first….
Talk about the pot calling the kettle bl… oh wait, I can’t say black anymore.
This election is getting to the point I have to laugh or go nuts. I do the laugh thing, keep the old BP down to 300/150.
L
Voodoo economics?
Everything will be fine.
Just remember where you read that first, Joe. LOL!
If Biden gets the VP nod, it’ll be lots of fun to watch him dance around all of these landmines.
Mebbe his hair transplants are growing in the wrong direction?

Wrong again Joe. As Obama has already stated that he supported these positions in a speech he gave in a Public Speaking 101 class.
so was biden against obama before he was for him?
go figure
BO / JB ticket? The BS ticket. So maybe we should somehow harness their flatulence. It could help us with the energy crisis.
Always looking on the bright side of things. In this case maybe its more like the moon-side.
I heard that Senator Joe has a whole library filled with Cliff Notes. No books, just Cliff Notes.
I personally think he’ll go with Evan Bayh, as he’s had more exposure nationally in the past. Biden would be the biggest mistake and he knows it.
No. No. No.
It was in Hawaii, back in the “That Afghani hashish gives me a rush” years.
Biden as VP pick would only be the right choice.
It is the combining of one man who thinks he is God, and one man who is convinced he is.
Speaking of Um… anyone hear Obama’s 40 minute speech that Rush condensed to 8 minutes worth of ums,ahs and I think? Very funny stuff… so little substance, just a suit. He reminds me of a hollow chocolate easter bunny.
Fixed it for you.
So we’re not going to send them and CFL????
But I thought you were going to lower the oceans…
He reminds me of a hollow chocolate
easterramadanbunnylamb (who’d lead the rest of the to the slaughter).A while back someone said bho is clean and articulate, who was that? Was that biden?
Neat, and clean, and articulate, I believe is what The Plagiermeister said.
So we’re not going to send them
and CFLany CFLs.Obama / Nagin ‘08
Ray could ride Pennsylvania Ave to the inauguration in his uniform.
sambo, thinking same thing but they are sending CFL’S to us from China, which last I heard is where they all come from. Demblubs for Odimbo with Demwits for followers.
An Obama-Biden ticket would be great!
“Two Plagiarists – NO waiting!”
From China they will plagiarize forced abortion and repression of free speech. From Castro they will plagiarize “health care”. From Europe, appeasement of Islamists….
Wow, stop the press. Primary candidate said something disparaging about one of his opponents. Almost as damning as McCain’s Mitt-Flop Romney “Candidate of Change” remark.
Big O and Big Joe (ego wise)? I really think both McAmnesty and Obama are playing a game to see who can lose this thing.
I’ve been sober for a few years now, but the prospect of a McCain/Lieberman/Ridge vs Obama/Biden election could change all that really fast.
Thank you, Sergeant, I had forgotten about that ridiculous outfit (why do civilians think that the beret is supposed to look like a mushroom cap on one’s head?), and putting Nagin on Obamoron’s ticket would almost guarantee the Dem’s defeat. The guy is a nimrod.
Same here. It seems like since I stopped drinking I’ve finally got an excuse to get drunk. Not really, I don’t want that life back but………
Zing! Slam dunkage continues
For me listen to Biden is like a “Mars Attaks” Martian listening to Slim Whitman music.
I think the doctor stuck several of those hair plugs a little too deep…
The Maverick is still angling for your vote then, D2! -
Get Drunk And Vote 4 McCain
Biden is a flame-throwing fool. Good for having more than one foot in his mouth at a time, he’s nothing but a cog in the machine who’d fit into Barry Obama’s change theme very nicely.
And by “change” Barry really means “change in packaging” but delivering the same old crap product. Turd polishing at its finest!
Caller on a local talk-radio show nails it regarding a possible Biden VP slot:
Biden couldn’t come up with a coherent plan to combat crabgrass in his lawn.
If Obama does pick him, I sure hope some debate host has the guts to call Biden out on all of this. It would be fun to watch him squirm.
Please let it be Biden. Mr. Hate and Discontent. This idiot with his mental masturbation Swift Boats himself.
Lets be fair folks. Biden is a typical Washington insider. Goes where the wind blows and knows how to get rich using his office. A generic politician is what we’ve been waiting for. He has a trail that can be used against him.

12 step program. Believe in a higher power and pray really really hard.
Thanks FamilyMan I’ve tried 12 step programs for many years and they didn’t work. I found a one step program that does work (over 12 years now). I appreciate your concern but I was really only being sarcastic. And you are right……….we all need to pray very hard about the sad state of our nation.
Hold on, I think From the photo above, what Joe is really going for is raising the roof.

politics
1. the one and only place on earth where “My Esteemed Colleague” means “This Prick Here.” Biden about Obama
2. the place where “they” (see politicians) tell me how screwed up I am, and immediately thereafter demand 44% of my screwed-uppedness.
We have a few months to go. Enjoy the ride.

I thought he was impersonating Monica Lewinsky…

ROFLOL That is funny cause it is so true
Um, Negroponte was Deputy Secretary of State on 1/30/07. He was Ambassador to Iraq (2004-2005), and before that Ambassador to the UN (2001-2004).
And Biden was describing him as “Ambassador,” on 1/30/07, while Obama was asking him about mercury in fish…do they do drugs much in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee?
Biden, hmmmm. The revised Obama campaign slogan would have to be:
“The Same Idea, Generated By Someone Else And Stolen By Us, We Can Believe In!”
For any libs who need that defined, it is a play on Biden’s documented issues with plagarism. See, by replacing the word Change to my version of the campaign slogan I have created a pun highlighting Joe’s prior plagaristic mentality. If you have any further trouble grasping the concept, please go to the nearest Ben & Jerry’s and twirl in circles for 15 minutes while chanting “I have seen the Messiah and He is us”.
Are they trippen? Nichevo There is no other explanation.

Easy on that third pot of coffee.
Familyman:
I am just giddy over the thought of Biden as the Obama Veep choice. If it goes that way and McCain chooses his VP wisely, we could see the Dems take a whupping at the polls in November. Like most of you on this site I was not please initially with McCain as the nominee. I have gained some respect for him after the forum the other night and believe there is some hope for us in November. If he would come to his senses on Immigration he could win in a landslide.
travlinman
If McCain wins we will have 4 years of roasting feet.
FamilyMan
Thus the dilemma for most of us who want what is best for America. Do we take chances with McCain and our lingering doubts about some of his idiotic stances, or do we bed down with the other devil of which we know will destroy a huge portion of our country’s fabric, as fragile as it may currently be. Sigh.
Rating – foul ball.
Biden’s web page simply said “Johnny Come-lately” – they did not say “copycat”.
This was back in August 2007, when the Dem primary was just kicking off – and the Biden campaign accurately forsaw Obama as a main contender.
With the sharp increase in Taliban attacks in the last few days – it certainly gives creedence to Biden calling for a surge in Afghanistan back then – and doing so before Obama.
If it turns out the Democrats win the presidency – I would feel a lot more comfortable with Biden – then I would with other possibilities.
But, I have a feeling Biden is being used as a decoy until they announce their true VP choice.
(Stop Comment Abuse – 3 or less – ain’t such a mess)
Before Hannity went off air–Late breaking news–Biden said it’s not him. Oh, pooh.
Before Hannity went off air–Late breaking news–Biden said it’s not him. Oh, pooh.
…If it were only true…what perfect irony…chosing biden would be the definitive proof that biden is just another liberal liar…the o-bomb has already proven himself to not be “articulate” or “clean” and way less than “bright” in VP picks
The great and powerful Ozbama chooses……….
retired General Wesley Clark, as his V.P. choice, lending gravitas to his otherwise lightweight campaign.
I explain it all at my bloggie.
For anyone listening to Hannity today, he played a long Montage of Biden slamming Obama for his various positions. Either Hannity or someone has done some thorough opposition research on Biden and his quotes on Obama. So this is just GOLD for future campaign ads. Mostly Biden was calling Obama a complete novice and not ready to be President. This just keeps getting better and better.
I am fervently hoping Obama selects Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius. The reaction from the Hillary supporters would be something for the ages. Talk about going nuclear!
You don’t think they’d be overjoyed because it’s a woman?
Sebelius holds hands with CAIR. If Obama picks her, we’ll have to dig up the dirt on her nasty associations.
Re Travlinman @ #53. . .
Are you seriously making a question here? How can it *ever* be good to ‘bed down with the devil’ ?
IMHO if Obama is elected, he will do things to the US which perhaps could never be righted. Certainly not in your lifetime or mine (which is probably going to be shorter…) With all my heart I hope John McCain will be elected. He’s not perfect, no one is, but he’s 200% better than BHO.
Ponder Obama’s work in the Senate. In his 1996 book “Combat” on his years in the Senate, Warren Rudman said the Senate can be split into thirds. The top third who basically run it, the middle third who pursue their issues, and the bottom third who don’t do anything. He put Quayle in the middle. McCain, of course, would be in the top third. It would be charitable to put Obama in the middle third. But what has he done? Nothing to distinguish himself. He could easily be placed in the bottom third. So why would anyone vote for prez for someone in the bottom third of the Senate?
