Of head fakes and headaches

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 20, 2008 04:00 PM

Update: Vid here.

I’ll be on Neil Cavuto’s show in about 10 minutes to talk about the veepstakes and McCain’s footsie-playing games with a pro-choice VP pick.

Is it a head fake? Do you just have a headache? Feel free to sound off some more.

Just a headache. Its an interesting process, and the speculation is fun to an extent, but when McCain starts playing games with an issue like abortion he’s playing with fire. I don’t know why he can’t see that many of us would have a problem with a pro-choice VP…if he’s so strongly pro-life, why would you want someone on the ticket who disagrees on such an important issue? Ugh…

It seems more like McCain is/was seriously considering somebody who’s pro-choice; but at the end of the day it probably wouldn’t be worth it to go that route. As many votes as he might gain from fence-sitting pro-choicers, he’d lose from P.O.’d pro-life conservatives who are already receptive to reasons to stay home on election day.

The smart money has to remain on McCain choosing someone who’ll fit the Primary Rule of Veep Picks: “First, Do No Harm.” Pawlenty likely fits that description.

Pawlenty is a very boring, poltically-correct/nanny state Republican, Reg, though he’s pretty steady on tax issues. He won’t do much good on the ticket, but as you sez he would be as little harm. Kind of an “inoffensive placeholder”.

He’s been a longtime fan of McCain and I think the lapdog-admirer criteria is the deciding one for McCain. That’s why he’s keen on choices that would otherwise hurt him, e.g. Lieberman, Ridge.

How do they do it? Spreading rumors which their MSM fellow travellers then feed, and watch people like you and many others here go flying off the handle, slamming McCain publicly.

So you are a willing dupe to pull McCain back down for Obama.

Question him? Sure, but lets not go to the hysterical “I hate McCain” end of the pool at the merest mention of a whisper, and trun into a raving pitbull, virtually slavering all over the keyboard as you fill with bile that you are going to spew soon.

It reminds me of the irrational hatred you displayed for Fred Thompson during the primaries.

I just checked the GOP convention website to see the list of scheduled speakers. Guiliani is the only possible VP name that isn’t listed. Bobby Jindal is slated for Wed. right after Cindy McCain which I believe would make him the keynote speaker, followed by the yet-unnamed VP choice. This would lead one to believe that Guiliani could very well be McCain’s pick…. BUT

The Times-Pic in New Orleans just ran a story stating that Jindal is NOT the keynote speaker, Guiliani is. They said that Jindal will close out the evening by speaking AFTER the VP choice. According to the convention site, there is no one speaking after the veep. Why the heck would you do that anyway?

So now I’m thinking it’s either Guiliani or Jindal and they’re trying to confuse us. We’ll see how much more the schedule changes between now and the announcement.
