The fuss over Obama’s brother

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 20, 2008 04:56 PM

Much fun has been had with the story of Barack Obama’s “lost” brother, George Hussein Onyango Obama, who lives in a hut in Kenya.

It is said that Obama should have done more to help his impoverished sibling.

Actually, this may be one of the few times Obama did taxpayers a favor — by not bringing his unemployed brother here to live off the welfare state.

Perhaps, but isn’t family supposed to help each other?
I agree with many here that if Barack HUSSEIN Obama doesn’t even care enough about his own family to do anything, what would make us think he cares about the USA?

Seriously, I wish nothing but the best for this guy.

I’m starting to think BO ( forget the H ) has no heart at all. McCain cared more about his fellow prisioners in Nam than BO does about his own family. I think I just got off the fence. BO needs to just go away.

Wouldn’t it be great if just a few conservatives raised the money to sponser George, and bring him here for a better life. No thanks to his bro.

This constant invocation of Obama’s middle name is counterproductive. There are dozens of good reasons to vote against Obama, reasons based on actual policy and character flaws the man has. Harping on his name only makes it easier for him to say crap like this…

“They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?”

…and have people think “maybe he’s right”.

And the idiots who published this story have just made him the biggest target on that continent. Every criminal within a thousand miles of Nairobi knows Uuuuuuhbama is rich, after all he’s running for president, and they’re gonna want some of that money.

Right Mookie, but the reasons are Cindy McCain’s business and nobody else’s. People here are purposefully avoiding the comparison though.

We don’t know anything about the intimate details of how Obama gets along with George. Questioning Obama’s integrity based on this story is the height of reaching and simply pathetic. Moreover, if Obama started flying all of his Kenyan relatives over to America, a good portion of you would be screaming about how anti-American he is. You would judge such actions as highly suspicious, and showing his foreign roots. Get real. I’m talking about people with posts like 97 and 99.

Actually, this may be one of the few times Obama did taxpayers a favor — by not bringing his unemployed brother here to live off the welfare state.

Right, and where does it end? Should he make every living relative, no matter how distantly and flimsily related, financially comfortable? That doesn’t sound very conservative, or realistic.

    Isn’t Dixie’s mother Cindy’s mother? That makes them half-sisters.

I think a HALF BROTHER is a hell of lot more than a distant relative. My son only has one sibling, a half brother. If one became rich, and the other poor, I know they would help each other out, no matter what!

We don’t know anything about the intimate details of how Obama gets along with George.

It’s says they only met twice in their lives, how intimate could it be?

That’s your opinion, you’re entitled. Personally, I think this, along with the school he promised to help, shows the beginning of a pattern of lip service with no action. And that’s what I’m afraid you’ll get if he gets elected.

Exactly. Again, where does it end? What we be the anti-Obama chorus if he started finanicially supporting every Kenyan relative, no matter if he knew them well or not? As you alluded to, he hardly knows the guy. This is another example of a no-win siutation for Obama, and petty unhingement from the right.

    IMHO of course.

I can’t help but think, What kind of person would leave a brother in that world, once he had enough money to bring him here for a better life

Right now, the USA needs a lot of work, it is so bad. George Bush has ruined this country. His brother can wait until Obama fixes Georges mess.

$1 a month. Wow. Maybe he could at least send him $12 until he fixes this country up.

LOL. Hannity is a conservative. He should get him a job, and a chance to succeed.
This would be a cute gimmick from that A$$clown. I can’t wait to see Media Matters track down every single relative Hannity has right here in America. They’ll find some impoverished ones that he’s met “once or twice”. Please let Hannity actually try to pursue this.

This must be the son of his father from a prior marriage? Hopefully his mother wouldn’t leave a child in Africa.

Still, no one I know would leave a blood relative in penury, especially those making far less than the O’s.

Hopefully the Pubs will use this during the upcoming couple of months.

I’m going out on a limb here, but I’m gonna guess they aren’t going to find a brother of Hannity’s who is living off of a single dollar per month.

It depends on what you mean by a “blood relative”. Whether you believe in Adam & Eve, or in common descent, we are all related to each other.

My family is relatively small, and no, none of them are in poverty.

We can’t help everyone, but we can at least help those close to us – you know, like a brother.

I think most people that are millionaires, whose own brother was living in a 1 room shanty, off of $1 dollar a month, would be willing to help. Especially one who talks about how one of America’s greatest failings is that we don’t live up to the verse “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.”
