Hello…Bayh? Update: Or not?

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 22, 2008 06:11 PM

Hmmmm.

In addition the bumper sticker buzz, I received this e-mail from a reader:

“A good friend of mine just informed me that his good friend in IL has his hands deep into selling political T-shirts and he got word that Evan Bayh from Indiana will be his running mate for VP.”

Update: MSNBC says Bayh and Kaine are out.

Bayh would actually be the best choice for Obama and the worst choice for McCain. Bayh is well-spoken, perceived as relatively moderate, and has little baggage. I still hope he picks Biden. That would be a slam dunk for McCain to win, lest of course, he himself picks someone horrible.

Isn’t it sad that the Presidential campaign is hinging on who they pick as VP? Didn’t we go through a whole voting process to select party nominees, and now many are basing their votes on the VP who is selected, not elected, to use a phrase appropriately?

PS – I like the Sixteen Candles reference. Too funny, but spot on…in the end I don’t care because America loses with either candidate IMHO.

She’s on the board of E*Trade Bank, a subsidiary of E*Trade Financial Corp., while her husband sits on the Senate Banking Committee. Susan Bayh is lead director at Emmis Communications Corp., an Indianapolis radio-station operator that published Evan Bayh’s 2003 memoir.

This is the kind of Change Obama is hoping for. He managed to get his wife’s hospital a big donation and she got a big promotion (unrelated I’m sure) but his Hope is that someday the two of them can work these bigger scams.

But you are correct, Sebelius would divide Catholics to some extent. Unless she, like Kerry, undergoes scrutiny on her pro-choice views, as you’ve just explained. But all that might be ignored because she is a woman…which is the whole point of choosing her.

Not needed. She’s been peeled and examined in the public eye for about 16 years. She is a wildcard pick, and she would turn off a lot of voters. On the other hand, she could actually help Obama win some votes(some women and some seniors). It’s a close call with her. Hopefully Obama got assurances from her that she’ll give a rousing pro-Obama convention speech and campaign like hell. Hopefully. The Clintons do have the power to cost Obama this election. We’ll see.

Evan Bayh- a fiscally conservative moderate democrat. He’s extremely safe. He has foreign policy, economic, and executive experience. He’s also boring and entirely too nice. The veep is supposed to be an attack dog. That’s why I prefer Biden, whose tough, experienced, and also can debate his butt off.

I just read a bio for Mr. Bayh on Drudge. Is it accurate?
He sounds better than most of the VP candidates linked to McCain.

“Mr. Bayh’s record,” reported the Wall Street Journal in 1992, “is one of a genuinely fiscally conservative Democrat.” Stressing fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, job creation and lean government, Bayh’s list of achievements include: eight years without raising taxes; the greatest single tax cut and largest budget surplus in state history…

It also shows that tax cuts and budget surpluses go hand in hand, even for Democrats. I can’t believe Obama would choose someone like that – unless he wants us to believe he is fiscally responsible until after the election…

Bayh is boring, and he is pro-life

I’m fairly sure Bayh is most certainly PRO-choice. He has voted to inform parents of minors about cross-statelines abortion. Otherwise, I’m pretty positive that Bayh is politically Pro/choice/abortion/infanticide…however anyone wants to put it.
The only pro-life candidate I know of is maybe Chuck Hagel or Sam Nunn.(I’m not sure about them). None of his leading candidates are pro-life. Everyone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure.

    Aloha guy #20,

I used to live in Michele Bachman’s district (Woodbury/stillwater, MN). I never considered her a candidate for VP, but agree that she would be very good.

JM needs to shake it up with a fine, conservative, family-centered, conservative woman.

Being a Hoosier, I hope Bayh has more sense than to get on board with Obama’s sinking ship. He was a decent governor here a few years ago. He is (was) fairly conservative on fiscal matters and pretty moderate on a lot of social issues. I would not call him “pro-life” as stated by a poster earlier.

    http://www.lifenews.com/nat4152.html

Anyway, I don’t think the VP adds that much to the policy of the administration as he serves to push the President’s agenda, not his own.

I would rather it be Biden. That would offer a lot more ammo for the GOP during the remainder of the campaign. Precisely why Bayh might be the one Obama picks to be his running mate.

How about Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska for McCain’s VP. Conservative woman may get the Hillary vote and defuse the “first black”, “first woman” mantra that everyone seems so interested in.

She looks good too so that would defuse us having to look at old man McCain.

Hm…If Bayh can reduce taxes and make surplus budget like he successfully did as Indiana governor, then may be Obama/Bayh combination will be better than McCain on fiscal conservativeness!!

The Indiana legislature created a “rainy day” fund during Bayh’s tenure as governor of the state. He did work hard to make some budget cuts and produce a surplus. He did not do it alone. He had the assistance of a fairly moderate Democrat leadership and the GOP members of the Indiana legislature. That period of time did show that teamwork for the common good can produce positive results.

Side note: With Mitch Daniels at the helm, Indiana is one of the only states in the entire midwest to be operating in the black. The Democrats hate him because he has done exactly what he promised during his campaign a few years ago. Daniels is currently running for re-election. Jill Long-Thompson, the current Democrat gubanatorial candidate would probably be a shoe-in to replace Bayh if he gets the nod and they win the White House in November, and Long-Thompson loses in November against Daniels.
