Poll: Coloradans “not jumping up and down” over DNC

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 22, 2008 08:16 AM

The coming of the Obamessiah isn’t impressing Coloradans. Yawn:

Jim McGinley and Joyce Anderson don’t mind that the Democratic National Convention is coming to Denver, just as long as they don’t have to be there.

Despite all the convention hoopla, a Rocky Mountain News/CBS4 News poll found more than half of Coloradans were either indifferent, annoyed or worried about the convention.

Less than 10 percent were thrilled.

“Clearly, Colorado voters are not jumping up and down about the DNC being held in Denver,” said pollster Lori Weigel.

The poll of 500 registered voters found that 34 percent were indifferent, 11 percent were annoyed and 9 percent were worried about the convention’s presence in Denver.

That compared with only 20 percent interested in the convention. Another 15 percent were excited and 9 percent thrilled, the poll found.

Not surprising. The worry that there will be riots and such is legitimate. Plus, all the traffic hassles around the city next week will annoy the commuters. I also wonder how clean that park where the protestors plan to gather and “educate” people on civil disobedience will be once the protesters leave. Something tells me the city will be paying people overtime to get things back into shape once the DNC leaves town.

When the DNC was announce for Boston they sold it as being great for the economy, it was going to bring thousands of visitors to the city, blah blah blah.

The reality was that other than hotels, catering and limo companies the city of Boston was shut out.

Public transportation ground to a halt. Subways were shut down because in some cases the went below meeting locations. Entire stretches of the only highway through town were shut down.

And the attitude was, if you have vacation time, use it.

Here’s how I see it, because politicians are whisked in and out of towns in their limos, they never get to see how real people live. They don’t get caught in the traffic jams they have created, they don’t have to take alternate routes to the convention centers, they just zip in and zip back out while working people are inconvienced. Totally unfair to the folks who pay their salaries.

A few traffic jams while the weirdos they attract look at them in their cars would be good for them.

AND! They actually had the protestors only allowed in a steel cage area under the highway several blocks from the garden, where no one going to, or from the convention, would ever have to deal with them. They looked like they were in a jail.

If the leaders in St. Paul are any indication it would probably be higher but for different reasons.

St Paul has rolled out the red carpet for the ‘protesters’ and accommodated them more than the actual convention attendees. The St Paul City Council is requiring a $2500 fee for St. Paul bars to be open late (4:00 am) while surrounding cities like Minneapolis are far less ($100).

This convention seems to be an event where police are setup to be taxpayer-paid protection for the protestors instead of making sure the convention attendees rights of free speech are protected. In a blue state this may be exciting or even inviting for the throngs of liberals here.

After what happened to Seattle when the same types came to “Peacefully Protest”, and then when the same types also came to Sacramento for the Ag Conference where hundreds were arrested for carrying “projectiles” and all the graffitti and such, I am surprised any town would ALLOW hem to come.

This time, rather than being able to claim that such things occurred as a result of what the police and such had done, rather than being able to claim that the violence and destruction was a “spur of the moment” act of “passion”, they are going out of their way to PLAN the destruction of the town, claiming they WANT to recreate what happened 40 years ago only making it WORSE.

If you ask me, anyone who would even WANT to belong to such an organization as the DNC is just as complicit in what they are planning and what they will do as the people actively participating. It is their rhettoric that got it all started.

Good luck Denver. Let’s all hope that what you see happening to your town will influence you and open the country’s eyes to everything the DNC and Liberals are and believe in.
