Hillary releases her hounds; Update: RNC hosts Hillary Happy Hour

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 24, 2008 11:37 PM

Bottoms up!

But will they follow her lead and throw their support to Barack Obama — or flip him the bird?

Anticipation:

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will tell her pledged delegates on Wednesday that they can vote for presidential hopeful Barack Obama at this week’s convention, several of her supporters said today.

Legally, delegates from 10 states who are elected to support a certain candidate are obliged to vote for that person, even if he or she isn’t running for president anymore. The rest of the state delegates can technically vote for whomever they want at the roll call.

By taking this action, Clinton is freeing up her pledged delegates in those states from their legal obligations.

Still many crestfallen Clinton delegates said Sunday they were still going to vote for her.

Hear the PUMAs roar.

Hot off the presses from the NYT and CBS, 42 percent of her delegates (20 percent of all delegates) say they’re ready to go PUMA. Will releasing them change that?

Still on schedule: The “Hillary Now/No Obamination – Hillary Now for McCain” rally on Thursday, 11:45am – 12:30pm from Mariposa Street to Federal/Invesco Field.

And there’s this:

Enraged by reports that Sen. Clinton was not even vetted to join the Obama ticket, some of her delegates are now circulating a petition to force a floor vote on Clinton for vice president. It’s hard for these diehards to understand why Clinton, who garnered 18 million votes, was passed over for Biden, whose standing in the polls was the same as comedian Stephen Colbert’s.

The delegate who organized the move, Texas high-school teacher Aaron Paz, says the petition needs at least 300 signatures. So far he has about 500 committments from national delegates to sign and circulate the petition.

The Paz crowd points out that the 1944 Democratic convention rejected President Franklin Roosevelt’s vice president, Henry Wallace, for another term – instead nominating Sen. Harry Truman of Missouri.
But the story’s more complex: Party leaders, concerned about his failing health, had already strong-armed FDR into ditching Wallace for Truman before the floor vote. No such thing will happen with Obama, obviously.

Paz & Co. recognize the uphill battle they face, but he says they have a “hospitality room, copies of the petition, clipboards, communication plans, timelines, speeches, floor rules and a strong dedication to make the party stronger with Hillary on the ticket.”

When Biden passes on, he’ll be buried on a hill by a tree in a horse pasture.
Some months later a contingent of dignitaries will visit, they’ll notice what a horse left there and they’ll ponder the meaning, after a bit they’ll all agree and say, ya know Joe, you just ain’t changed all that much.

I still think the state legislatures should pick senators. Makes the senate more responsive to the states, where power should be, and not to some popularity contest.

huh? what has that got to do with running the country? That’s not to say there aren’t supporter of her who couldn’t care less whether she’s a woman or not. But it’s indisputably a factor in many of her female supporters.

On the same note.. voting against her because she’s a woman is an equally asinine think to do.

I wouldn’t vote for either Clinton or Obama. And that has nothing to do with her being a woman or him being black. But I’d probably vote for Condi Rice… who is both black and female.

2012? Who says Hillary will be alive in 2012? Who knows what this country will be like, or who the other presidential contenders will be in freakin 2012? I can’t believe that some people would be willing to sacrifice their ideas and values simply because they can’t accept a fair and valid defeat. If you switch from Hillary to McCain(who has adopted nearly all of Bush’s policies) simply out of spite, and McCain wins, you reap what you sow. You have no right to complain for the next four years. Just bend over and repeatedly get helped over the fence. Shut up and enjoy it, because I won’t want to hear it.

Hilary is not going to attempt to take anything. She can not. To be in a position to run in 2012 she must appear to be a team player.

Biden and Obama lose. The “media” will blame it on folks who didn’t vote for Biden and Obama as being closet racists.

    I know what you mean.

Actually, I prefer Obama as the nominee because he will be easier to defeat in November. He is that inept.

However, if I had to choose between Obama and Hillary in the White House, I’d pick Hillary. Even though they are both socialists, I think Hillary has a better grip on reality than Obama does. She is also more ruthless. If a major American city was hit with a dirty bomb, I think Hillary would have the balls to respond decisively. Obama would be wringing his hands and plaintively asking, “Can’t we all just get along?”

    He is that wimpy.

I disagree. He’s a political rock star; perfectly appealing to a nation that admires celebrities more than patriotism.

But I do think he’s doing his darnedest to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Exactly. If Hillary alienated the Dems she would be finished for good. There is no way she could run as an Independent because they’re not her base. Hillary knows that Obama will probably lose this election. In 2012 she will run again, reminding the Dems that they backed a losing horse, and that she is the one who can win.

She’ll be back in 2012 with a vengeance.

But that appeal is among the college students – a group which is notorious for failing to show up at the polls.

Personality driven campaigns are empty. I have faith that the Independent voter will grasp that voting for the POTUS is not like voting for American Idol. They will see through Obama’s veneer of celebrity and recognize him for the empty suit he is.

Another factor is the media craze for Obama. Already there is indication of fatigue among American Independents. I wish I can locate the poll, but over 50% of them say that they think there is too much coverage of Obama and they are weary of it.

I’ve said earlier that all this media hoopla and adoration over Obama is going to bite him in the ass. Ordinary Americans are not that enamored with celebrity politicians – smacks too much of aristocracy – which is not American.

    I agree.

Both the 16th Amendment (Progressive Income Tax) and 17th Amendment (Popular Election of Senators) were passed by Congress and signed by the “Progressive” President William Howard Taft.

Unfortunately, “Progressive” means someone who follows the teachings of Karl Marx and his Communist Manifesto. Even present-day Communists equate the two, using phrases like

“Marxists have long hailed its progressive significance”

in the preamble of their Constitution.

Taft was certified as a genuine “progressive” by his predecessor, “progressive” President Theodore Roosevelt.

Unfortunately, John McCain calls himself a “Teddy Roosevelt Republican”. No wonder John McCain is “progressive” on issues like amnesty for 20 million “proletariat” and socialist AGW taxes. No wonder.

Do we really have to nominate a “progressive” as the Republican Party’s nominee?

It’s not official until the convention.

I believe that McCain did many unethical (if not illegal) things to go from 4th place finish in Iowa to “presumptive” nominee.

2 Stalking horses (Thompson & Giuliani).

The invalid Florida Primary (where Democrats were encouraged to vote for McCain and did so in large numbers).

Using RNC to pressure Romney and Huckabee to quit (just like pressure was put on Reagan to quit in 1976).

Possible stolen election in Washington state.

Refusal to attend two debates prior to Texas primary. (Feb 28th CNN debate and March 3rd Values Voter Debate).

I am praying for corruption to be exposed now, rather than after the official nomination.

It is so true, but don’t tell a Hillary supporter that she is the female Obama, they get really really angry.

Obama is a Rock Star due to his race. Hillary is a rock star because of her gender and her Husband.

    Still little difference.

The good news is that many Hillary supports see her gender as more valuable than Obama’s attributes. Many will not vote for Obama.
