Pelosi vs. fallen Marines
Nancy Pelosi brags about making the House of Representatives the “People’s House.”
“People” apparently doesn’t include fallen Marines:
His photos reflect his passion. U.S. Congressman Walter Jones R-NC has a picture gallery at his official website. Displayed prominently are dozens of images of the congressman alongside uniformed U.S. military personnel and concerned veterans. Among them, scenes of his opening dedication of a memorial to fallen solders stand out in the context of the newest House controversy.
Constitutional lawyer Bruce Fein wrote in an op-ed for the San Francisco Chronicle that a poster kept on the wall in the hallway next to the Congressman’s office had been removed. That poster had displayed the photos of U.S. Marines from Camp Lejeune, based in his district. All of them had been killed in Iraq. Jones has claimed that it was a memorial to those Marines.Some might view material such as this poster in the hands of anti-war organizations as a cynical political statement. But Walter Jones gets the benefit of the doubt because of his close affiliation with and the recognition given to him by veterans groups. His regard for them appears sincere.
The Republican congressman now opposes the War in Iraq after initially supporting it. He has even called for President Bush to apologize for the war. It seems that it is not political opposition to his views of the war that spurned Speaker Nancy Pelosi D-CA to order the removal of the poster. They were on the same ideological team in that regard. So what was it about the poster that bugged the Speaker?
The official reason given by the House was that it violated policy on advocacy material. As Mr. Fein describes it, that policy bans organizational material from being displayed in the hallway. The law would prohibit, say, the Speaker from brandishing an Amgen sign outside of her office. According to Mr. Fein, the placard contained no references to political action committees or advocacy groups of any kind. So what is the Speaker’s motive?

This story really challenged my emotions. On one hand there’s the obvious issue; Pelosi’s ignorance. On the other, Jone’s attitude. As a Marine, I say a pox on both of them.

i have said since i arrived home from service in 1973 that todays democrats are not just socialists, but anti military. they actively hate and want to destroy the military. their comrades in the msm try to cover up their loathing of our military, but it shines through at nearly every gathering of these chickens who think they are eagles.
She hates these so called “baby killers” but yet if these marines would be performing abortions either pre-birth or post-birth she would just love the marines if they were performing these destestable tasks. Just can’t figure this person out.

Pelosi hasn’t spent one day in uniform – she’s never had to hold an injured or dying serviceman/woman in her arms, or send them home one last time (I’ve done both too many times during my 26 years as a Corpsman). Until she and others of her mindset have “been there and done that”, she needs to STFU and give my brothers and sisters, both past and present, the respect that they deserve for stepping up and defending this country – during times of peace and war.

Something has to be done about considering military images as “advocacy”. We live in a country where the military is an apolitical institution.
Want a contrast? Think of the cliche of banana republics, where coups happen regularly. We are blessed to be as far from that as possible.
Democrats work as hard as possible to try to position anything pro-military as anti democrat party and position. Maybe the truth is closer to the fact that the dems openly despise the military, and the reason is that military members are, by and large, pro-American. The dems are not pro-American.
I call on anyone in our congressional infrastructure within the sound of my voice, to create legislation to make all military images posted within the capitol environment as “not advocacy”. The logic is plain although I’m sure it escapes many liberals.
I would write mine, but the majority of my own legislators are brain-dead, eye-bleeding horror film liberals who fly around on broomsticks. Did I just say that?
That’s just sad that she wouldn’t allow a non-advertisement featuring fallen heroes stay up. Maybe she was ashamed to see what true service to one’s country can mean and didn’t want the poster reminding her of that every time she walked past.

lgm, sometimes you can win the battle and lose the war. Democrats, unfortunately, excel at that. Regardless of the policy, it makes her look petty and can be spun to make her look anti-troop or whatever.
It was pointed out in comment # 34 above that lgm had his head wedged firmly where the sun doesn’t shine when he said the policy was “no posters.” The policy actually bans “organizational material.”
So lgm lost the battle and the war. As a liberal, he must be proud of that.
BTW, no spinning is necessary where it concerns Nancy’s anti-troop position.
She is invested in T. Boone Pickens latest venture which touts natural gas in the mid-term. The newsguy hosting the show actually got her to say how much (between $50,000 and $100,000 which I think she said was .03% of her wealth – but I probably have that percentage wrong), then followed up with a question about whether it was right to influence US policy in a way that benefits her financially. She looked like her head was going to explode, but fortunately, the botox held. Her eyeballs made an involuntary reflex though…

As the link (please read) above shows, this story is at least a month old …and there were “more than a dozen” congressmen displaying posters of Fallen Heroes – not just one.
Congresswoman Pelosi replied in a letter to them they could display the posters inside their offices.
It also points out – this whole thing resulted from the halls being too cluttered …the posters were never a target and….
I myself may not agree with Congresswoman Pelosi on certain issues -
but I doubt that I would ever question her respect for our fallen heroes and our military. (But I also wouldn’t mind seeing her bend the rules – so that the posters could be displayed in the hallways.)
