“South Side Girl;” Update: Message – Michelle loves America!; daughters on stage

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 25, 2008 10:27 PM

The DNC is now airing its kinder, gentler Michelle Obama video.

It’s titled “South Side Girl.”

Reminding the American public about her Chicago roots and ties.

Did someone maybe think this (Ayers..Wright..Rezko…UChicago hospital dumping plan…etc…etc…etc…) might not be a good idea?

10:33pm Eastern…Michelle’s brother, Craig Robinson, is speaking. Vodkapundit’s Steve Green just quipped at our blogger central: “Why isn’t one of Barack’s brother speaking?”

Snort.

10:39pm Eastern…She’s reading professionally from the teleprompter…but you know, she’s just an ordinary, civilian mom. Just like you.

10:46pm Eastern…Michelle gives Hillary Clinton a shout-out…applause…Joe Biden gets a shout-out…louder applause…

I stand here today at the crosscurrents of that history – knowing that my piece of the American Dream is a blessing hard won by those who came before me. All of them driven by the same conviction that drove my dad to get up an hour early each day to painstakingly dress himself for work. The same conviction that drives the men and women I’ve met all across this country:

People who work the day shift, kiss their kids goodnight, and head out for the night shift – without disappointment, without regret – that goodnight kiss a reminder of everything they’re working for.

The military families who say grace each night with an empty seat at the table. The servicemen and women who love this country so much, they leave those they love most to defend it.

The young people across America serving our communities – teaching children, cleaning up neighborhoods, caring for the least among us each and every day.

People like Hillary Clinton, who put those 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling, so that our daughters – and sons – can dream a little bigger and aim a little higher.

People like Joe Biden, who’s never forgotten where he came from, and never stopped fighting for folks who work long hours and face long odds and need someone on their side again.

All of us driven by a simple belief that the world as it is just won’t do – that we have an obligation to fight for the world as it should be.

That is the thread that connects our hearts. That is the thread that runs through my journey and Barack’s journey and so many other improbable journeys that have brought us here tonight, where the current of history meets this new tide of hope.

That is why I love this country.

Said with such practiced emotion. Such a professional performer.

10:49pm Eastern. A call for mental health care coverage gets more applause than either Hillary or Biden.

10:55pm Eastern. Michelle ends with “God bless America!”

Snicker.

10:56pm Eastern. Oh, dear. The Obama daughters are on stage talking with daddy via remote while he’s campaigning in Kansas City. Lots of “Hi, Daddy!” “Mommy looks cute!”

Oprah-i-zation of the DNC complete.

I wonder how many audience shots they’ll show vs. the Repub convention. I.e. how many enraptured faces and tear-drenched cheeks will we see when Obama talks about how tough that first issue of the Harvard Law Review was against when McCain talks about accepting beatings and solitary so the longer-serving POW could go home. (”Getting shot down doesn’t equal being President! Not like testifying before Congress of Genghis Khan-reminiscent tactics does!”)

I wonder how many precious, precious votes fall victim to this PR crap. Granted, both conventions are PR crap to a degree. The difference is that the Repubs just want a decent, not great, President, and the Dems want an anointed Messiah to deliver them from a non-European-styled America.

In all honesty, the best part for me was when she got very serious and earnest in describing why she “left a law firm to pursue a life of public service”.

Just at the moment she started to say why it was, the teleprompter must have gone funny (or she couldn’t believe what she was reading) and she wasn’t sure of the next word. “I did it to…. emmmmm…. emmmmmmmmmmmmm…. empower people……”

    Yeah. Sure you did, Mickey.

The UCMC where MO works apparently needed to make its emergency room more efficient/cost effective. She suggested that all those po’ folk who jam the ER should be sent back to clinics in their own neighborhoods. Hence the “dumping.” Or something like that. MO – successful CAREER woman? Try: successful activist married to a corrupt politician (rezko, ayers, kennedy, biden, etc.). CAREER woman who spurned the hard work of the law firm for the community outreach position that presumably paid a lot better and required a lot less effort?

the more I think about it, we rail on jerks like Obama and McVain for being illegal-alien-loving amnesty-pushing scumbags who don’t care about America, and want to change America so that we’d not recognize it, but when you really step back and consider, isn’t “America” really responsible for our two awful choices here? for these two dreadful humans who have the gall to demand to be elected to the ultimate position of power. neither of them are worthy of dogcatcher.

it crossed my mind to ask, what I am I defending here? I want to keep “America” as it is, but America right now is the sea of morons and anarchists who voted this communist BHO and mexican-boot-licker McVain into these positions, and it is America that allows the two bloated, ridiculous and endlessly greedy parties to prevent any competition and prevent any other political parties from taking part in a real way. “change” my ass – they go out of their way to prevent change and this govt I have been fighting to protect is allowing that subversion. America is also allowing and inviting the subversion of her laws by illegal invaders. it’s beyond sickening how insane our nation has become.

is that kind of national insanity (heading daily closer to national suicide) worth saving? I’m truly starting to wonder.

You speak a lot of truth. We are separated by the current two party system who are so parallel in their handling of our affairs there is barely a difference.

I have seen it posted here, by other’s, that we need to start changing at the local levels of government.

At this point, we do need to support the more conservative candidate…..the one least likely to appoint liberal justices to the SCOTUS. This is our final place to ensure we do not lose the rights for which our fore-fathers fought.

Too much is on the line……. a liberal SCOTUS, along with a liberal President and liberal Congress could impose the Fairness Doctrine, reduce our right to bear arms….
which would then be the beginning of the end…..

Although I am not thrilled with our Republican candidate, I will cast my vote for him. This is the best country in the world. I won’t sit this one out, in hopes something better will come along.

I wrote down 2 pages of what she said. I swear every time she mention the word community all I could think of was community organizer.

She never mentioned where they went to college, but oh yeah, they are just like us! I did not attend an Ivy League college, neither did my husband and neither will our twins! WE CANNOT AFFORD IT! Plus I have not homeschooled them all these years to have some hooty-patooty school re-educate their skulls full of mush just to come home as libtards!

She also said THE ONE “recognizes your word is your bond”. Really! Is that like saying you will take public financing for your campaign and then saying, “Nah, I changed my mind.” And I could not begin to list all the lies THE ONE has been spewing forth as “his word” that is so “his bond”! LOL!

Her brief mentioning of our beloved military seemed to be both pandering and forced. Very yucky moment.

Hope and Change were not defined and basically in total this whole appearance by Michelle seemed a waste in both redefining her as NOT the angry American, and giving us insight to THE ONE. Everything she said was so much to the opposite end of the truth, or what they have really done or said. I was so drunk from the spin!

As an American it was great to see an African-American family rise to this level of success. We have come a long way since 1865, and we should be proud we as a nation have learned from our mistakes and injustices. You certainly cannot say that about Russia or many other nations these days.

As a Mom, those kids are absolutely adorable and since our two are going off to college next fall, I miss them being those ages. I hope Michelle and Obama do not miss out too much on these priceless moments. However, I do hope we can give those back to them by defeating him come November.

The reason there are not alot of blacks in the GOP is that they are called “Uncle Toms” by demo blacks and others. This is another example where demos are not for any choice or diversity on the issues. If Blacks stray to the conservative line of thinking they are quickly branded “toms”.

    No, it’s just you.

I just wish I knew what blacks think they are getting from the Democrats other than lip service…

If you want to know why blacks — who are overwhelmingly socially conservative — don’t vote for Republicans, just read the comments on this blog for a few days. Doing so for me only validated some of the less savory aspects of conservative philosophy.

Hey, everybody, it’s the DNC version of the Cosby Show. When all else fails, let’s trot out the kiddies and convince all us dupes how much the Dems care about American families and the family unit.

Too bad there are millions of fragmented black families out there who don’t know what “nuclear family” means. It’s also quite sad that even with family displays like this, the Dems leave millions of dead babies in their wake.

Who really stands for American families and life and who doesn’t?

Man, that’s got me flummoxed. Can I hire you to make judgment calls for me? I need your help because Cindy McCain might be a reformed drug addict but she’s more than made up for it by caring for the less fortunate on a daily basis. Ever hear about the orphan Cindy McCain took from Mother Theresa or Cindy’s kids who are fighting in Iraq?

I have to admit, I need to hire you Scooter; you’ve made me see the light that Michelle Obama has so much more character and accomplished so much more for the less fortunate in this world.

I want you on my A-team Scooter.

I am married to such a person who has been called Uncle Tom by both white and black democrats. Please don’t even pretend to know how I, or even my parents, think and feel. I love how liberals can divine my thoughts and feelings but they cannot come up with any new ideas at all.

There is nothing particularly special about a craven politician who spouts the same old liberal, collectivist drivel. What has this man accomplished in his lifetime? As a community activist? As a lawyer? As a lawmaker both state and federal? These are questions even his most ardent followers cannot answer.

Please don’t even put Ms. Parks in the same category as Obummer. She stood up against bigotry and Obummer is riding her coattails. What exactly has Obummer ever stood up for exactly? What?

I love my country for real, while your take is an avatar or log in name. I’m genuinely concerned about the direction of the country and where it’s headed. There are no lessons learned for the younger generations. They have no clue as to their own history or their own potential. They’ve been taught by Dems that all you need to do is be a layabout and not do much with your life and you’ll be set. Is that the American Dream?

Is it the American Dream for millions of us hard-working, tax-paying American citizens to support the lazy and corrupt of this country? Is it the American Dream to want equal opportunity for all, not just the minority who needs to be counted? Is it the American Dream to be invaded by illegal aliens, have them subvert our laws, while our country just stands by and watches? What say you?

The American Dream is slipping away because people like you think that the Presidential Election should be some freaking American Idol redux. This election is about ideas, yet it’s been condensed into a personality/beauty pageant contest. The American Dream is slipping away because Americans think their vote is for sale, have no sense of what their citizenship actually represents, and have grown soft and lazy and think things are owed them like health care and education. We’re a republic not some two-bit socialist hell hole like Venezuela.

How many of you would have cheered for Jackie Robinson?

Jackie Robinson was a self-made man. You seem to lump all blacks into the same category of great accomplishment. His success was his own and not given to him. Obummer’s success was given to him by well-connected donors and activists who want a new pretty face to represent the same liberal drivel. You do Mr. Robinson a great diservice by putting him in the same category with the likes of self-hating, hypocritical haters like Obummer.
