DNC Night 3 open thread: The serfs await; Surprise: The ONE descends from the heavens!

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 27, 2008 08:26 PM

Scroll for updates…liveblogging the parting of the heavens for the surprise appearance of The One…

The roll call theater is over. Billy Boy prepares to strike the impossible balance between Clintonian self-aggrandizement and elder statesman-unifier. The PUMAs lick their wounds. And the stage managers continue prepping Barackopolis.

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

***

Bill Clinton read his lines with practiced enthusiasm. Obama, he proclaimed (while stifling a snort) is “ready to lead.”

Joe Biden has a loving family and an adoring, beautifully dignifed mother.

He is lucky.

He also has a lot of baggage.

He makes a lame attempt at a call and repsonse: “That’s not change. That’s more of the same.”

Clunker.

10:47pm Eastern. Interesting. We’ve gone 25-30 minutes without a word about Iraq.

Oh, here we go.

Huh? The threat in the Middle East is “fundamental fundamentalism?”

Still no specific mention of Iraq. He’s already moved on to Georgia and Pakistan.

“American cannot afford four more years of this failure.”

(Flashback: Biden – wrong on the surge.)

10:50pm Eastern. Comedy gold! Biden crediting Obama with being right about sending more troops to Afghanistan — a year after blasting Obama for copying him on Afghanistan and being AWOL on the issue.

Biden shouting…

“Again: McCain was wrong and Barack was right.”

(Translation: I was right!)

Biden mentions his SCRANTON ties for the 2,676th time.

It’s over. His lovely wife comes on stage.

She has a special surprise guest.

It’s THE ONE.

He has descended from the heavens!

He speaks!

“I think the convention has gone very well so far. What do you think? Michelle kicked it off pretty well. Hillary Clinton rocked the house last night. President Clinton reminded us what it’s like when you actually put people first.”

This is weird. He’s acting like an emcee. Not like, you know, the next president of the U.S.

Obama: “Change doesn’t start from the top up, er, the top down. It starts from the bottom up.”

He’s nervous. Where’s the teleprompter?

And ending with the obligatory afterthought: “God bless America.”

Kudos to Hillary Clinton. She gets an A+ from the time of her brilliant speech last night to this ACCLAMATION today. I have beat up on her for years. Hillary was my 4th favorite choice when the primaries started behind Biden, Edwards, and Obama. I was/am tired of political dynasties, and I’ve simply never trusted her. This week she has put party and country ahead of herself. This is the most important week of her legacy. You have the ball to run with Senator Obama. Let’s take the White House. Yes we can!!!

It’s laughable how the republicans are predicting a 15pt bounce after the convention. Nothing like setting unreasonable expectations to spin the story to your advantage. The closer this race remains the more young people and Hillary supporters will understand the importance of their vote. There is no “ONE” and no inevitability. Every vote counts. The Dems must and will have record turnout. Oh yeah as a heads up, people who only use cellphones aren’t showing up in the polls. This will be a close, hard fought battle for the White House like we’ve never seen.

    I agree DesertLover…

We own a business, and we doubled the number of employees during the Bush years. In fact, one of our guys who’s in the National Guard had to leave for Iraq for 9 months. And we kept him on payroll. Yes, he’s back and he’s working again. Thrilled to be working for us.

I thank you and America thanks you.

Desertlover-we too are doing better now financially than we ever have. We ARE better off than we were when Clinton was in the White House.

Good for you and glad your employee came home safely … my thanks to him and to you for keeping him on the payroll …

I don’t usually talk about those years but he got my dander up with that total BS about how great things were before Bush …

Blo’tarded windage. He is making me sick. The pit of my stomache hasn’t felt like this since Jan ‘97.

I guarantee this guy will turn on Obambi come Oct to make sure Hilderbeast doesn’t have to wait ’till ‘16 for another shot. She’ll stay above the fray to maintain “viability” when Bill plunges the knife in his back. (For all you literalists out there, in this instance knife is meant as metaphor for a political dirty trick ).

Odopeys entire campaign is enough to keep Saturday Night Live in material for years to come.
That to me seems reason enough to vote for him.

If you support funny late night sketch comedy, you support Barack Obama.

    huh?
oh ok you convinced me to vote for Odopey…. lol @ chap. 8) in a loving way of course.

There’s some amusement today about John McCain’s endorsement by the Puerto Rican performer Daddy Yankee, who has an assault charge and some some seriously racy lyrics.

There’s a bit more backstory, though. A Democratic Party source tells me a representative for Daddy Yankee approached Obama’s Latino outreach staffers earlier this year about possibly endorsing Obama.

But he didn’t pass the vetting, and Obama’s aides said they weren’t interested in his support. So, apparently, he moved over to McCain.

A spokeswoman for the performer didn’t return a call seeking comment on the claim.

UPDATE: Still no word from Daddy Yankee, but McCain spokesman Michael Golfarb emails: “That’s a ‘Ludacris’ suggestion, and given the number of shady characters and organizations that have endorsed Barack Obama, we find it hard to believe the Obama campaign has turned down any endorsements at all. After all, you can’t vet the vetters.

Another non-campaign source, however, tells me there are a few other prominent entertainers Obama’s turned down for somewhat similar reasons.

I have to say that I thought Bill’s speech could have been better. My husband kept telling me to change the channel because he could not stand listening to the BS that was being spewed.

    You’re welcome!

We also have several former military folks working for us as well!

I pay extra attention to those resumes that come in with past military experience for various reasons. But first and foremost, they’re one of the most disciplined, fun and loyal people to work with.

The economic prosperity of the ’90s was a bubble that economists predicted would bust, and it did. The first crack came in March 2000, while Bill was still in office. I remember it well.
