DNC Night 3 open thread: The serfs await; Surprise: The ONE descends from the heavens!

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 27, 2008 08:26 PM

Scroll for updates…liveblogging the parting of the heavens for the surprise appearance of The One…

The roll call theater is over. Billy Boy prepares to strike the impossible balance between Clintonian self-aggrandizement and elder statesman-unifier. The PUMAs lick their wounds. And the stage managers continue prepping Barackopolis.

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

***

Bill Clinton read his lines with practiced enthusiasm. Obama, he proclaimed (while stifling a snort) is “ready to lead.”

Joe Biden has a loving family and an adoring, beautifully dignifed mother.

He is lucky.

He also has a lot of baggage.

He makes a lame attempt at a call and repsonse: “That’s not change. That’s more of the same.”

Clunker.

10:47pm Eastern. Interesting. We’ve gone 25-30 minutes without a word about Iraq.

Oh, here we go.

Huh? The threat in the Middle East is “fundamental fundamentalism?”

Still no specific mention of Iraq. He’s already moved on to Georgia and Pakistan.

“American cannot afford four more years of this failure.”

(Flashback: Biden – wrong on the surge.)

10:50pm Eastern. Comedy gold! Biden crediting Obama with being right about sending more troops to Afghanistan — a year after blasting Obama for copying him on Afghanistan and being AWOL on the issue.

Biden shouting…

“Again: McCain was wrong and Barack was right.”

(Translation: I was right!)

Biden mentions his SCRANTON ties for the 2,676th time.

It’s over. His lovely wife comes on stage.

She has a special surprise guest.

It’s THE ONE.

He has descended from the heavens!

He speaks!

“I think the convention has gone very well so far. What do you think? Michelle kicked it off pretty well. Hillary Clinton rocked the house last night. President Clinton reminded us what it’s like when you actually put people first.”

This is weird. He’s acting like an emcee. Not like, you know, the next president of the U.S.

Obama: “Change doesn’t start from the top up, er, the top down. It starts from the bottom up.”

He’s nervous. Where’s the teleprompter?

And ending with the obligatory afterthought: “God bless America.”

One smart maverick move by Clinton was hitting on the economy. Even though he was stuck on National Security night. The most successful part of the Clinton legacy is the economy of the 1990s. Gore was too jaded and arrogant to run on it, but hopefully Clinton has dropped a reminder for this year’s platform.

Billy boy’s “economic” boom with the Internet bubble was a total farce.

It was a fake economy. Internet companies were being funded by drunken VC’s high on making a quick buck. Only a few were along for the ride.

A lot of people lost their butts in that market, but those who relied on profitable, solid companies did well. Those were far and few between.

If you look at the Dow charts during 2000, you’ll see it started tanking during HIS administration. Along with the old fart Greenspan sitting on his hands and refusing to lower the interest rates. That alone added major fuel to the fire. It was way too late by the time he started lowering the fed rate.

    Go look at those charts.

And then came 9/11. Yeah, that hit us hard, but just look at the recovery we made afterwards.

There’s some amusement today about John McCain’s endorsement by the Puerto Rican performer Daddy Yankee, who has an assault charge and some some seriously racy lyrics.

On the surface, I think that’s great. However, I’ve seen some of his young supporters and they cannot tell you anything Obama has done or wants to do. There are always exceptions to that, but the vast majority can only site “change” as a reason to vote. That’s very embarassing to me as an American. This morning, two girls were asked to identify some pictures of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Dick Cheney, etc. They actually said that Dick Cheney (couldn’t name him) shot the President!!!!!

Is Obama a Greek mythological god? We already know he is “the biggest fairytale”.

And no, young people are not going to vote, not even for a guy with his own Greek Temple.

    I can’t wait to see Biden’s speech. I need a good laugh.

But when that vote is cast it is either/or. It is not measured by how educated the voter is. So I again would say that McCain has real reason to fear the youth/new vote.

True, chap, but that doesn’t make me feel any better about people who are ignorant of the issues, especially young people. I just think it’s pathetic, that’s all. Maybe someday, they’ll grow up and educate themselves.

So, during the NBC news at 6:30, just after the “Michelle’s a nice lady – really” interview and before coverage of the roll call suspension (what timing for that to take place…) there was a hurricane Gustav update. As of now, it is on the southeastern side of Cuba and weakening. But the crack NBC weather team predicted that next Monday, Gustav will score a DIRECT hit on New Orleans, and depicted it on their forecast map as such. The storyline being pushed by the tanning booth eyes guy was how would the evil, terrible Republikillers answer for all of the Katrina part II destruction in NoLa, while trying to sell McCain at their convention. Who dares accuse them of bias?

navywife, being a transplanted Floridian myself, I took heart in seeing (today) that McCain is beating Obama by 7 points in the state.

The thought of McCain leading anything a year ago would have made me barf. Now I just hope he does not lose his momentum by selecting either a lame person or a VP that will make my head explode. Drudge says Friday is the day we find out who is VP.

I feel (hope) this race is McCain’s to win over the Obamas. I think there is more coming out about Barry’s past, in spite of the Greek temple backdrop and the deity theme. Flying monkeys would be more appropriate for tomorrow night.

You are not worthy of such a hallowed name.

I’m a rabid Sox fan. I picked the name from a charity that a friend of mine runs for MS research and it didn’t occur to me until about a week later about Mookie Wilson. Being a Sox fan, I was instantly horrified.

Unfortunately we have too many Americans who just don’t like America.

Yes always. Kudos to those who shout down.

ANYWAY, it cracks me up to see John Kerry with such a fire under his a$$ the past few years. He was on fire tonight. Remember when he took on Bush’s Ambassader to (some country), and turned it into a grilling of the guy’s support for SBVT. Where was the fire in 2004? Back then he acted all above-it-all, Joe-cool. I know he says he ran out of money to fight the smears, but still, the guy had minimal fight. Too little too late Mr. Kerry, but we’ll appreciate your spirit in the coming years.
