ABC reporter throttled in Denver…by police

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 28, 2008 01:08 PM

Something’s definitely wrong with this picture.

An ABC News reporter gets throttled by Denver police outside a hotel for taping Dem senators schmoozing with fatcats.

But nothing happens to these unhinged nutballs? (Related interview at PJM Political.)

I was amused by the comments on HotAir from the “career LEO”, because I too am a career LEO – 25 years in the NYC ghetto. His claim that the schmuck with the cigar was not using a choke hold is ridiculous. While not a “hold”, it definitely was a a choke. In NYC and increasingly more jurisdictions – even that technique has been banned outright. Watching that video left me ashamed of my former profession – to think those cops would endanger anyone by pushing them into traffic like that and removing them from a public sidewalk (sorry – there is no such thing as a private sidewalk) while doing nothing more than taking pictures should be dealt with in civil court. Those losers give LEO’s who do their jobs professionally a bad name and are a disgrace to the office they hold. Out of uniform, smoking in uniform, unlawful removal of a person from public property, violating the reporters first amendment rights … any of these would be cause for an NYPD officer to be set down hard and loose at least 30 days pay and refusal of the citys corporation counsel to represent the officer in civil court.

    Disgraceful. Nice going, Denver.

MistressJustice your cavalier attitiude to this is WHY something like your last question WILL happen, unless your kind are willing to stop, look at yourselves, and truly question your motives for a certain policy you currently favor.

I’m sure that most Romans around 55 B.C. really didn’t think that Pompey, Caesar and Crassus were going to destroy the Republic. “No one would be that brazen, would they?”

And I’m sure that most good Germans in 1933 didn’t really believe that this new-fangled “Nazi” party would one day eviscerate the Weimar Republic.

Most Venezuelans probably would’ve laughed if they were told that Hugo Chavez would use his election to subvert their democracy and set himself up as El Presidente for life of an effectively one-party state.

The point is that the saying “Who dares, wins” isn’t just a catchy slogan for Britain’s SAS. A relatively small group of people who are convinced of their own entitlement to power and have the brass to just go out and seize what they want can leave a whole lot more people scratching their heads and wondering how they managed in such a short time to destroy what everyone until then just assumed would always be the status quo.

That’s typically how representative governments are lost and replaced by totalitarians.

There’s a candidate for president in this country who wrote a book about his favorite subject — himself — that includes the word, “Audacity.” He’s the same guy who wants to use the Justice Department to silence his critics.

Surely he wouldn’t be so brazen … would he?

    Stay tuned….

Oh cute we’re playing a game. Tell me, what proof do you have that these seemingly thuggish cops are any anyway connected to the Obama campaign? Find me any evidence that this reporter was gripped up at the orders of campaign operatives to hide, or squelch anything. Find me any proof you have of the political ideology of these officers. This is Obama’s fault???
I honestly, sincerely feel sorry for you. The paranoid, unhinged fringe on the Left, and the paranoid, unhinged fringe on the Right like you, live in a world of fear and baseless allegations.
The rest of us in the middle just try to bring level-headed sanity to the discussion. At worse, this looks like a case of mild, police brutality by two cops. Until you have some proof to back of your assertions that Obama is responsible, you’re about as credible as “chicken little”.

I’m not keeping score. I’d rather just keep it real….real rational and sane.

There is; it’s just pretty buried. I saw the video of it on GMA this morning.

This frightens me. And I thought the corrupt cops in The Dark Knight were fictional. :/

That statement is a very dangerous oxymoron. There is no such thing as “mild, police brutality”…it either is or it isn’t brutality.

I do think that the cops involved need to be suspended while the Denver police have an investigation. Judging from what we see thus far, what they did was way over the line.

misstressjustice: If you can’t see the trend here then you are willfully blind. We have a major campign to silence or arrest obama critics without trying to refute what they say and the local police stoping reporters from taking pictures of DNC bigwigs. Call it paranoia if you wish but this is clearly a full court press to stifle dissent which your side keeps on claiming is patriotic. Even a quick glance at the history of dictatorships will show you that this is the first step. Obama can never be president if he starts using the police to crush dissent. We have 2 examples of this now. We will only see more. As for proof that this is obama ordered, well one example clearly is since they sent the letter to the doj demanding that the obama critic be arrested for expressing thier views. The other is not so clear, but any reasonable person would see that a reporter being pushed arround and arrested for taking photos of dnc leaders with moneymen is nothing less than a political party using police powers to supress dissent.

This reporter was filming lobbyists and DNC politicians together. He was not doing anything illegal, it being a public street and him being a reporter. He was attacked by police.

Given the fact Obama’s camp is circling the wagons about Ayers – and bullying stations that dare to talk about The One’s connections to the unrepentant, anti-American terrorist – it’s a legitimately and reasonable inference that anyone who might say or do anything to cast the Obama administration in a negative light will face consequence.

Those who act on behalf of the Obama campaign or are campaign staffers are working for Obama – the buck stops there.

What part of the First Amendment is unclear to you?

Absolutely. On one hand I fully condemn and, have fought police brutality as an attorney. On the other, these officers have a tough job in Denver this week, and deserve a right to present their case. Things aren’t always as they first appear in these cases. Either way a fully investigation is warranted.

Look, mistressjustice, when this action is viewed in light of the story being covered by the guy, and in concert with the thuggery being shown by Obama’s campaign in regard to the Ayers’ stuff coming out, there is a strong circumstantial inference that these cops were part of the effort to shut up dissent.

No. He demanded the DOJ investigate because Obama believes they were violating campaign laws on maximum contributions.

Agreed. Still no proof, though, that anyone connected with the Obama campaign had anything to do with sicing the police on the reporter. Just conjecture, right?
