Fake “lifelong Republican” alert
[F]ormer Joyce Foundation board member Barack Obama has secured yet another faux Second Amendment supporter in “lifelong Republican” Tony Dean, a long-time host of hunting and fishing television shows in South Dakota. Dean told the Dallas News he’s switching parties to head a Sportsmen for Obama group.
A “lifelong Republican” that is “switching parties to head a Sportsmen for Obama group”?
This is an interesting claim, given that Dean was mentioned by the Rapid City Journal in 2003 as a “possible Democratic candidate for Congress” who endorsed Democrat Senator Tim Johnson for reelection just a year earlier. Dean’s efforts to draw gun owners to Johnson weren’t enough, and Johnson’s Republican challenger, John Thune, became a U.S. Senator from South Dakota. According to public records, Dean donated money to another anti-gun South Dakota Democrat, Tom Daschle, also in 2003.
For Tony Dean to have “switch[ed] parties to head a Sportsmen for Obama group” he would have to have done so at least two years before Obama was even elected to Senate, and five years prior to he announced his presidential bid. Indeed, it appears the word “lifelong” is as difficult for Dean and the Obama campaign to define as the word “is” is to Bill Clinton.
Dean is quoted by the Dallas News as saying he’s “99 percent sure a President Obama isn’t going to infringe on gun rights.” But seeing as Mr. Dean, who at least one blogger has been dubbed ‘South Dakota’s Al Gore’ because of his fervent belief in human-cause global warming, describes himself as a “moderate on the gun issue” who “opposes the NRA on most gun issues,” his assurances about Obama aren’t likely to be much consolation to pro-gun voters.

Not surprised.
Strange, considering all of the “life long dems” doing the opposite.
Oh, wait.
Well. Well. So, that is what a “lifelong Republican” looks like in South Dakota?
I am so glad that the Supreme Court ruled on the 2nd Amendment being an individual right. It’ll help to stop some of the gun-ban schemes these clowns want to enact.
haha busted
i am shocked shocked that any democrat would tell a fib.
Usually the term “lifelong” Republican is a red flag.
The person identifying him/herself as such to the press is usually no such thing.
Anyway, to really be “lifelong” parents would have to register their children at birth on the voting rolls, a rite traditionally associated with Democrats : ).
Wait til the NRA starts promoting Barry’s anti-gun plan.
I guess celebrity is a disease that once it sets in completely corrupts the soul.
Link isn’t working. Recap?
is there anything wacko dem libs don’t lie about?
Today there was a “conservative” (I’ve been a conservative for 25 yeas!”) on Dennis Prager’s show who tried to argue that nothing drastic would really happen if the WH, House, and Senate went to tthe Dems. He said he was “more a Goldwater conservative than a Reagan conservative.”
I could tell by how new and crisp his suit was that he was a poser. He probably didn’t know how to tie his own tie, either.
PoserLoser. They don’t lie. They just moderate their positions.
very true, they grow become more nuanced
Exactly when did his life begin? Ooops, we can’t ask or answer those questions. They are above our pay grade.
Wasn’t there a woman, during the Kerry campaign, who claimed to be a “lifelong Republican”, too. A little investigation and she was caught in a lie.
I can’t connect to the site.
Anytime I see or hear the term “lifelong Republican” I go into immediate “Moby Alert” mode.
How many genuine Republicans have you ever heard refer to themselves that way?
But the donkeys keep trying. The thing about being stupid is that dumb ideas that make you say “Eureka!” to yourself don’t always have the same effect on others not as stupid.
is there anything wacko dem libs don’t lie about?
same here.
I think we overloaded it.
This is more of the propoganda from the left. Not unlike the self proclaimed “non-partisan non-profit corporations” that are anything BUT non-partisan (see AccountleAmerica and Factcheck.org). It amazaes me that the people on the left who complain about secrecy and spin from the right, seem perfectly comfortable perpetuating it from the left.
I added an excerpt up top.
Steve Sibson, a South Dakota blogger who runs Sibby Online, has been dogging old Tony for years now.
Here is some of the text of a post in the Mount Blogmore section of the Rapid City Journal:
Seems like old Tony is rather infamous as a political shape shifter in his home turf.
OH! I couldn’t see the link and incorrectly thought we were dissing the so-called Republican from the convention yesterday. Oops.
aj and Kaitian, took awhile but I finally got through…must be heavy traffic.
Typical of the libs: lie, lie, lie.
I’m sure that some REAL turncoats could be found if they looked hard enough. So why do they need to put these guys up?
Thanks M and RiR.
Michelle, is that really you responding????? One of our resident trolls accused you of having your husband blog for you. Why can’t you get a troll filter?
Prolly a “lifelong” gun owner too. Idiot
Do you think that happened to McCain during his 12th appearance on The Tonight Show or his 13th? Or was it on the set of Wedding Crashers? Or maybe during rehearsals for Saturday Night Live? Shrug. Ya just never know with these celebrities, do ya?
Ha! Liar Liar Toga’s on Fire.
Dean is another decoy for Obama’s anti-gun and anti-2nd amendment attitudes.
And I’m sure he got paid some bucks for this and can buy more guns. or weed.
The Toilet Ticket
No Odumpy/Bidet 08′
Guess I am one of the few “Life Long Republicans” you may ever meet. My presumption is that most true Republicans were at some point Democrats. Then they grew up.
Another lieing democrat…. imagine that!
If you’re sensitive to lieing democrats, don’t watch “the speech” at the Superbowl spectacular tonight.
Just heard on Fox that the little chipmunk gymnast, Shawn Johnson, is going to lead the Pledge Of Allegiance before The One descends into the stadium… Wonder if she’ll do back flips when he arrives?
Like our own lifetime republican “lgm”
As an avid hunter, I don’t know any “Sportmen,” that support Obama. So that would be my first clue to call B.S.
On another note, I’ll be watching the stadium spectical tonight… No not what your thinking… but rather, the start of college football!!
Probably a member of this gun control shill organization as well as being a “life-long Republican:”
http://www.huntersandshooters.com/index.php
A quick perusal of the board of directors looks like a listing of FOBs and gun banners.
I’m sick of the
duplicitylies of the left. I was registered as a Democrat at one time, but the party left me.ECS
Slow news day? He’s a 68 year old man. Let’s say he’s an even bigger “liar” and switched parties when Bush took office in 2000. If he registered at the age of 18, that would mean he was a Republican for 42 years. Would it only count if he switched parties outside the venue? Seriously…
Shocka!
Reminds me of all those republican questionair plants in the debates. Not to mention that they were planting their own questions to themselves in press conferences/townhall/debates.
Your right. Tony Dean switched political parties because of his love for Obama…but LGM would switch sexual orientation for him.
Classy radio. Refer to a 16 year old kid who just did her country proud in the Olypmics as a “chipmunk”. Nice.
I knew he was a fraud just from the fact that there’s no way any self-respecting gun owner would be pro-Obama!
Yeh, because he’s just had it with all that stuff that’s made him a Republican, and has decided to now vote for the MOST LIBERAL ON EVERY ISSUE candidate. Right.
Every time I read or hear the words “I’m a lifelong Republican but this election I’m…” from some supposedly renowned personality, I always tune out. People who say and do such things were never real Republicans, i.e., Republican registrants who actually cast ballots for a Republican candidates; people like this just register Republican so they can feel the self-righteousness of thinking themselves “enlightened” as they consistently vote for the Democrat in every election, every time.
Oops! MM, thank you for exposing these frauds and not letting the MSM give the impression that Republicans are quitters -
A “lifelong Republican” that is “switching parties to head a Sportsmen for Obama group”?
Thank God he switched parties!
Sorry, but I have long ago thrown away anyone who starts with, “I have been a Repubican all my life, but…” Their statements on blogs and comment sections are always Left or Liberal and when you call them on it, they throw out that they are supposedly Conservative or Republican. I think they actually believe that true Conservatives and Republicans are actually fooled by this, but in all actuality it is only the Liberals and the MSM that falls for their crock o` poop.
No true Conservative or Republican would EVER vote for The Golden Calf in this lifetime or any other. The ruse never works, and there just will not be any number of Righties that would see one of these buffoons and think, ‘Well shucks golly…if he can vote for him, so can I.”
It is one of their most pathetic ploys out there.
“This is not what Americans believe”
You obviously know this guy or you’re just making up more lies about his backround to try to make excuses for the lies he told???? Maybe there is a “lifelong” republican out there who is voting for the One. Bring him/her out and stop making stuff up.
Tony Dean, switch-hitter…obviously a happy Democrat.
I don’t know if there are many Hannity listeners here, but if there are I have a question. Has anyone else noted that in the last month there have been a ton of Obama supporters who call him? They are all reading off of the same script. They start the conversation, “I have been a long time listener of yours….”
Right… A liberal trying to lecture me on “class”. Now I’ve heard it all!
Save your “holier than thou” b.s. for tonight when you’re watching your messiah.
Don’t relax just yet, GP. If BHO is elected, he will be appointing one, maybe two, Supremes to the Court. They will be anti 2nd Amendment. With Dems in control of the House and Senate, we’re screwed.
Tony who?
I confess; I was donkey before I got attacked by a knife wielding lunatic.
After defending myself, getting a lecture about letting the thug have what they want convinced me to change poltical affilations, and yes the single parent lectured me about not hitting her daughter because she was a drug addict and a girl.
And people wonder why I changed to the party of Regan.
GSP
The NRA has Obama’s and fake hunting supporters’ numbers, and is actively educating its membership and the public. Obama has flat out lied about his votes to ban guns. Fortunately, there are records to catch him at his lies. He’s in the same gun grabbing tent with Hillary, Bloomberg, Schumer, Teddy Kennedy. Feinstein and the rest of the usual suspects. You know…the ones who have taxpayer provided protection and don’t have to wait for overworked local law enforcement to get to their homes. The “do as I say, not as I do” crowd.
Today, a life-long Republican in rural Pennsylvania announced he is switching parties and will be forming a Bitter Gun and Bible Clingers for Obama group. The announcement was made from the portico in front of his Neo-Faux-Classical barn, which looks out on a field filled with 200,000 Holsteins…
I can relate. Know the definition of a conservative? It’s a liberal… who’s been mugged.
I personally think Tamias striatus are cute little critters! Oops, I said “critters.”
navywife…it does not require me to know the man to know his age.
You’re childish comment speaks for itself as it relates to your lack of class. BTW, I’m far from a liberal, but you’re prone to making assumptions. Are you sure you’re not the liberal around here?
And all I did was put forward the idea that if a 68 year old man starts voting Democrat in 2000 or 2002 and had been a Republican before that, it’s fair to say that 42 years of being a Republican vs. 8 years of being a Democrat is a fairly substantial difference.
You know that’s not what I meant. It has nothing to do with his age. You’re making excuses to fit the story being told.
The problem is that they’re calling a guy a lifelong Republican and pretending like Obama’s candidacy somehow converted him.
I just moved to SD from MN. I’ve been watching Tony Dean’s TV shows for years -most often flipping past them channel surfing-and I usually like hunting and fishing shows. I’ve seen his articles in local outdoor publications. Tony Dean isn’t and never has been a Republican. He swallowed the Al Gore nonsense hook, line, and sinker.
He’s way down the list in popularity among the hunting and fishing personalities-celebrities-columnists-hosts. His endorsement have about as much impact as an ant on an 18 wheeeler load.
I wonder if this guy is such an outdoorsman if he will be asking Ted Nugget to go on a hunting trip. We can only hope that Ted has a Dick Chaney accident if they do….LOL I hope Ted whacks him and stacks him…LOL
How much attention will the MSM give this?
Maybe this is the same guy that John Kerry wanted to know, “Is this where you buy your hunting license”?
GaMidnightRider, we can hope for such a hunting expedition (with Nugent). Probably might take the fellow out snipe hunting.
The criterion is simple, it’s whether or not he switched for Obama.
Next…
I am a life-long outdoorsman and hunt whenever I get the chance. I do not know Tony Dean. I do know this, he does not represent most of us who do enjoy hunting and the shooting sports. We are too aware of the dangers of anyone who would dilute the 2nd amendment like Barack Obama. I would guess that Mr. Dean must be independantly wealthy to risk his sponsors’ wrath in order to endorse an anti-gun candidate.
Actually Johnson won in 2002, thanks not only to fake sportsmen but some suspicious activity related to Indian reservations, defeating Thune by a few hundred votes. Two years later, Thune unseated Tom Daschle.
This guy’s a “lifelong” Republican the same way that Obama has “always” said a particular thing.
Kinda Orwellian: “We’ve always been at war with Eastasia, I mean Eurasia.”
Gun owners know about Obama. We will not believe his minions and their lies.
Sounds like Washington Governor Christine Gregoire.
They’ve corrected this at the Buckeye site. Thune lost to Johnson then later won a race against Daschle.
