He cometh; the money tree shaketh

The serfs are restive. Bruce Springsteen blaring on the speakers will mollify them only so much. On with it! The prepared text that The One will read from his teleprompters is here.
9:49pm Eastern. They are seriously playing “Power to the People.”
10:06pm Eastern. The bio video is playing now. I’m watching on TV along with many blogger friends downtown here in Denver. Obama is shown bragging: “I am my sister’s keeper.” But not, blogger Jim Hoft cracks, his brothers’ keeper.
If you’re playing drinking games, take a drink every time the cameras cut away to crowd members crying.
First snort: Obama talking about accepting the nomination with “great humility.”
Second snort: Obama rescues his grandmother from under the bus.
Third snort: He’s talking about treating others with “dignity and respect.” Tell it to Stanley Kurtz.
Fourth snort: The promise of America: Safer toys!
Fifth snort: He said it again: He is his brother’s and sister’s keeper.
Yawn: Big Nanny promises, same old Democrat laundry list. Equal pay for equal work.
Sixth snort: Obama says he’s ready to debate McCain, after backing out of debates he apparently wasn’t ready to have yet.
Seventh snort: The One promises to do it all…
I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. I will rebuild our military to meet future conflicts. But I will also renew the tough, direct diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and curb Russian aggression. I will build new partnerships to defeat the threats of the 21st century: terrorism and nuclear proliferation; poverty and genocide; climate change and disease. And I will restore our moral standing, so that America is once again that last, best hope for all who are called to the cause of freedom, who long for lives of peace, and who yearn for a better future.
Not just a snort. A profanity-inducer: “…what I will not do is suggest that the Senator takes his positions for political purposes. Because one of the things that we have to change in our politics is the idea that people cannot disagree without challenging each other’s character and patriotism.”
Says the man leading the smear campaign against GOP donors and investigative journalist Stanley Kurtz for disagreeing with Obama on his radical ties.
Eighth snort/guffaw/choke: “But I stand before you tonight because all across America something is stirring. What the nay-sayers don’t understand is that this election has never been about me. It’s been about you.”
I’m looking at Obama’s flag lapel pin. Wonder how many stars are on it?
Fireworks. And a diversity prayer.

Meantime, my email box is filling up with Obama campaign donation solicitations.
Talk about milking it:
michelle —
When Barack takes the stage tonight, he’ll look out at delegates from every corner of the country and tens of thousands of ordinary people who are here to be part of this historic moment.
But in the very first row he’ll see a group of people who are there because they took ownership of the political process. Some gave just five dollars.
They’re folks just like you, and they represent more than two million Americans who own a piece of this campaign. Our success would not have been possible without so many people answering the call by giving whatever they can afford.
On this final day before Barack formally accepts the Democratic nomination, please celebrate the moment and lay the foundation for our victory in November by making a donation of $25 or more now:
https://donate.barackobama.com/frontrow
Barack is ready. The crowd filling this stadium at this very moment is ready. And America is ready for the change we need.
It’s within your grasp to make that happen.
Thank you,
David

And another from MoveOn:
Hi,
I’m writing you from my phone at Denver’s Mile High Stadium. This place is buzzing! Obama will take the stage in a few hours. But here’s what’s just as exciting: All across the country, people are kicking in to fund our new program to register the Obama generation—I just heard we’ve raised $253,461 already today!
Check out the video I sent this morning about our huge new campaign:
https://pol.moveon.org/donate/voterregvideo.html?id=13632-4503129-RRtaCVx&t=1
You can feel it in the air here—so much energy for Obama! If we harness it, we can turn this whole country around.
Our goal is to register half a million young voters in swing states. We’re working with a terrific new group called Progressive Future. But we still need to fund this campaign. Please help!
Thank you!
From Denver,
–Eli
P.S. I mentioned Progressive Future, a great new group that promotes progressive values through grassroots action. They’re our partners in this—we couldn’t do it alone. Read about them here: http://www.progressivefuture.org

Impressive. I didn’t know hurricanes made it up to Minnesota in September.
I could not get past the lead-in before his “speach” (is reading from a teleprompter really a speach?):
Something about promises for the future of our children…the children that dumbasscrats choose to deliver to full term? All tripe right from the very first sentence uttered.
I say unto you , the chosen one is not in the temple to drive out the money changers.
Please tell me people aren’t buying this crap. So far its all been like a bad rock concert. All show. No content.
I like Romney….but the excitement that Palin would bring to the ticket would be great. I know nothing about her but I wonder how well she would do in a debate with the a-hole Biden?
Still, with her on the ticket I might vote for McCain without getting drunk first.
Yes, he was ready tobow down before the tryant right there and then.
Me too. I even hit the volunteer button on ako.
Dug out the old Misery Index calculator and installed new batteries just in case. I hear peanut futures are doing well. At least we don’t have an embassy in Iran at the moment.

Just another bitter American clinging to my God and guns (gas guzzling, global warming pick-up truck too!)
I listened to almost none of the speech. It is nothing but scum pols lying to the people. There was one line that caught my attention and frankly frightened me. Obummer said, “the American promise”. Promise? So we have gone from “right to pursue happiness and liberty” to “promise” That is nothing more than communist/socialist dogma. That affirms that people are guaranteed happiness by the gov’t, not the right to pursue. That is truly scray stuff which will lead to even more gov’t interference in our lives. Oh, and an empty wallet of those who made good decisions and work hard, in order to give to thoswe who make poor decsions and lay around on their fat behinds pushing out kids and waiting fo rhtier “entitlement” checks. I fear the final day of America are quickly approaching. It is just a matter of walking off the cliff wiht mcamensty or driving a race car wiht obummer.
Yeah, I agree. Once he got to “accepting the nomination with “great humility” that was all I needed to hear. Besides, there was NCAA football to watch : )
Oh, h*ll yea. I am much more interested in CFB this year since the 2 major party candidates SUCK!!!! I have been waiting impatiently for kick off. I take it you are an Iowa fan. Me, I pull fo rTexas and Texas A&M. Graduated fomr both. At least it is a diversion for me fomr the imaginings of hte world my children will inherit when either of these 2 are done with the country.
My point exactly
After listening to the “big speech” last night, I have to say that Obama has gone through an amazing transformation – from the fresh, new omnipotent change agent Obamessiah to JALD. (Just Another Liberal Democrat)
a light will come down…you will experience an epiphany…and when you snap out of it…your wallet and gas tank will be empty… and so will your soul…chains you can believe in
