He cometh; the money tree shaketh

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 28, 2008 09:54 PM

The serfs are restive. Bruce Springsteen blaring on the speakers will mollify them only so much. On with it! The prepared text that The One will read from his teleprompters is here.

9:49pm Eastern. They are seriously playing “Power to the People.”

10:06pm Eastern. The bio video is playing now. I’m watching on TV along with many blogger friends downtown here in Denver. Obama is shown bragging: “I am my sister’s keeper.” But not, blogger Jim Hoft cracks, his brothers’ keeper.

If you’re playing drinking games, take a drink every time the cameras cut away to crowd members crying.

First snort: Obama talking about accepting the nomination with “great humility.”

Second snort: Obama rescues his grandmother from under the bus.

Third snort: He’s talking about treating others with “dignity and respect.” Tell it to Stanley Kurtz.

Fourth snort: The promise of America: Safer toys!

Fifth snort: He said it again: He is his brother’s and sister’s keeper.

Yawn: Big Nanny promises, same old Democrat laundry list. Equal pay for equal work.

Sixth snort: Obama says he’s ready to debate McCain, after backing out of debates he apparently wasn’t ready to have yet.

Seventh snort: The One promises to do it all…

I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. I will rebuild our military to meet future conflicts. But I will also renew the tough, direct diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and curb Russian aggression. I will build new partnerships to defeat the threats of the 21st century: terrorism and nuclear proliferation; poverty and genocide; climate change and disease. And I will restore our moral standing, so that America is once again that last, best hope for all who are called to the cause of freedom, who long for lives of peace, and who yearn for a better future.

Not just a snort. A profanity-inducer: “…what I will not do is suggest that the Senator takes his positions for political purposes. Because one of the things that we have to change in our politics is the idea that people cannot disagree without challenging each other’s character and patriotism.”

Says the man leading the smear campaign against GOP donors and investigative journalist Stanley Kurtz for disagreeing with Obama on his radical ties.

Eighth snort/guffaw/choke: “But I stand before you tonight because all across America something is stirring. What the nay-sayers don’t understand is that this election has never been about me. It’s been about you.”

I’m looking at Obama’s flag lapel pin. Wonder how many stars are on it?

1a57.jpg

Fireworks. And a diversity prayer.

Meantime, my email box is filling up with Obama campaign donation solicitations.

Talk about milking it:

michelle —

When Barack takes the stage tonight, he’ll look out at delegates from every corner of the country and tens of thousands of ordinary people who are here to be part of this historic moment.

But in the very first row he’ll see a group of people who are there because they took ownership of the political process. Some gave just five dollars.

They’re folks just like you, and they represent more than two million Americans who own a piece of this campaign. Our success would not have been possible without so many people answering the call by giving whatever they can afford.

On this final day before Barack formally accepts the Democratic nomination, please celebrate the moment and lay the foundation for our victory in November by making a donation of $25 or more now:

https://donate.barackobama.com/frontrow

Barack is ready. The crowd filling this stadium at this very moment is ready. And America is ready for the change we need.

It’s within your grasp to make that happen.

Thank you,

David

David Plouffe
Campaign Manager
Obama for America

P.S. — Be sure to tune in to watch Barack accept the Democratic nomination tonight.

And another from MoveOn:

Hi,
I’m writing you from my phone at Denver’s Mile High Stadium. This place is buzzing! Obama will take the stage in a few hours.

But here’s what’s just as exciting: All across the country, people are kicking in to fund our new program to register the Obama generation—I just heard we’ve raised $253,461 already today!

Check out the video I sent this morning about our huge new campaign:

https://pol.moveon.org/donate/voterregvideo.html?id=13632-4503129-RRtaCVx&t=1

You can feel it in the air here—so much energy for Obama! If we harness it, we can turn this whole country around.

Our goal is to register half a million young voters in swing states. We’re working with a terrific new group called Progressive Future. But we still need to fund this campaign. Please help!

Thank you!

From Denver,

–Eli

P.S. I mentioned Progressive Future, a great new group that promotes progressive values through grassroots action. They’re our partners in this—we couldn’t do it alone. Read about them here: http://www.progressivefuture.org

Two weeks ago, Pelosi told a crowd that Obama was “a leader that God has blessed us with at this time.” Obama assured her that all was well, saying, “I will win. Don’t worry….” Even Obama’s long-lost Kenyian brother told CNN it’s in the bag:

George Obama…draws inspiration from his famous half-brother. He acknowledges that he is biased but said he knows that his half-brother will be the next president. “Because he wants to be [president],” he said. “I think in life, what you want is what you are supposed to get.”

So there it is. No one needs to waste their money on Obama, since God sent Obama to win, and because that is what Obama wants.

Has anybody else noticed that the places he mentions as examples of where politics has been broken are all places where Dems were in power when the shtuff hit the fan?
New Orleans, where “people were left to drown”: Dem governor, Dem mayor. Michigan, where the auto plants closed and shipped jobs to China: Dems.

It’s like my TV set is plugged into a station from Bizarro-World…

And when does he follow up “Eight is Enough” with “Movin’ on up?” (Aside: the fact that the crowd will chant anything he says is scary!)

Umm…we’ve been doing natural gas for the past year, and prices are down 42% over last year.

So now Obama is for nuclear energy? Now I see how he will end our oil addiction, by more fuel efficient cars.

And presumably, inflating our tires.

I am not liking this either. And I’m the guy who should be eating this stuff up.

Of course, it’s naive of me to want hard policy in an acceptance speech.

That could save you a lot of money and conserve energy, so, yeah.

    Obama and morals? Oxymoron?

I don’t think that’s a fair attack. His morals are pretty unassailable. He’s not a Clinton.

Gas prices may be down over the past year, but they had a HUGE run-up over the several years preceding this one. We got to levels where doing things like shale gas recovery, and arctic recovery became economical.

US and Canadian gas production is about tapped out, and it’s very hard to store natural gas. To up NG production, you have to import Liquefied Natural Gas. Something we can’t permit here.

I mean, I agree with most of this stuff, but I’m an active Democrat so I’m very familiar with the stuff he’s talking about.

I don’t think active politial types are his intended audience though.

I guess the whole Obama craziness went over my head.

If you need ammunition against me, just remember I supported HRC and I love John Kerry.

    Bill Clinton created jobs? How?

How do you put away any money “to see your kids get a college diploma” when he plans to take it from you in more and more taxes?

Does he know that the “difficulties in starting a new business” come from government taxes and bureaucracy?

    Does he get it?

The haughty head held high with the nose in the air pose reminds me of the elite Obama posters on Michelle’s site.

Ha! He said we must be “our brother’s keeper!!” What about that half brother in Africa?

He will “cut taxes for 95% of working families?”

He is going to end our dependence on Middle East oil! He is the messiah!!

Boy! A chicken in every pot!!

Yeah, a world class education from our public schools! The same ones Obama doesn’t send his kids to.

Higher salaries for teachers? Read about how he kowtows to the Illinois teacher’s unions. Shorter and shorter days for more and more money.

Oh sure. We will get the same healthcare as Ted Kennedy!!

What color is the sky in the world this empty suit lives in?

There we go: protect social security so the government can continue to rape the money coming in.

    Personal responsibility? Democrats?!?!?!

Now the message Bill Cosby was vilified for.
