He cometh; the money tree shaketh

The serfs are restive. Bruce Springsteen blaring on the speakers will mollify them only so much. On with it! The prepared text that The One will read from his teleprompters is here.
9:49pm Eastern. They are seriously playing “Power to the People.”
10:06pm Eastern. The bio video is playing now. I’m watching on TV along with many blogger friends downtown here in Denver. Obama is shown bragging: “I am my sister’s keeper.” But not, blogger Jim Hoft cracks, his brothers’ keeper.
If you’re playing drinking games, take a drink every time the cameras cut away to crowd members crying.
First snort: Obama talking about accepting the nomination with “great humility.”
Second snort: Obama rescues his grandmother from under the bus.
Third snort: He’s talking about treating others with “dignity and respect.” Tell it to Stanley Kurtz.
Fourth snort: The promise of America: Safer toys!
Fifth snort: He said it again: He is his brother’s and sister’s keeper.
Yawn: Big Nanny promises, same old Democrat laundry list. Equal pay for equal work.
Sixth snort: Obama says he’s ready to debate McCain, after backing out of debates he apparently wasn’t ready to have yet.
Seventh snort: The One promises to do it all…
I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. I will rebuild our military to meet future conflicts. But I will also renew the tough, direct diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and curb Russian aggression. I will build new partnerships to defeat the threats of the 21st century: terrorism and nuclear proliferation; poverty and genocide; climate change and disease. And I will restore our moral standing, so that America is once again that last, best hope for all who are called to the cause of freedom, who long for lives of peace, and who yearn for a better future.
Not just a snort. A profanity-inducer: “…what I will not do is suggest that the Senator takes his positions for political purposes. Because one of the things that we have to change in our politics is the idea that people cannot disagree without challenging each other’s character and patriotism.”
Says the man leading the smear campaign against GOP donors and investigative journalist Stanley Kurtz for disagreeing with Obama on his radical ties.
Eighth snort/guffaw/choke: “But I stand before you tonight because all across America something is stirring. What the nay-sayers don’t understand is that this election has never been about me. It’s been about you.”
I’m looking at Obama’s flag lapel pin. Wonder how many stars are on it?
Fireworks. And a diversity prayer.

Meantime, my email box is filling up with Obama campaign donation solicitations.
Talk about milking it:
michelle —
When Barack takes the stage tonight, he’ll look out at delegates from every corner of the country and tens of thousands of ordinary people who are here to be part of this historic moment.
But in the very first row he’ll see a group of people who are there because they took ownership of the political process. Some gave just five dollars.
They’re folks just like you, and they represent more than two million Americans who own a piece of this campaign. Our success would not have been possible without so many people answering the call by giving whatever they can afford.
On this final day before Barack formally accepts the Democratic nomination, please celebrate the moment and lay the foundation for our victory in November by making a donation of $25 or more now:
https://donate.barackobama.com/frontrow
Barack is ready. The crowd filling this stadium at this very moment is ready. And America is ready for the change we need.
It’s within your grasp to make that happen.
Thank you,
David

Obama for AmericaP.S. — Be sure to tune in to watch Barack accept the Democratic nomination tonight.
And another from MoveOn:
Hi,
I’m writing you from my phone at Denver’s Mile High Stadium. This place is buzzing! Obama will take the stage in a few hours. But here’s what’s just as exciting: All across the country, people are kicking in to fund our new program to register the Obama generation—I just heard we’ve raised $253,461 already today!
Check out the video I sent this morning about our huge new campaign:
https://pol.moveon.org/donate/voterregvideo.html?id=13632-4503129-RRtaCVx&t=1
You can feel it in the air here—so much energy for Obama! If we harness it, we can turn this whole country around.
Our goal is to register half a million young voters in swing states. We’re working with a terrific new group called Progressive Future. But we still need to fund this campaign. Please help!
Thank you!
From Denver,
–Eli
P.S. I mentioned Progressive Future, a great new group that promotes progressive values through grassroots action. They’re our partners in this—we couldn’t do it alone. Read about them here: http://www.progressivefuture.org

I despise him as well. It takes every thing I have to watch him. This speech is an affront to anyone with a couple of working brain cells. He is repulsive to the core.
I’m listening to this guy and all I can think is, “How much is this going to cost me?”
BHO: Iraq was not a real threat. This guy is a F***ing idiot.
Wasn’t looking for ammo, just surprised you haven’t jumped on the Obama bandwagon like all the other fanatics.
Every single penny you have ever had.
If you make more than $150,000 anually…a lot. If you make less, it’s all free! Woo!
Ready to have the debate??? He wasn’t ready sitting with Rick Warren…I think this guy is bold to go after McCain on anything military..Ugh..I wish my husband would let me watch my Seinfeld DVD.
Ummm…he’s the party of Jimmy Carter.
This will be 4 more years of Carter.
The Dems look NOTHING like they did during Kennedy!
This guy is toast. This speech is beyond bland and vague. His only hope is that McCain picks a real clunker for VP.
“You don’t protect Israel and fend off Iran by talking tough in Washington.”
Of course not. You do that by having tea and a casual chat in Tehran. Right, Mr. Obama?
I worked on the Hill so I know changing the environment there is impossible.
I still will vote for him and agree with him on most things, but I am not that naive.
Mr. Abortion & Infanticide is going to restore our moral standing.
Uh huh.
Only the beginning, just wait till he can sign budgets.
The GOP knows this isn’t their year and are saving their rising stars (Jindal, Jindal, Jindal) for 2012 or 2016.
empty head
But if we question Obama, we are racist?!?!?!?!?!?
It is vague if you mean, I will take every penny is some slick words.
No, it is now McCain’s race to lose. The Dems will stomp Republicans in the House and Senate, but not the Whitehouse.
Not exactly. The “Name it and claim it” theology is heresy, a chocolate-covered mud pie, if you will. It briefs well, but it’s full of what Obama’s stepping in. Instead of a Joel Osteen, we need a Paul Washer or Voddie Baucham. As Jesus said in Matthew, “you will know them by their fruits.” I see Obama’s fruits, and I see where he stands.
Rusty;
I thought it was me. Isn’t this empty and same ole crap he’s been jiving us with
Only too real a threat.
McCain/the GOP has him defending his patriotism.
Gay people now can visit loved ones in a hospital? That is to me.
I’d be careful about using the word “jiving” with a black candidate.
And now he’s talking compromise for gay marriage. BOOOOOO!
Whoops!
AlohaGuy said:
Nod. I’m afraid to find out. McCain is so close…
This speak sucks!
He just laid down his policy, higher taxes and loss of values!
Pawlenty about does that…
If McCain does his homework, he should have no problem beating this guy in a debate. Actually, scratch that: if a conservative were in the debate, he’d have no problem beating Obama. Good luck, McCain.
Jindal needs to make the rounds making speeches like Reagan did to build grassroots support.
I’m not sure the Dems will stomp the Republicans in the House and Senate … Congress is in 1 digit approval rating right now. Now that’s pitiful!!
he just made a comment about not having a record to run on… no one applauded
Typical – promise EVERYTHING to get your vote and then sell you out afterwards.
It’s all about Obama, he is so full of it!
He Jives! He doesn’t talk, no substance to anything and where I’m from that’s JA JA JA Jive Talking….. Hey
He plays on people’s emotions. He plays on people’s feelings of victimization..he is the last thing this country needs.
Rocky ,,, what did he say??? I had to stop watching, i’m getting sick to my stomach.
“It is not about me…” then he goes into this series of sentences starting with “I”.
NO kidding. A no-name from MN. That would be the biggest mistake.
Did he chip his tooth? Why the whistling?
Flashes of GOB on Arrested Development.
Who does this guy think he is to invoke the courage of a Soldier who reenlists after losing a limb? He doesn’t know us, doesn’t want to know us, and looks down on us by thinking he knows more about our profession than we do. Yeah, he’s getting a good letter from me on this.
I could agree with you more.
He said something to the effect that if you don’t have a record to step on, you make the campaign about small insults… or something to that effect. He essentially said McCain didn’t have a record to run on. Which is hilarious coming from a man who has done nothing.
A record to RUN on… sorry, sleepy and wine-laden to dull the pain… :-S
He’s ready for a debate with McCain, but not an unscripted one in a townhall setting…
He just lied about asking for more troops to fight the Iraq war.
Now he wants us to invade Pakistan again to get OBL. This worries me more than anything else. He really wants to bomb Pakistan.
He totally missed the reason for the troop withdrawal proposed by Bush and the Iraqis. Totally skipped the surge. What a surprise!
Restore the legacy of the cold war?
He is going to rebuild the military!
He will fix climate change, genocide, terrorism, my kitchen sink!!
Oh wait, he will “pursue these policies.”
I wonder if he knows the preponderance of soldiers are not Democrats?
Does he know that our fine liberal institutions ban ROTC and other military avenues for the protected, politically correct liberal students?
“Reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies.” Isn’t that abortion?
He did not come out in support of gay marriage, just visiting a partner in the hospital.
“If you don’t have a record to run on, you scare the folks?” Did he really say that? Does he think he has a record? Or achievements? Or anything?
“It’s not about me.” I am just the messiah.
He never changed anything in Illinois or Washington, but now he will do that.
What is that smell coming from the television set?
Are we supposed to believe those cutaways to people in the audience are genuine when you can see the shadow of the camera on them?
Why does he keep talking about fixing education and broken cities when Democrats are responsible for their degredation?
Thank God it’s over. BORING.
Yikes.
I’m not watching, is it over yet?
Pssssssst… that is the air coming out of his campaign.
Yeah, that was hurting my ears. i thought I was the only one who could hear it.
GOD, here come’s F… sorry… BRIT HUME to fawn over this idiot.
What???? That’s stupid. He needs to stop talking, cause he’s going to say something dumb.
Heeee heeeee i made a funny
I am happy Rusty chose to spend this historic time with us on a conservative blog. Ain’t that special.
Oh boy, now he is quoting the Bible.
Satan was known to quote the Bible, too.
At least it is finally over. Wow that was an empty speech. Nothing new. Didn’t even measure up to Obama’s usual “soaring rhetoric”. Not a great speech for Obama.
Wow, Barry, I didn’t realize we were living in hell.
My GAWD they all match
Why do I feel like I’m watching the movie “Idiocracy”?
Well, that was underwhelming, to say the least.
Why does Couric have to tell us what he just said? Did she think we weren’t listening, or does she know Democrats need lots of repetition to get the message?
I wonder if they will set anyone on fire with those fireworks?
It was well delivered except for all the omissions and misrepresentations and promises that he has no intention of filling.
I like how he said something JSM in the Senate for 30 yrs and doing nothing about oil. Okay, what about Biden 36 yrs doing nothing.
I’m figuring Obama out now: he knows he’s hollow. He knows he lacks the accolades. So what does he do? He invokes the accolades of every other American. Dr. King, the military, the factory worker, the… you name them.
Here’s the problem with that though: If I’m applying for leadership position, I don’t apply by listing the accomplishments of others or those I plan to lead. I’m not considering all of those other folks for President. I thought I was supposed to consider this guy? I’m waiting for something better.
HUME!!!!!! You redeemed yourself! “Barack Hussein’s… err… Obama’s”
hahah!
Anyone watching Fox? Did you catch that woman wiping her tears?
Please! Get over it!
It’s funny he had to go back 50 years to find a Democrat that was tough on foreign policy. It is unfortunate that today’s Democratic party is only a shadow of what it used to be.
Wow! Jonestown, er, I mean Denver was rocking tonight!
Seriously, I think I just threw up in my mouth.
Flats and all.
Ugh.
That display is clearly pathic. How much did all of that cost? Not to worry…we’ll get it.
He gave a good speech, but just more of the same!
Huh? I thought he was supposed to turn water into kool-aid tonight. What a let down.
When does the Joker appear with the gas-filled ballons? What IS this music?
I just keep thinking that if it were up to Democrats like Obama, we would still be in a cold war with the USSR, and Saddam Hussein (can I say that name?) would still be killing his people, destabilizing the Middle East, and Afghanistan would still be under the yoke of the Taliban.
Boy, I miss that fun.
Yes, and it’s pathetic.
Joe Biden is such a doofus. Why are they playing the soundtrack to ‘Remember the Titans’?? Oh never mind, I get it now.
Is she in the Pike position? I think you get extra degree of difficulty points.
maybe they all will catch fire and burn it down.
“He enters Rome like a conquering hero, but what has he conquered?”
Those fireworks are carbon neutral, right?
My husband is humming to this crap music, gag me with a spoon.
I love “Remember the Titans”, but it’s much more realistic than this show.
Wow, this music is cheesy, melodramatic. It is like watching the end of some tear-jerker movie.
I missed the
emperorsdemi-godcommunity aggitators entrance how did he enter the presence of the peasants?Did anyone stand at the gates of the stadium and see ow many people entering were wearing Pumas? Might be an interesting exrcise…..
Are they going to ask people to come forward and dedicate their lives to The One when this ends?
The delegates are still recovering… uh huh.
These tactics… the fireworks, the paper, everything… the show… it’s all so Orwellian
Somebody make me fill good and buy something from my web site http://www.Sanctifystore.com
Fireworks courtesy of Bill Ayers…..
Hmmm, so now after watching this emotional spectacle, I now go back to my earlier comments on a related thread. Shall we count the ways this is similar to Triumph Des Willens?
Go Juan Williams! He said the speech sounded like a laundry list. Ouch.
Fireworks courtesy of Bill Ayers…..
Good one, Ha
I think I have to agree. It is McCain’s “turn,” and Bobby Jindal really is everything the Democrats are trying to make us believe Obama is.
I can hardly wait.
No, but they will request everyone donate their debit cards.
Juan Williams is not impressed with the speech.
This is good.
Bill Kristol liked the speech.
Let’s trade these two men.
The speech had no substance.
Respectfully,
eric aka the Tygrrrr Express
Yes, they’ve been used before…
Bill Kristol is a secret lover of Obamas
KRISTOL!!! Juan Williams got it right! I’m in bizarro-land tonight.
Williams has been surprising me with some of his assessments as of late. It speaks well of his objectivity and the fact that he isn’t falling for the Obama BS.
I don’t think Bill was watching the same speech Juan and I were …
I’ve often wondered why Bill Kristol drank the Dem’s kool-aid.
Finally, some honesty about the same old economy demogoguery!!!! Thank you!
