He cometh; the money tree shaketh

The serfs are restive. Bruce Springsteen blaring on the speakers will mollify them only so much. On with it! The prepared text that The One will read from his teleprompters is here.
9:49pm Eastern. They are seriously playing “Power to the People.”
10:06pm Eastern. The bio video is playing now. I’m watching on TV along with many blogger friends downtown here in Denver. Obama is shown bragging: “I am my sister’s keeper.” But not, blogger Jim Hoft cracks, his brothers’ keeper.
If you’re playing drinking games, take a drink every time the cameras cut away to crowd members crying.
First snort: Obama talking about accepting the nomination with “great humility.”
Second snort: Obama rescues his grandmother from under the bus.
Third snort: He’s talking about treating others with “dignity and respect.” Tell it to Stanley Kurtz.
Fourth snort: The promise of America: Safer toys!
Fifth snort: He said it again: He is his brother’s and sister’s keeper.
Yawn: Big Nanny promises, same old Democrat laundry list. Equal pay for equal work.
Sixth snort: Obama says he’s ready to debate McCain, after backing out of debates he apparently wasn’t ready to have yet.
Seventh snort: The One promises to do it all…
I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. I will rebuild our military to meet future conflicts. But I will also renew the tough, direct diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and curb Russian aggression. I will build new partnerships to defeat the threats of the 21st century: terrorism and nuclear proliferation; poverty and genocide; climate change and disease. And I will restore our moral standing, so that America is once again that last, best hope for all who are called to the cause of freedom, who long for lives of peace, and who yearn for a better future.
Not just a snort. A profanity-inducer: “…what I will not do is suggest that the Senator takes his positions for political purposes. Because one of the things that we have to change in our politics is the idea that people cannot disagree without challenging each other’s character and patriotism.”
Says the man leading the smear campaign against GOP donors and investigative journalist Stanley Kurtz for disagreeing with Obama on his radical ties.
Eighth snort/guffaw/choke: “But I stand before you tonight because all across America something is stirring. What the nay-sayers don’t understand is that this election has never been about me. It’s been about you.”
I’m looking at Obama’s flag lapel pin. Wonder how many stars are on it?
Fireworks. And a diversity prayer.

Meantime, my email box is filling up with Obama campaign donation solicitations.
Talk about milking it:
michelle —
When Barack takes the stage tonight, he’ll look out at delegates from every corner of the country and tens of thousands of ordinary people who are here to be part of this historic moment.
But in the very first row he’ll see a group of people who are there because they took ownership of the political process. Some gave just five dollars.
They’re folks just like you, and they represent more than two million Americans who own a piece of this campaign. Our success would not have been possible without so many people answering the call by giving whatever they can afford.
On this final day before Barack formally accepts the Democratic nomination, please celebrate the moment and lay the foundation for our victory in November by making a donation of $25 or more now:
https://donate.barackobama.com/frontrow
Barack is ready. The crowd filling this stadium at this very moment is ready. And America is ready for the change we need.
It’s within your grasp to make that happen.
Thank you,
David
David Plouffe
Campaign Manager
Obama for AmericaP.S. — Be sure to tune in to watch Barack accept the Democratic nomination tonight.
And another from MoveOn:
Hi,
I’m writing you from my phone at Denver’s Mile High Stadium. This place is buzzing! Obama will take the stage in a few hours. But here’s what’s just as exciting: All across the country, people are kicking in to fund our new program to register the Obama generation—I just heard we’ve raised $253,461 already today!
Check out the video I sent this morning about our huge new campaign:
https://pol.moveon.org/donate/voterregvideo.html?id=13632-4503129-RRtaCVx&t=1
You can feel it in the air here—so much energy for Obama! If we harness it, we can turn this whole country around.
Our goal is to register half a million young voters in swing states. We’re working with a terrific new group called Progressive Future. But we still need to fund this campaign. Please help!
Thank you!
From Denver,
–Eli
P.S. I mentioned Progressive Future, a great new group that promotes progressive values through grassroots action. They’re our partners in this—we couldn’t do it alone. Read about them here: http://www.progressivefuture.org

Finally, some honesty about the same old economy demogoguery!!!! Thank you!
Williams must be a big Clinton supporter. That is all I can figure. That, or he supports the black power structure – Jackson, F-i-kahn, Sharpton…
Did I miss the part when he said…….. “open up your hearts & pocketbooks??”
Try gagging him with a spoon, or hit his “reset button” really hard.
Kristol doesn’t want to be labeled as a racist, I guess. I swear he is in love with Barakie
Juan Williams was always been a Hillary fan – he’s ever denied it. However, I watched him the other night get all teary eyed when his fellow black man had gotten the nomination.
Juan Williams was always been a Hillary fan – he’s ever denied it. However, I watched him the other night get all teary eyed when his fellow black man had gotten the nomination.
Bill Kristol thought it was a good speech, lame.
Nina Easton lays the smack down on Bill Kristol, blasts the speech. You go girl!
Fred Barnes – the fire works were good. LOL. Characterizes it as the “same liberal speech”. “This speech will not build bridges”.
Did Obama walk on water, or was he carried in/out by minions?
I can’t imagine Denver is smelling particularly good after being occupied by all those libs these past few days.
He was hummimg to that crap music and told me that I don’t love Americkkka and im a gun clinger and Bible believer
What a buildup — to nothing.
Dems must feel let down big time.
I watched! I laughed! I chuckle! I keep the doggie bag Close. For one that has done so little to promise so much. I named it Komedy Central days ago – it has not disappointed.
Pugnacious and pandering.
He promised to put something in the hand of everyone there.
All the while picking their pockets…
It won’t build bridges or change the minds of the bitter, gun-toting, church goers either.
haha, if Chris Wallace liked the speech that means it was definitely mediocre.
Mercy4Me,
Make him sleep on the couch
A solid double to left.
Message: it’s on, b****es.
Nice to see him get away from the bobbing and weaving and take a few shots at McCain’s glass jaw.
Started slow and got better. And he avoided the temptation to milk the MLK connection which wins him bonus points. Wish he’d given John Lewis a shout-out, though.
How it must gall you that it was a successful and even inspiring event…maybe next time it will rain and the backdrop will look weirder than it did (after all the hype, I was looking forward to the Lincoln Memorial, but it was rather nondescript in the close-up shot.)
Cheers — off to a hopeful sleep.
Chris Wallace… son of Mike Wallace… I generally like this guy, but he’s drooling over this tripe.
I think I need to go to bed and escape this hell.
Well, I’d better go to sleep. I have to get to work early to earn some $ to save for when Obama taxes me to poverty. Night All.
Sure, except for the rich. But you see, they’re supposed to pay for all this.
After seeing this speech tonight, I think my Bibles and guns are safe.
NOW I remember what this speech reminds me of:
The time I had the misfortune of driving behind a manure truck (there is not enough “behind” to avoid the stench).
Two things I find funny
1) The same company that put together that stage also does stage work for Britney Spears and
2) They were selling fried onions.
Obama, you’re a ditz.
holy cow what a speech. If that doesn’t inspire you, you don’t love America.
While Obama is playing Caesar,
His story of the $100,000,000 shame is coming to light.
Even as he speaks Stanley Kurtz and others are digging deep into the pile of money that leads to corruption and Bill Ayers.
Obama Breathes Rare Ayers
Oh I am sure he took care of the rich Democrats, like himself…
I just gave some money to McCain. we can not let B. Hussein Obama in the WH. If McCain goes on the offense and uses the gold that Obama has just given him, he will get more.
Michelle, I don’t know how you can take it much longer.
Thankfully, for the meanwhile I have no way to watch this circus…
It reminds me that I do love America, and inspires me to vote Republican, even a Republican I am not particularly enamored of.
It is called lipservice, by the way.
What’s wrong with onion rings!? You probably prefer FRENCH Fries, traitor!
Good night everyone..got an early Latin class to attend then teach..it’s been fun.
You’re being sarcastic, right?
Obama is immoral in his attempts to mislead the ignorant. In other words, he’s a swindler of ideas and words. He’s not an honest broker, as a President should be.
This may have been the best fundraiser for McCain yet.
I was hoping Obama would ride a zip line from the top to the podium. Very disappointed.
I watched the first few minutes then came back for the finish. Couldn’t take the torture and wonder if his speech was playing at Gitmo.
The phrase that struck me was his “humility.” Oh, yeah, that was reflected tonight.
Doesn’t every Presidential candidate give his acceptance speech in a football stadium, followed by fireworks?
Gustav is supposed to hit land tomorrow night. Let’s
see Obama go to New Orleans and With A Sweep Of
His Hand, turn Gustav aside, thus saving New Orleans
from this hurricane! I mean, he is the The One, right?
Liveblog: Sermon on the Mile-High Stadium Time!
I don’t know anything about budgets.
Does anyone know how much money the top 5% Americans are making?
We have to raise their tax rate enough so that we can fund the Health insurance coverage for 47 million uninsured Americans, $7000 per each hybrid car being sold in America, funding billions for the development of alternate energy, and retoolling American factories so that jobs stay here, and the biggest expense of all, to reduce the effective tax burden for the 95% of Americans.
By the way, didn’t Clinton get line item veto with the help of Republican congress which was overturned thanks to a Democratic court challenge? So how does Hussain Obama plan to read line by line budget items inserted by the lobbyists and eliminate them as he said in his speech tonight?
Fireworks, balloon drops, confetti, whatever…that’s what Americans do at conventions.
This football stadium griping is the most obvious kind of — well, Freud had a phrase, the second word is “envy.” Just because John McCain couldn’t fill a stadium if he was giving away free whiskey and barbecue, doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing for Barak to throw a party. If you’d ever been involved in one of these things, (and this, for a change, is not a shot at McCain) you’d know that the arrogant thing is to keep the event small and closed.
People had a good time. It looked brilliant on TV. Just because you weren’t invited….
Barack would do all that? How?
Denver smells great right now.
They all sprayed “Eau D’Obama Anus” perfume on before they went to the stadium.
The media buys it in bulk.
Respectfully,
eric aka the Tygrrrr Express
And I wish them all well. But your juvenile statement that we’re jealous because we weren’t invited is typical of your comments I have seen.
Bemused Enjoy it while you can. It’s the last free ride he’ll ever see. Obama will now need to commit to real face to face debates. His true political leanings will be exposed. THE PARTY IS OVER.
Wow, I just switched to MSNBC. This commentator’s lips are quivering.
“If” Obama’s campaign succeeds?! C’mon Chris Matthews, you’re being far too modest!
Olbermann is now blasting the AP’s reporting of Obama’s speech. Apparently they didn’t praise Obama enough. Olbermann tells the guy to find a new line of work… OK Keith.
I watched this tripe and all I can say is God have mercy on us. I actually threw something at my TV tonight when the One said about questioning his patriotism. When One hangs out with & associating with known demestic terrorists, scam artists and down right evil preachers who hate this country. I for one will scream from the roof tops that he is back stabbing unamerican.
Oh gag. Pat Buchanan is praising Obama’s speech as the greatest convention speech EV4R!!!!11!!!1!one!!
I am just so glad this whole theatrical spectacle is over so we can finally get down to real campaigning. Barack Obama’s speech was so over the top, I laughed out loud during parts of it. How can anyone be taken in by those ridiculous promises? Seriously, I was waiting for him to promise eternal life to all who vote for him.
So do we have to start calling him God now, or does that happen later?
Talk about losing my religion!
Yahoo’s headline for Obama “I’ll lower taxes”. Seriously, that’s what they got out of the speach?
Never mind, already changed.
Sorry, the headline already changed.
Did I hear him say he was for clean coal, nuclear, and drilling. The next thing you know he’ll be supporting the military.
Obama in a live debate without knowing the questions beforehand or not being spoon fed softballs from CNN? That I would like to see!
How long did Barry do actual work in the Senate? Something like 130 days he spent doing the people of Illinos bidding and getting paid for it.. In the speech he has the gall to lecture companies about giving workers more sick time ect.
COME ON FOLKS. I wouldn’t want to go into battle with this group tonight. Its only the beginning. The campaign starts tomorrow.
New ideas? I have heard those new Democrat plans repeated every election cycle for 40 years! Better schools (they’ve controlled the schools), job security (high taxes and regulations send our jobs overseas), protect SSI (they’ve raided those funds repeatedly to pay for other social programs), health care for all (they controlled congress from 1932 on and wouldn’t pass UHC), blah, blah, blah…
The conservative pundits will tear his assertions apart.
The liberal re-write of history continues.
Sounds like you are having fun Michelle….
Being that this was the 45th anniversary of MLKs “I had a dream speech”…and there were many people there that were involved in the Civil Right’s movement…the tears were understandable to me…
So did you get plastered?…hope you have a designated driver with you…be safe….
All that was missing was a rousing rendition of “Deutchland Uber Alles”.
Sorry, I meant 40th anniversary…
Sure, look here.
The top 5% is $153,542 and up AGI. That 5% pays 60.14% of the federal income taxes.
So, think about it. Federal spending is about to go WAY up. Taxes on the lower 95% might go down. That means the upper 5% (who, at $153,000 AGI and up, are well-to-do, but not terribly rich) are about to go completely bonkers.
I doubt too many people who create jobs are outside of that top 5%. I see some serious economic problems coming out of this.
When was any Gay or Lesbian couple been denied seeing the other in a hospital? Oh! He is not going to raise taxes. This whole campaign and tonights speech is BS, it’s right out of the Saul Alinsky play book “Rules for Radicals”. Oh good old Saul was a Community Organizer too. As “The Great” Mark Levin says ” This guy Obama “Milhouse” Obama is a Marxist. That’s with a capital M.
If you’re an academic you know their arguments are week.
If your an economist, their system has failed everywhere it’s been tried.
If you’re religious you know God is on your side.
If you’re a constitutionalist they have weak foundations.
All they have is emotions.
Just remember, if it ever got really, really, really bad, we’re all a better shot than that sorry lot you saw tonight. /sarc
It would have been better if Barry Obama had ridden onto his Greek faux whatevah on the ass of a donkey instead of the wings of hope and promise and trash the Republicans.
The humble little donkey would have reflected humility.
A week of hype,a backdrop of the Lincoln Memorial or something pompous, masses of people waving flags and smoking dope (some sitting so high they probably had no idea what was said—but they were high, so who cares?),paper confetti and streamers (which I hope were biodegradable and will not end up in a landfill), fireworks that also litter and leave carbon footprints and pollution, and soundtracks of dramatic music. This is setting them up for…what, exactly are they going to change? I forgot.
DUH! I meant to Say Barak “Milhouse” Obama
It happens more often than you think. With HIPAA, hospitals have become increasingly strict when it comes to visitors and information releases. If a family member tells the hospital staff that only family members are allowed to visit, they have to abide by that to the exclusion of that patient’s spouse/partner.
He also pledged to crack down on employers who hire illegals instead of Americans. A modest start. Let’s see how McCain answers him on that.
Anyone remember in the movie “The Lawnmower Man” when the main character, Job, said he’d become pure energy and you would know he was ubiquitously present by having everyone’s phone ring simltaneously?
Did that happen tonight with the chosen one?
On how much Obama’s raising the personal income tax plan would cost us, someone here said:
How idiotic!
Of course, I’ve also heard that number as $250,000/yr., but no matter…what a delightfully Marxist idea to punish success and reward failure. From where will the incentive come to succeed? From where will the continued revenues come when success is punished, causing people to give up for lack of profit? The government only has the money that it
taxesconfiscates from it’s citizenry…and those income-producing “cash cows,” once milked dry, will be much harder to replace in a dumbed-down, hand-out seeking society. That’s the biggest problem with suckers who follow the Left…they fall for all the “feel good” crap but have or use no logic or common sense to wade through to the economic facts.
It’s my business how little or how much money I make.
I didn’t get to see the speech *sobs*. Did THE ONE really descend from the heavens as was promised?
Not according to the Left, Family Man.
i’m one of those people trying to figure out how i will sustain my business if he [shudder] gets elected and raises capital gains and income taxes. the outcomes are all very bad for my employees, my vendors, my family…
how do they not get it??? it truly baffles and saddens me.
John McCain = War Hero and Distinguished Senator
Barack Obama = Democratic Talking Points and Elitist Attitude
Let him eat cake
I will vote for War Hero
Goodnight.
Drinking that much could lead to alcohol poisoning.
Mookie – You’re correct, but there is a legal document that can be filled out by gay *cough* couples *cough* and then if ever either are hospitalized, they can indeed see them.
Thank you one and all for the entertaining and very funny synopsis.
Instead of watching b. Hussein and the rest, I watched ‘The Woman in the Window’ and then caught up in 5 minutes. Bet this thread was better than the real thing! And I give the movie 5 stars.
Thanks to all of you clever and patriotic folks for giving me something encouraging to read while the very boring debacle played out on every cable news channel.
James Dobson prayed for rain to ruin Obama’s speech and instead it was clear skies…a hurricance will prob cancel the rnc convention….hmmm makes you wonder which side God is really on…
Guess What? God doesn’t think the way we do. He’s sorta bigger than all of us in that regard. Funny huh? How our itty bitty brains view things but really can’t even begin to comprehend Him. That doesn’t make you wrong and Dobson right, or vise versa – it just says you both try to fit God in your box.
I don’t think God really takes sides. It’s silly, sort of like the NASCAR drivers that always say “I want to thank God for my victory today”, like God cares who wins a NASCAR race. Same vein…I don’t think God is going to try to micro-manage what we do. It’s up to us, so the idea that God is on a particular “side” is rather silly to me.
Not all states recognize those documents. Some states that have banned civil unions do not.
Yes, HE’S going to take the whole federal budget and, line by line, remove programs that waste money.
Wow. He’s a freakin’ idiot, without a clue about the separation of the executive and legislative branches. Scary, scary stuff.
That’s meaningless if there is no such thing as an illegal alien due to amnesty.
Yawn. Is he done yet? Now let’s defeat this Marxist!!!
Is this speech all he could muster? He is the new politics yet I couldn’t help but see how he attacked McCain more and then gave very generalized ideas about his “hopes” for our tax dollars.
The speech felt like a summary of tired, old liberal dogma that I’ve heard for the past 30 years. It’s deja vu all over again, folks. World class education system so that “some” kids don’t miss the opportunity of a “fine” public school education. Snicker. Government funded healthcare premiums. Snicker. Cut taxes for 95% of Americans (even though he raised taxes for Americans earning 42K or more). Snicker. No more of those tax breaks for those bad corporations. Snicker. Better moral standing in the world. Snicker. Retreat from Iraq “responsibly.” Snicker. Hunker down in Afganistan and get serious about retrieving Osama from his cave. Snicker.
All in all, it was a snicker fest. I’m not so sure that independent voters got a real feel for the “detail” (to come later) in this speech. McCain can top this. He doesn’t need the superficials that Obummer does. Give a speech that’s passionate, realistic, idea-oriented (throw out the amnesty), and reply to Obummer content and that will keep Obummer on his toes.
I am the you you have been waiting for.
And now, if you’ll open your hymnal let us sing “Bringing in the Sheeple”.
Watched the speech with my husband who doesn’t have much interest in politics and doesn’t follow it like myself. He said it best after “THE ONE” gave his speech “How the hell is this guy going to do all of this?” I couldn’t have said it better! “THE ONE” is supposed to fix everything in our lives.
The same old liberal laundry list. The whole thing was over the top and he still did not answer his inexperience issues. Just hope, change, hope, change. Thank god the DNC convention is over!!
I didn’t see it, only read the speech–thank God!–as I would have wanted to jump out of my apartment window. “The One” needs to read the Constitution and learn that a lot of things are NOT the federal government’s job. He should also realize, but he and his liberal ilk never will, that the military are for defending the United States, not for invoking in speeches while undermining and stabbing in the back. I have never been more worried about the future of our country than after reading this speech.
The picture reminds me of “All hail Caesar”. Just beware of the ides of March, Obama. A man with an ego like his, would yearn to be an emperor/dictator, but Pelosi, Reid and their bunch will dictate what he will do and not do, if he occupies the White House.
ummm have you lived the last 8 years?
Yes.
But President Bush didn’t run as a communist in all but word.
And before you ask, I am in the Reserves, have gone to the Middle East, and expect to do so again.
Did anyone watch Chris Matthews’ reaction to the BIG O’s speech?
I’d almost swear that while having an intimate moment with his wife he has to fantasize about Obama.
Thanks for the report Michelle. I couldn’t stand to watch the Obamapalosa festival myself. Just from watching the glazed eyes on those that worship “The One” this morning on Fox & Friends was bad enough. The Marxist has spoken and continues to show what a clear and present danger his naive and inept leadership will be to Western Civilization.
Mitt is NOT the VP choice!!!!
The prediction is Palin from Alaska!!!!!
