McCain camp wants your attention

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 28, 2008 12:00 PM

Update: Yawn.

So, Team McCain is trying to steal some of Barackopolis’s buzz tonight with an EXCITING AND UNPRECEDENTED NEW AD! I guess I’m supposed to be swooning about this e-mail just in from the McCain camp, but with the capitulationist/McCain-ized GOP platform still burning my eyes and the Obama thug tactics on my front burner, this is just not putting a thrill up my leg. How about yours?

Ho-hum:

All: Please be on the lookout for an exciting and unprecedented new McCain ad we’ll release later today. Please see Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker talk about it this morning on “Morning Joe”:

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Apparently the McCain campaign has an ad rolling out tonight. What’s it about?

JILL HAZELBAKER: Well, Mika, this is a historic ad. I think this is the first of its kind. Senator McCain is going to speak direct to camera to Barack Obama. I’m not going to give away many more details than that. But suffice to say it’s going to be a very exciting ad, and I think it’s going to get a lot of attention.

BRZEZINSKI: Jill, you’ve got to give us more on this ad. He’s speaking directly to camera, John McCain is to Barack Obama. If you say there’s news here, what’s the news?

HAZELBAKER: Well, I’m going to keep a lid on it. But I think it’s newsworthy to note that Senator McCain is going to have an ad that’s going to air in battleground states around the time that Senator Obama is speaking tonight. And he’s going to be talking directly to his opponent. So, I’m going to leave it there, but it’s going be very exciting and a lot of people are going to focus on it.

Eh.

The McCain people are actually doing quite well with their ads and they (the ads) appear to be surprisingly effective. The problem is that while they are necessary (however did our ancestors manage without YouTube?), they are hardly sufficient. McCain needs to forge a strong, positive, reasoned campaign that will energize the base, attract independents, and isolate the democrats. It could be done. A president elected in 1980 did it.

[Why are you laughing? What did I say? Am I missing something? Seriously. Huh?]

No, what is truly more frightening is suffering 4 years of McCain (with a Democratic Congress), then, because of his inevitable failings due to having virtually the same platform as the Democrats, the Republicans losing even more seats in the Congress in 2010 and 2012, and losing the White House to Obama (or possibly Clinton). That scares me more than having Obama in the White House for 4 years, which will do nothing but mobilize conservatives in ways we haven’t seen in decades.
My solution: I’m going to use the write-in option and vote on principle (Duncan Hunter seems alright, maybe Fred Thompson.) It’s time for the Republicans to stop assuming we’ll vote for just anybody they throw at us. I’m also going to do what I can to make sure that a conservative gets elected to Congress from my State/district (such as Steve Sauerberg over Dick Durbin.)

    Is Bush running? lol
If he is he gets my vote.

Same here. At least HE would piss off the liberals. Liberals at this point are not too alarmed with McCain and, why should they be?

No, what is truly more frightening is suffering 4 years of McCain (with a Democratic Congress), then, because of his inevitable failings due to having virtually the same platform as the Democrats, the Republicans losing even more seats in the Congress in 2010 and 2012, and losing the White House to Obama (or possibly Clinton). That scares me more than having Obama in the White House for 4 years, which will do nothing but mobilize conservatives in ways we haven’t seen in decades.

Send_Me. You are spot on with I too fear. Kudos.

When did I say I was a fan of W as far as his moderate-liberal policies? He was the LOTE between Gore and Kerry, though.

4 years of Bush Sr., 8 years of (shudder) Clinton, and 8 years of W.

We haven’t had a Conservative standard bearer in office for the last 20 years. It gets a bit old when in election after election, Conservatives have to compromise with moderate choices while the liberal nutjobs get exactly what they want in their candidates.

The recent batch of candidates may have had some more conservative “conservatives”, but our (R) candidate was picked (again) by moderates.

Was Bush also not the “lesser of two evils?” Why then should we continue this cycle of ineptitude by voting for McCain? How do you think we got in this position? It’s because too many people gave up their autonomy as sentient beings who vote with their brains and conscience, not out of convenience.

    Step away from the nomination.

Let the convention nominate a conservative who respects Values Voters, American Energy Independence, and Sessions’ 15 point action plan to restore law and order to America’s broken immigration system.

John, I understand that as the son and grandson of US Admirals, you have an ego-driven need to show your mother that you can be President.

Just for John Ansell: I hope you enjoy your quest in trashing McCain in the pursuit of a pure conservative ticket that will never materialize against Obama.

Some of us have come to the realization that the republican primary is over, and that this is now down to a choice between two men. It’s pretty obvious what you are trying to accomplish here.

In the meantime, this version of operation chaos here is helping to create a echo chamber of “McInsane/McAmnesty/whatever” and you will all be shocked to see that Obama ends up being elected, and will be our president for 4 or 8 years.

But please, don’t let the truth ruin your ‘I’m going to keep posting this, McCrazy!’ fun. See you in a little over two months. Take care.

    Agreed.

And both Hunter and Tancredo cared enough about Values Voters (America’s largest voting block) to show up for the Values Voter Debate.

    Fred didn’t.

    You know why he didn’t?

Because Thompson was one of McCain’s two stalking horses (Giuliani was the other) and all three of them, plus Mitt Romney, gave cover to McCain and themselves by not showing up.

Values Voters can only trust the candidates who showed up for that debate. Pick any two men from that lineup for a P/VP ticket and I’ll be happy. I think the coolest would be Huckabee/Keys.

McCain blew off a Values Voter Debate not once, but twice. The second time was immediately before the Texas primary.

What I see here is some think the “R” behind one candidate’s name make that candidate special.

Honestly – I’m still trying to figure out where McCain’s worldview is all that different than Obama’s.

McCain seems to think it’s ok to kill unborn babies (by even floating the notion of a pro-abort VP he indicates that). Same as Obama.
McCain seems to think open borders are ok. Same as Obama
McCain seems to think there is such a thing as too much profit and any “excess” should go to the government. Same as Obama.
McCain seems to think government is there to “do good” – same as Obama.
McCain seems to dis-regard the constitution as written. To him it seems to be a living breathing document. Same as Obama.
And the list can go on and on.

Do I want Obama – resounding NO. But McCain hasn’t given me much to go on other than he has an R after his name.
